“We own a diner.”

Waitress turned entrepreneur Naomi Walker held her fiancée Dalton Culpepper by his face. Adrenalin pumping, she nearly leaped into his arms out of excitement. With half of the town of Caretaker dining or in line to dine waiting patiently the denizens applauded her good fortune. Everybody loved the sassy redhead but sadly they seemed to like the way the diner was promoting nude waitresses.

It was not just the bubbly bombshell blonde Caprice “CC” Comstock either. Today they were treated to Midnight Amador acting like her old self in order to help wait on tables to keep up with the rush. Her lord, master, Kami, instructed his whore to be of assist until he ran a few errands then returned for her. A risk certainly, she was helpless on her own thanks to the collared anal hook up her ass for posture and delight. Not to mention the drug X-AP347 prowling her body chemistry like a ravenous slut in the shadows. Her hormones were off the charts as people rubbed her hips or pinched her ass. Everyone seemed to love her bling. Of course she was called a hooker. Line and stinker!

Now that Dalton and Olan Kerrick had come back from the bank with the title to the diner and Nick’s money in Olan’s account, things were officially sinking in. All they had to deal with now was the increased business and getting married in Puerto Rico. Oh, and then there was the nude part. Once the joy faded the loving bride and groom made it official. Right in front of everyone Dalton kissed her long and hard to an echo of cheers. Achieved, they even bowed, Naomi with a curtsy. Love was in the lair!

28981-68-03-couple.jpg

“How are you doing Baby?” CC bumped bare hips with Midnight at the server’s counter. “You haven’t lost your God-given talent to be a waitress.”

“This is fun. It feels strange that Kami is allowing me a reminder of what was, when he wishes me to be nothing.”

“Did you ever think maybe it’s you that want to be nothing?”

28981-68-04-cc-ai.jpg 28981-68-05-server.jpg

“I AM nothing! I serve Kami and now I serve these customers for Kami. In my mind I’ve tried very hard to escape who I was in order to fulfill my obligation to Kami and my sis ... ter.” This was just now fully sinking in that Lillian Dawn Bearpaw was her half-sister, sharing the same father.

Her mother Irene, lost to her new persona of Zera had let the cat out of the bag. A secret that Irene had kept for nineteen years. An affair with Samuel Bearpaw behind Esteban’s back was difficult at first. Not that Midnight didn’t adore Lillian, she had no choice but to love her as Kami ordered. Incest now! Yet, Midnight would never fail her master. Or herself! To be cast away by Nick now would end her life. Long live the Kami!

“Nick has you referring to Dawn as your sister?”

“Caprice? Mother just admitted to us that we are biological sisters. Well, my former mother, she disowned me.”

“Say what? Biological? Are you telling me Este isn’t your daddy?”

“Correct! Samuel Bearpaw is my true father.”

“Hold up! Irene is sick Midnight. Este beating her and leaving her to die had to have done something to her brain. Nick will get her help.”

“Moth ... Zera engaged in sex with Opal last night. She seems so different, almost invincible. Brutal in some ways.”

“Could be that drug Tigress.”

“Yes! Kami did make Opal drink a vial of something.”

“Baby? I hate to tell you this but I’m thinking Nick doses you and Bearpaw too. I had that shit in my system, so did Dolan. That stuff is predatorial. Trust me, it was hell not humping a bed post. I can tell by your reactions to touch that you’re on something.”

“I feel fine. Just extremely horny. Which I am grateful for. If Kami insists, I consume it, I will. I trust my master to keep me healthy.” Even she had sensed the reality behind her friends words. Yes, in her soul she knew. Never to be admitted unless Kami questioned her, of course.

“Oddly enough, I do too. He might come on as tough, but I see way too often his good side. This diner for one, flying Naomi and Dalton to Puerto Rico to get married. Olan and Lyn too.”

“You and Dolan?”

“Oh no! I’m not wearing no flashy diamond. I don’t mind shacking up but I don’t need any piece of paper with our signatures on it. Besides, no way do I want to be Ali’s stepmom and knowing she’s my ex-boyfriend’s girl. Too close to home!”

“Feed the customers already!” Naomi swept in between the ladies. “Stop jabbering! And that does not mean climb on a table and let them eat you out.”

