After his surgery, Auguste found himself walking in the corridor, a pair of rehab nurses assisting him. “I hate to put you through this bother,” Auguste told them. “Perhaps someone should design some modern, automated system.”

“No bother,” said Naomi.

“And such a design has been contemplated,” Felice put in.

“Yes,” Naomi said. “There’s talk of a new mobility support system design consisting of ceiling tracks, a modified Gait/Transfer belt and suspended adjustable hanger straps with quick attach/release hardware for a separate weight-range coded rubber strap that connects between the adjustable length hanger and the modified Gait belt.”

“Right,” Felice noted. “Sort of a therapeutic variation of ‘Johnny Jump Up’ for adult rehab. Such a mobility support system catches and suspends the patient if he should start to fall, making it easier for the caregiver to safely guide the ‘falling’ movement and help the patient regain a stable position.”

“In addition,” Naomi said, “the patient might also be able to practice squats and a variety of strong leg/surgical-leg exercises with such a P/T. Redesign Gait belt.”

“It would be made of light weight, high strength materials with ‘carnival ride’ type structure and bright ‘carnival/cartoon’ colors,” Felice said.

“The whole-body frame support would also use light weight, high strength materials in the frame system for back-safe handling,” Naomi pointed out.

“But speaking of back-safe handling,” Felice put in, “we find our current procedures superior in several critical ways.”

“For instance,” Naomi said, “our hands-on approach allows for expert guidance and anchoring.”

“Right,” Felice concluded. “Guidance and anchoring. And you wouldn’t want us out of a job, would you, Mr. Auguste?”

Long before the third circuit of the rehab wing, Auguste agreed completely.
