Monte POV:
Talk about ‘Good news-bad news’!?
When I sent JB up to see Ibera, I was hoping he could convince Tumrik and Leena to help us out on our current project. Then, just as we all went home for the night, I summoned JB and was told the good news, that Tumrik and Leena were already here! However, the bad news was, that fucking asshole, Chen, had stolen Tumrik’s spaceship and JB was insisting on helping him go after it.
That meant, at the very least, I would be losing JB, Max, Braitak and Tumrik’s help on our project. He said that Tiny and Steve had teleported aboard the spaceship, but something must’ve happened since nobody could get ahold of them.
He did say that Ibera, using the transponder code that Tumrik had given her, managed to ascertain where it was they were headed.
And, it was nowhere near Earth!
We were trying to figure out what the hell he was trying to do since, after a full day, it didn’t appear he was changing course. That’s when JB told me that they had also brought Jasmine back. She was ‘chemically’ connected to Tiny and was hoping she could communicate with him to figure out what was going on.
Jasmine was nervous, wondering where she was going to stay until I could get her pardon processed. I told her not to worry about it. As long as she didn’t do anything illegal no one would even know she was back on earth.
She looked relieved, “Cool, I mean, I wasn’t planning on it. However, Tiny must be unconscious because I can’t reach him!”
Since there wasn’t much we could do at the moment, I asked Tumrik and Braitak about possibly getting their help with trying to figure out this Bargantuan spaceship.
When I told them what happened to one of their brethren’s spaceships that encountered the Bargantuan’s fleet, they both said they would do anything they could to help. I assured them, that as soon as we could put a plan together, I wouldn’t have any problem with JB and Max helping them try to reacquire their spaceship.
When I asked if Tumrik and Braitak wanted to reacquaint themselves with their brothers in Siberia, they weren’t too keen on the idea about possibly having to admit that their spaceship had been stolen.
I told them about how their brothers in Siberia had been trying to work with the KGB to develop ‘chemically enhanced’ psychic abilities.
Tumrik chuckled, “I could’ve told them that idea was ludicrous! Now that I’ve been able to study JB’s and Max’s abilities in depth, I know that you can’t chemically enhance their DNA. I’ve come to realize that to have real, powerful psychic abilities, you needed to get them the way you all have gotten them, through a catalyst.”
That made a bunch of us smile.
Then, I started explaining how we discovered that the Bargantuan spaceship seemed to only respond to telepathic commands. That really caught Tumrik’s attention and he immediately told us that now he was very interested in checking out the spaceship with us. Especially, since he and his three friends now had telepathy.
I had almost forgotten about that and now realized that their help would be even more insightful.
We decided to break for the night.
Tumrik and Leena joined Braitak and Juules on our spaceship, while the rest of us headed home. We planned on joining up with them on our spaceship in the morning before teleporting to Nevada.
Tiny POV:
I should have known to turn invisible before teleporting to the rapidly departing ship. However, in my defense, everything happened so damned fast none of us really had any chance to think about much of anything. I was just glad that Steve had been on the ship enough times to be able to teleport with me to the control console on the bridge.
I couldn’t freaking believe it when I saw that Chen was at the controls!
I asked him what the FUCK he was trying to do when all of a sudden Markus appeared from behind him, pointing a stunner at us. His first shot missed, and hit the control console. Staring at the smoldering control console distracted me just enough that he was able to fire off two more shots that took Steve and I out.
I can’t believe how much it hurts to get hit by one of those damned things! Luckily for me, I managed to partially dodge out of the way and he only hit my arm, but that was still enough to take me down.
I was just starting to regain consciousness when I felt somebody dragging me out from behind the control console.
I decided to play possum.
That’s when I heard Chen yelling at Markus about being so stupid as to shoot at us and miss. I listened carefully as Chen was querying the computer, trying to assess just how much damage had been done.
That’s when I realized I wasn’t the only one who acted hastily. In Chen’s haste, the stupid bastard had the spaceship’s controls set on manual and simply hit maximum hyper-warp drive without actually setting a course to anywhere!
I had a very bad feeling when the computer informed him that it was unable to assume control of the spaceship. Then, when I heard what direction we were going, I knew from the flying around that we had done, we were heading out into the middle of nowhere.