“Nude waitressing is going over well, I think. Nick dealing with the FDA to keep you open is a plus.”

“Scary plus! That means he’s buying their ignorance. I don’t know if I want to feel illegal about it all.” She helped the girls haul plates of food, chatting in transit. “Lord, I hope we can keep up.”

“I’ll go in and help the kitchen.” Dalton couldn’t handle standing around. Besides, it was hard to love his bride and look at two naked beauties. Nope! Be productive! Heading into the kitchen Dalton conferred with Rupert and Dreyfus as to how best to help. They more than welcomed another cook and dishwasher.

Out back, former owner Olan Kerrick and waitress Lynette Brewster cuddled, staring out at the pristine Atlantic view. Now fiancées and free of the stress this diner was causing they discussed the future. “What do you think of Nick’s offer in Puerto Rico? I’ve never been out of South Carolina before. It sounds fun and relaxing, but it might feel claustrophobic with water all around us. I can’t even swim Olan.”

28981-68-06-big.jpg

“It is a lot to think about. Ronnie won’t like the idea.”

“My son has no choice. They go where I go. Honestly, it might do him good to start fresh somewhere and stop getting into trouble.”

“How do you think he’s going to cope with me as his new dad?”

“They both like you. Jacob even teases me that I should marry you. He’s going to be thrilled. Ron is just petty. If it doesn’t benefit him then he’s against it. You Sir, are a millionaire now. That alone will have him pushing me into marriage.”

“Sounds like this place is pretty isolated. Ron might rebel if he has no friends or anything. Then there’s Jacob going to school. I mean I suppose we can home school him. Unless you want to consider involving their dad. He might have a say in them moving that far away.”

“Shit! I never thought of that. Yeah, Jimmy might put his foot down on Jacob going. Ron is adult enough and too much trouble for Jim to care.”

“Jim struggles keeping up child support. I could offer to take that responsibility over until Jacob is of age.”

“That’s not your responsibility Olan. It’s sweet of you, but I don’t want Jimmy to not do his part.”

“I say we three sit down and talk it out. Jim has a hard time getting work these days. He might bite. Worst case, let him take care of Ron and let me cover Jacob.”

“I’ll call him tonight and ask him to pay a visit.” As if some omen Olan’s phone rang in his pocket. Pulling it from his shirt he eyed the caller as unknown at first then the words changed to Saint Nick. Frowning over it he answered the call.

“Checking up on the deal?”

“No! I’m well-aware my money cleared the bank. Put aside your worries for now Kerrick. I need your help.”

“So, I’m at your beckon call now.”

“Not at all. I’m going to be taking Midnight to Diamonds on the Water jeweler’s today. I have a couple more things to do first. Now that the diner is Naomi’s to deal with, you’re freed up to get some fresh air. Why don’t you meet me at the jewelry store and pick out a worthy ring for the new bride.” That piqued the big man’s curiosity.

“Want me to bring Midnight?”

“I’ll pick her up in about an hour. Tell your blushing bride she needs to stick around there for now and help get through the madhouse.”

“Okay! I’ll follow you then.”

“Words to live by Kerrick.” Nick chuckled then hung up. Olan rolled his eyes. A sudden impression that he had just sold his soul had him tense.

“What did he want?”

“Asked me to join him on an errand here in an hour or so. He wants you to stick around and help here. Which begs to ask, are you wanting to quit now or later?”

“I’ll stick by Naomi until the wedding. She is my bestie!”

“Okay! Then haul your big, sweet beautiful booty shaker back to work. Smoke break is over.” A gentle shoulder bump, Olan kissed her forehead. “Move it, Mrs. Kerrick.”

“This is all so crazy! I love you Olan.”

“Love you too.” One last lip smack later she wiggled her way back to work. Olan Kerrick sat there a while longer enjoying the ocean breeze. “Free at last! Puerto Rico, eh? Sounds wonderful!” Until he looked down at his lap. “Sweet Jesus! I can’t be naked in front of dozens of people. I have a small dick. Dammit!”

The stress was back.

Nick Sanchez pulled Opal Savage’s van Black Box up to his borrowed beach house. Sitting there he made another phone call but put it on speaker to relax. “Up and at it, Gullivant.” His call was directed to a responding William Gullivant. By his weary tone Nick knew the boy had been up late. “How’s Veronica?”