That was confirmed when the computer reported to him that it was nearly 39,000 light years to the nearest gravity well on our present course!
I knew that Tumrik had just installed a fresh crystal, therefore, I was not surprised when the computer informed Chen that we would reach the gravity well before running low on power. When I heard the computer also inform him that the current inventory didn’t show a replacement control console, I almost had to laugh.
I knew that Tumrik did indeed have a spare console that he had put the snatch on when his Commandant told him he could stay behind with us on our planet. He’d grabbed a whole lot of things that didn’t show up on the inventory.
I tried getting Steve on private mode, but when his icon didn’t come into my head, I realized that he was still out. I didn’t even bother trying to reach anyone back on Perdition Island since I knew we’d already been at warp 6.5 long enough to be completely out of range.
That’s when I thought about Jasmine. While she had lost most of her psychic abilities, she did still have telepathy. I wondered if it might still be possible to join with her, even though we were in hyper-warp?
You see, what most people don’t realize is that when you’re in hyper-warp you’re technically in a different dimension. But, as I put more effort into my thoughts, suddenly her icon appeared in my head! I told her what had happened and that while I had regained consciousness, Steve was apparently still out, after being stunned by that asshole, Markus.
She told me that she, Tumrik and Leena had gone to Ms. Ibera’s and she was now with Max and JB at their new home on Earth. She told me to hang on while she joined with JB so he could relate to everyone what was going on.
I was glad when one of the people that JB was now joined with was Tumrik. Tumrik confirmed that there was indeed a brand-new control console somewhere in the cluttered mess that was the storage room.
He also told me that replacing it was going to be a son-of-a-bitch. The reason for that being the old console had to be completely powered down and disconnected from the power before it could be removed. And, if you didn’t do it right, you could easily be electrocuted! He went on to say that normally if it needed to be replaced, he would shut the entire spaceship down. However, since we were currently in hyper-warp, that wasn’t going to be possible.
I asked him how he suggested I might try and do it.
He groaned, “The safest way would be to go into the engineering section and shut all the power down to the bridge. That would also immediately pull you out of hyper-warp, but, that would leave the spaceship adrift and without any shields or artificial gravity.”
He went on to tell me what tools I would need. And, that if I was to try and do it that way, to make sure I had everything set up and ready. He even suggested that I have someone like Chen or Steve turn off the power so I could be ready to go the second it happened. He cautioned me that having never worked in a zero-gravity environment before, it was going to be extremely difficult.
I was beginning to think that maybe we’d be better off just continuing on to the gravity well. I told Tumrik our current trajectory and even he thought it might be a better idea to just ride it out for now. He said he was in our spaceship, the Starship Redemption, and had plotted our current course. He said we were actually getting somewhat closer to earth, albeit nowhere near a direct route. He told me that if I decided to just let it go, he would get a hold of me, through Jasmine, in a few days and that possibly they could plot an intercept course where he could come and help me.
The trick would be to not let Chen expose me to a psychic nullifier. I told him that I had a feeling Chen was freaking out and might be amenable to me trying to help him. Then, all I would have to do would be to bide my time until I could take out his main guys, even if I had to kill them!
About that time, Steve’s icon appeared in my head and I began filling him in on our current status.
Area S-42 in Nevada, CIA/USAF Secret Research Facility
Master Sergeant Peter Murphy POV:
I couldn’t wait to get to work this morning. Last night, after our friends left, the three scientists and I decided to stop at the casino for a couple cold ones. We commandeered a table way off into one corner where we could talk in private.
Henry was the most excited about everything we’d just learned, but Verna wasn’t far behind. We of course, talking in whispers, couldn’t believe everything Monte and his people had helped us discover. Then, just as we ordered our second round of drinks, Verna saw one of her girlfriends come in and immediately took off to greet her.
I tried to get her attention, to remind her to keep quiet, when I heard her start telling her friend, “HOLY SHIT, Susie, we just found out there’s really...”
Then, all of a sudden, it’s like the stupid bitch was completely fuck struck!
Her friend asked her what she was so excited about, only to be told, by Verna, “I, I, what the FUCK? What day is today? How the FUCK did I even get here?”
I started snickering and looked at Henry and Aaron, “I guess that ‘spell thing’ Monte put us under is for real! Did you see that? Old Verna doesn’t remember a damn thing that happened today! I wonder if she even remembers that we’re all here?”