28981-68-07-mood.jpg

“Freaked out! She’s in the shower right now. Who knew Irene Amador had it in her to lock V in a shed and leave her. If I didn’t like Irene and know what she’s been through I’d suggest V sue her. Do the Cooper’s know?”

“Not that I’m aware of. Let them enjoy their vacation. V walked out of this without a scratch just let it go. I’ll handle Irene.”

“Where is she now?”

“Still locked up. She’s safer there for now. Opal is with her.”

“That’s comforting!”

“Once Opal gets her head on straight, she’s capable of dealing with her protege.”

“Protege? Say what?”

“Opal mentioned Irene wants to work out with her. Savage owes me huge, so she won’t bitch too heavily. As to why I’m calling, I’m going to pick you up shortly. I need someone to drive Black Box here back to the jail after I grab the Raptor from Harbinger Shoals.”

“I’ll get dressed. Am I babysitting Midnight today?”

“Maybe later tonight. I’ll decide on that when it gets here.”

“Nick? I need advice.”

“Isn’t that what your dad is for?”

“Yeah, but this concerns the lifestyle.”

“I’m listening!” Nick left the van and walked to the front door of the beach house belonging to his old war buddy Marcus Jericho. The door unlocking for him thanks to his all-seeing spy Dyson he entered as Will continued.

“I met a girl last night; her name is Nova. Dad and I went out for drinks before the whole V thing. She’s Arabic and drop dead gorgeous. I kind of like her Nick. But I own V ... well, we’re sorting that out.”

“If you ever expect to be a master you do what you want without concern how others feel. Midnight is waiting tables at Coastal Waiters right this second wearing her anal hook. CC is waiting tables naked. Not one person complained over either of them or my actions. Would I care what any of them thought of me? Not one bit!”

“Nice! So, you’re telling me to man up and take what I want. If V objects dump her?”

“You love V. Either she embraces your leadership, or she can do the dumping. My gut says she’s not going anywhere. So, own up, own them. Just get ready, leave V at home.”

“On it!”

Nick ended the call and went to his bedroom. Dropping to his knees he dug under the bed for his attaché cases holding supplies like toys to use on his whores, or the drugs his buddy Eugene Holly concocted with precision results. Knowing his plan for Midnight he located a red vial with a label saying H347. He had yet to use this drug on anyone other than himself but knew it to work. Small wounds it was better than any band-aid and performed favorably to skin cells in healing wounds at a remarkable rate. H347 meant HEAL! Only one vial required he locked the case back up and slid it away.

On the way out the door Nick received a text from Crimson Merrick. Reading it as he got back inside Black Box as the girl kept him abreast. “Dropped Dawn at the Waterfall home. Newton and the elders are convening about the Historical Society. Dawn asked me to give her two hours to deal with family. Her parents are coming over to Rayna’s here in a bit. Need anything else or can I go on break?”

“Enjoy!” Was his sole reply. Starting up Black Box he had an intriguing thought. Shutting the vehicle off in a single breath he ran back into the beach house to a closet. “Let’s be a bit classier than those old chains I found in the barn.” Shackles made of chromed alloy were removed from a large leatherbound box.

“Magnetic bonds with worship rings.” He held them in front of his face for inspection. “Jewelry works well with bands.” Procuring a second set he nodded. “Wrists and ankles!” A whole arsenal of such clamps in his stockroom Nick considered more for Bearpaw but that could wait until she returned from Charleston. His thoughts swirling, he had to grin. Tossing the manacles on his bed he began texting.

On the REZ at the Civic Center the board of Elders were just ending a quick judgment meeting. Nodin Merrick checked his phone to see who might be messaging him. “Sanchez?” Excusing himself Nodin stepped outside into the parking lot and called Nick back. “I don’t feel like texting. Why are you bothering me?”

28981-68-08-nodin.jpg

“Go home, grab your pretty little maid and bring her into Caretaker.”

“And why would I do that?”

“It’s high time you collared Sasha, isn’t it?”

“I would have gotten around to it. While you and I have found common ground I am still not your best friend.”

“Business partners have one another’s backs, Merrick. That club is on the horizon, more work for the Santee. Humor me and be at Diamonds on the Water in an hour. Bring your whore. And I don’t mean your daughter Mikaela. One hour!” Hanging up on the last word was so much fun. Nick knew he had Merrick intrigued! Nick just carried the entire trunk out to the van. Bling! Bling!

Dialing home Nodin waited on his maid Sasha Summerhill to answer.

“Early lunch, Sir?”

“Remove your apron and be by the front gate in ten minutes. It is such a nice day; we are going for a ride.”

“Yes, Master!”

“Wear the butt plug. Nothing more!” It was Nodin’s turn to have the last word.

Sasha hurried to put away her cleaning supplies then found her jeweled butt plug, forcing it inside her anus. Accomplished, the Santee cutie raced to the front gate of Merrick Manor. On her knees in the grass seemed appropriate!

28981-68-09-sasha.jpg

The master’s daughter Crimson returning home saw her old classmate and shook her head. It looked like she would need to make her own sandwich. A toot of her Jag’s car horn, Crimson left Sasha to her giggles. Unreal!

“Garden gnomes! I swear!”

T-Mobile! Uptown Caretaker, South Carolina!

“Finally, my own phone again.”

Hacker Jasmine Riviera was feeling life again. The stress of not being hunted down any longer was rehabilitating. “Not that I have anyone but Crimson and Nick to call. Maybe Opal when she’s nice. A few days ago, I was on the run but now I’ve been welcomed into the family. Two families! Crazy! Okay, I got that old guy a new phone, car charger, set him up with Spotify on his cell, bought him and his cat some groceries, filled Crimson’s car up with gas, all on Shadow’s credit card. Go me! Let’s just hope that when I take this stuff to him, he doesn’t have a gun. He might not be too happy to see me until he hears my story.”

Climbing into her borrowed car Jasmine settled in, seatbelt attached. Once the engine was on the stereo came to life with the worst singing voice ever.

“Ugggh! You again?”

“Hey! I can cancel that credit card, Missy!” Eloise Dyson spoke out after her rendition of Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin ended. “Get a move on, Jazzy, Esteban Amador’s car is on its way home via tow truck. It might get there before you do.”

“On my way now! I hope he doesn’t get grumpy; I feel bad enough as it is.”

“I’ve got your backside. We hacks have to stick together. I did something in your honor, but you have to figure it out on your own. Let’s just see how observant you are.”

“Okay! My honor? Do I deserve it?”

“You didn’t run after we had you dump Nick’s moolah back into his bank. The way I see it kid, you’re darn lucky. If one wrong person caught wind of your snooping, Nick might not have been able to rescue you. You’re a heck of a lot safer staying here than running astray. Trust us on that.”

“I do. I’m not leaving, Crimson. Even when she starts school in the fall. Has she left town yet?”

“Eating a turkey club in her kitchen. She’s waiting on Bearpaw to call saying she’s ready.”

“Oh, ok! Let me call her real fast and give her my new number.”

“I already fired her the digits. Just get this salvage mission over with.”

“Oh! I got some cash out on the card so that Mister Amador can get gas, I left it on fumes when it broke down.”

“I had it filled up, oil change, tires aired, even new wiper blades. Give him cash for air fresheners.”

“You’re slipping!”

“Says you! We found your sweet ass, didn’t we?”

“True! Leaving T-Mobile now. Can I have my music back?” Spotify activating over a Bluetooth for her, Dyson set her up with a rocking song called Tennessee Cocaine by the band Wildstreet. “Wow! Great taste in music, Shadow.” Until Dyson sang along with it. They laughed together all the way out to Esteban Amador’s tortured property. Pulling down the dirt road she cringed with deep chills at the area of tall weeds where Veronica Redmane and Irene Amador had found that necklace. Spooky shit! For some reason this plot of land felt like a graveyard.

“You were right! The tow truck did get here before me. Maybe this will calm him down.”

“Tell Este that Nick called his job to make certain he didn’t lose it. Well, Nick had me call in for him. A new forklift covered Este for a week to get his shit together.”

“Nick is awful generous. Yet, he wouldn’t let me buy Mister Amador a new car.”

“The man is paying for his sins. Nicky is only trying to get the guy to man up to his mistakes. He won’t know the forklift saved his job I swore his boss to secrecy.”

“Is this guy really that bad?”