Henry whispered, “Geez, what are we gonna do if she asks us what happened today?”
I shrugged my shoulders, “I’m not sure, but I would suggest acting stupid if she does. Since she no longer remembers, anything we say to her, would be just like saying it to a stranger, don’t you think?”
Henry nodded, but Aaron shook his head, “No, I mean, she was there today?! I bet it wouldn’t hurt if we tried to remind her about what happened. After all, she is expected to be down there with us tomorrow, isn’t she?”
I shook my head, “We should only remind her that she needs to be down there tomorrow, but if she really doesn’t remember anything, I don’t want to take a chance on forgetting everything that we learned today. Don’t you agree?”
Well, it didn’t take long, before Verna and her friend, Susie, who was a tech that had been down there before, noticed us sitting over in the corner and came over.
Verna was still in a fog when Susie giggled, “Hey guys, Verna was just trying to tell me something, when all of a sudden, it’s like she developed amnesia!? She said that something happened today, but that was all she was able to say before it seemed like her brain shorted out! What gives?”
Sure as SHIT, before I could do anything, old Aaron boy started flapping his jibs, “Monte brought ... Well, shit, what the heck was I going to say again?”
He started looking all around as both Henry and I started laughing. Before Henry could screw up too, I put my hands up, “Susie? While some interesting things did indeed happen today, we are not at liberty to discuss anything with you. Suffice it to say, Verna and Aaron just learned the hard way what happens when one of us says more than we should. I’ll tell you what though, since you’re part of the project anyway, just meet us down in the subbasement of area S-42 at 9 AM, and be ready to be surprised, okay?”
It was funny the way Susie kept looking back and forth between Verna and Henry and I. The second she tried to ask another question, I just held my hands up and said, “Ask me no questions, I tell you no lies! And, just let it go at that, okay? We’ll see you tomorrow morning, at 0900 sharp!”
I knew at that point that Henry and I needed to call it a night. He agreed with me and the two of us left the three of our friends who were still as befuddled as ever.
In the morning, when I showed up at the hangar, I found Henry was getting besieged with questions from Aaron, Verna and Susie. I suggested we all go downstairs to the subbasement.
Verna, back to being her usual bitchy self, scoffed, “Murphy, weren’t you supposed to bring Monte and some of his people with you this morning? How are they going to get in here, if we’re already down there?”
I scrunched my eyes, trying to think of a snappy comeback, but just said, “Don’t worry about it, okay? If they need help getting here, I’m sure they’ll call!”
I thought Henry was going to die laughing as we all headed into the elevator down to the subbasement. We were only in the Bargantuan’s spaceship hangar for a few seconds when Monte and a bunch of his friends from yesterday all suddenly appeared. I thought I was going to pee my pants from laughing so hard at the way Aaron, Verna and Susie all screamed.
They were all staring at the two aliens who were with them when, of course, Verna just had to prove she was a snobby bitch, “What the FUCK Monte? How the hell did you get here, and what is this, Halloween? What’s up with these two freaks?”
Monte looked embarrassed, so I told him, “Um, Boss, it seems that Aaron and Verna tried to tell their friend, and our colleague, Susie what happened yesterday. It appears that spell you put us under really worked! Are we free to talk yet?”
Monte, and a bunch of his friends started laughing. Then he said, “It’s okay now, Sarge, I just put them back under a new spell. Unfortunately, that won’t undo their amnesia. To them, nothing that we did yesterday ever happened.”
It was at this point when Verna finally figured out this wasn’t some kind of joke. She asked, in all seriousness, “Were we all really here yesterday?”
Monte chuckled, “Yes you were, and no, today is not Halloween. Let me introduce you to my two Gromorik friends, Tumrik and Braitak. Just to remind you, from left to right, the other guys here are JB, Max, Amy, Glenn and Lonnie. Sheila and Maggie will be ‘popping in’ shortly. So, Susie, you must be one of the techs that Henry told us about yesterday?”
Susie was nodding, slowly breaking into a grin. “Yes sir. Boy, I really wish I’d been here yesterday! If I had been, maybe Verna and Aaron wouldn’t have forgotten everything?”