“Burnt his house to the ground and left Irene unconscious in it. He was drunk out of his mind and didn’t know until he was arrested. He’s been trying to mend fences but the heartache isn’t over. There’s something coming he should hear from those involved with it, so, I’m not filling you in on anything further. Do your good deed and apologize, then head back to the Rez. I’ll keep in touch with you.”

“Ok cool! Wish me luck.”

“Make your own, Cyber.” Pulling off the side of the dirt road while Esteban stood in his yard watching the tow truck driver lowering his Buick Regal, Jasmine left the car. Waving at him he immediately recognized her and pointed.

28981-68-11-esteban.jpg

“It was ye!” He called out.

“Totally me! Slap me down if you have to. I at least returned your car good as new. Full gas tank, new wipers, oil change, the works.”

28981-68-12-jazz.jpg

“Ye had no right stealin’ me car and me phone. I lost me job because of you.”

“Actually, you didn’t! My friend took care of that too. You have a week off paid vacation on us.” She produced five hundred dollars in cash from her pocket and wagged it at him. That calmed his temperament. “Brand new phone too. I hooked you up. I even put my number in the contact list if you ever need a friend.”

“Who be ye?” He still had no idea.

“I’m Jasmine! Listen, I am so sorry I did what I did. I was on the run from what I thought were really bad people. Come to find out they’re actually really nice.”

“Pardon me!” The tow truck driver approached with a clipboard. “I just need a signature and I’ll be out of your hair.” Este turned and claimed the paperwork. Signing it he received a copy of not just the towing, but the itemized list of things done to his car.

“Car emblem?” He squinted!

“Yeah! For some reason a junkyard brought us an emblem from an old Riviera and had us replace the Regal. We left the Regal mount in your backseat. No clue as to why they made that request, but it’s all paid for.” Hearing this Jasmine busted up laughing.

“Oh, my God! You crazy bitch.” Dyson heard that! “I’m to blame for that too, Mister Amador. My last name is Riviera. I think my friends did that as a reminder of what I did.”

“On that note. I’m out. Have a good day folks.” The driver got into his truck and drove off. Once out of the way Este sized Jasmine up.

“I’d invite ye in but my home be out of sorts.”

“I heard about your misfortune. At least your wife survived.”

“Aye! Thank the Lord above for that.”

“Amen! I also brought you some groceries and a few things to make your life better. Cat food too.”

“Gilligan will be happy to hear that. His luck finding field mice to feast on has been lacking.”

“I bet! Come with me let’s get this stuff unloaded. If you need anything and if I’m allowed to help just shoot me a text, I’ll bring it to you.”

“If ye be allowed to. Wait! Are ye associated to that Sanchez fella who brainwashed me daughter Midnight?”

“I work for him now. He’s just letting me make things up to you for my stupidity.”

“So, ye bow to him like me daughter?”

“Oh, no! I just run errands for him.” Safer than saying his hacker. “He told me you were trying to stop drinking. Good for you!”

“Nay a drop in over a week. Canae, say I don’t miss it.”

“I heard the Sheriff mention Alcoholics Anonymous. If you need a sponsor let me know. I’d be happy to go with you.”

“Ye used to be an alcoholic?”

“Not really! But after what I did to you, I’m doing my best to help. Any time you need to talk I’ll be there for you.”

“That be kind of ye.”

“Do you always talk like a pirate?”

“I be me.”

“Now you sound like, Popeye.” She chuckled opening the car trunk. “Goodies! Can food non-perishables with pop tops for easy opening. I even bought clean dishes and silverware from an antique store uptown. Dish soap! Bar soap! Shampoo!”

“If only I had running water. I live by water bottle since me house went up.” Staring at the house Jasmine noticed a porcelain claw tub still standing in the rubble.

“You should clear a path to that tub. I’m only guessing, but let’s go try something. Here! Grab a box of can goods, I’ll go do it.” She left him to haul and made her way through the skeletal remains of what was left of the house. Tossing what she could out of the way she reached the tub. Removing ceiling debris from it she noticed that the stainless-steel valves hadn’t melted away, just the plastic outer shell.

Examining the water line leading into it she puckered. With a bit of strain, she turned the valve and miraculously water flowed. “Holy crap! Did nobody bother to check on this? You’re slipping Nick.” Was he? Taking her phone out she dialed the security code to reach Dyson. “Hey, Shadow? Este has running water still. How come nobody told him that.”

“Is the man helpless? Don’t answer that. Nick had me pay his water bill up three months. He would have figured it out on his own. We simply supplied him with drinking water until he got nosey. Nice catch, Detective Riviera!”

“I try! This will be a blessing.”

“Port-a-potty will have to suffice.”

“Right! Hey, remind me to discuss something I recently found with you later.”

“There at Casa Amador?”

“No! At the Merrick home. I know you guys suspended watching Nodin.”

“All ears when you’re ready.”

“I’ll call you later. With Crimson leaving town it’s kind of spooky staying there without her.”

“I get it. I’ll tell you a bedtime story.”

“Thanks, Mommy.”

“I was never able to have kids of my own. Call me mom all you want. Our occupations run in the family now.”

“True! I’ll talk to you later mom.”

“Bye, Babycakes!”

Chuckling Jasmine turned to Esteban. “Hey, Mister Amador! Guess what? You have running water.” Eyes bulging, he sat his load of cat food in the grass and sprinted amid the clustered debris.

“It be a miracle.” He was so happy he even hugged Jasmine from the side. “You be me good luck charm.”

“Awww! Glad I could help.”

“Call me Este.”

“Call me Jazz.”

“Tis a pleasure!”

“Same here! Listen, I need to go. I’ll let you clean house here so to speak and grab a bath. Be sure to feed, Gilligan.”

“God bless ye, Jazz!”

“He works in mysterious ways I hear.”

“Aye!” He waved at her walking away. Rubbing his bristled chin he watched her close her trunk, get into the car, back up and drive away. “I’m beholden to ye, Mister Sanchez.”

“He knows!” A voice made him jump and look around. His new cell in his pants pocket buzzing he removed it and looked the screen over. A winking emoji was all he had to go by. Oddly enough he chuckled and winked back. Good enough for him. Bath time!

HONK! HONK!

William Gullivant raced down the steps of his apartment. Black Box pulled up sideways at the end of the sidewalk he jumped in on the passenger side and joined Nick. “Sorry I wasn’t outside already. I wrote a note for V saying where I went and ordered her to not leave the apartment.”

“On you and yours! We’ll grab the Raptor and drop Black Box here back off at the jail for Opal. You’re riding with me to Diamonds on the Water.”

“The jewelry store? Why there?”

“They pierce people there.”

“So do tattoo parlors. Wouldn’t it make more sense going to one of those? I’m guessing you’re not talking ears.”

“Not even close! Because I want real diamonds and the shock value of it all.”

“Midnight only?”

“Bearpaw after she gets back from Charleston.” Nick drove on! Hitting the street, he made his way coastal until the back road turn off to Harbinger Shoals. “I’m buying if you want to collar and pierce V.”

“Do you think she’s worth wasting money on? She might change her tune she can be flighty. I think she likes my dominating change but probably considers it a game until I really sink my teeth in.”

“And leaving notes saying you will be back helps?”

“Wrong thing to do? It’s just something I’ve always done.”

“Break old habits or forget keeping her.”

“I am trying.”

“Just not succeeding!”

“Dammit! Hey! I just realized something. I got a text from an old friend of mine who is in town. He’s a tattoo artist and piercer from Nashville Tennessee. Ernesto Montoya! He stayed here at his grandparents one summer our Junior year of High School. He’s sent me pussy pics for years now, every time he does a job on some hot chick.”

“Have him meet us there. I’ll pay him for his time.”

“Awesome!”

Number dialed Will looked out the window until the man answered with, “Sup Homie!” Laughing at first Will straightened up. “Hey, Ernie, want to make some fast money? My employer needs his whore pierced pronto. Within the hour, money no option.” Nick smirked over that! “Visiting your aunt? Can you break away?” Listening further Will busted up laughing. “No way! Nick? Ernie’s aunt owns Diamonds on the Water. He’s there right now.”

“Small world! Five grand if he helps.”

“Hear that, Ern? Five grand!”

“Three women!”

“Three? Who besides Midnight?”

“V and Sasha Summerhill.”

“Sasha? Nodin Merrick’s maid?”

“The same! He’s meeting us there.”