Monte was nodding and grinning, while all I could do was smile. It was hard to keep from laughing as I realized just how much my three friends were about to discover.
We all proceeded to go up into the spaceship.
Verna was the first to freak out, “How did all these panels get opened? Shit! Last I knew, we couldn’t even find any panels!?”
Henry chuckled, “You ain’t seen nothing yet, wait’ll Monte’s two girlfriends get here! One of them, a cute little redhead named Sheila, figured out how to make the console light up!”
Verna was scrambling up onto one of the chairs when the other little cutie, Amy and Monte decided to fly up and join us.
That blew Susie’s mind, “Holy shit! Monte, do the two of you have psychokinesis? Or did you just jump up here?”
Monte grinned, “All of my friends have several forms of psychokinesis. Even my two Gromorik friends, Tumrik and Braitak have mental telepathy. While we’re waiting for Sheila and Maggie to get here, since it’s going to be very inconvenient for the three of you to constantly be reminded of everything, how would all five of you like to be given the gift of telepathy?”
I was stunned! Could Monte really do that?
I was just thinking about that when Verna, being her usual self, scoffed, “Director Monte, either this is the best mind fuck of all time or you’re full of shit! Everyone knows that all that ESP stuff and especially psychokinesis, isn’t for real.”
Monte chuckled, “Okay then, we just won’t include you! How about the rest of you? Rather than argue with Verna, let me just say that all you have to do is agree to what we call the ‘Confidentiality Consequence’. Unlike what happened to the two of you yesterday, where you just forgot everything, if you accept that consequence, instead of forgetting everything, you’ll just get one hell of a stomachache! And the more you try to say, it will feel like you just swallowed a bowl full of broken glass. So, who wants mental telepathy?”
I was glad I remembered everything from yesterday, because I for one, while being slightly doubtful, wasn’t going to turn this offer down!
I immediately raised my hand and noticed that everyone except Verna also had their hands raised. Monte explained that JB would actually be the one to bestow the gift of telepathy on us. I about couldn’t believe it when, within seconds of him touching my shoulder, it’s like I could hear him and Monte chuckling in my head!
Even better, I could see these little pictures of them, too. As JB was going around and touching the rest of my friends, it was amazing that one by one they all joined into our ‘silent’ conversation. Monte explained that we were going to go into what they called ‘group mode’ and that all the pictures would disappear. He said this was necessary since there were so many of us, all the pictures would get confusing.
It was hard to believe that nobody’s mouths were moving, even though everyone could hear everyone else talking. It took a few minutes to get used to it. Then, slowly but surely, everyone could talk, at nearly the same time, but yet, you could hear AND understand each of them distinctly. When I asked about this, JB told me that with telepathy, group conversations could happen 10 times faster than they could if you’re talking out loud.
It wasn’t until Amy asked Monte if she could try something that she had thought about last night, that I noticed that Verna had no idea what was going on.
Then, when Monte gave Amy the green light to try whatever it was. All of a sudden the entire vertical component of the control panel lit up! That’s when Verna really freaked out, “Who the, what the FUCK, what just happened here?”
Henry chuckled, “Well, Verna, if you had telepathy, like the rest of us, you would’ve known that young Amy here just figured out how to activate the ship’s computer!”
That seemed to piss off Verna even more, “You’re full of shit, Henry! There’s no way this little bimbo, who should still be at home playing with her dollies, could possibly have figured that out!”
Suddenly, this rather large dude, named Lonnie, walked up next to Amy.
“Verna, let me ask you a question. Have you been working your whole life to become such a fucking despicable bitch? Or were you just born that way? You’re also, a very stupid bitch, since you can’t remember anything that happened yesterday! Just so you know, my young friend here has three doctorates from MIT and an IQ north of 190! Judging from what I’ve seen so far, I doubt your IQ is very far above that of a moron!”
That’s when I had to restrain Verna. I could tell she was about to do something incredibly stupid, like trying to slap either Amy or Lonnie.
That’s when little Amy giggled and stepped right in front of Lonnie, saying, “That’s okay Sarge, let her try to slap me!”
I took a deep breath, but let her go.
I was stunned when I saw Verna try to slap her with all her might. I’m pretty sure she broke her arm and possibly several fingers when, just as her hand got to Amy’s face it’s like she’d hit a brick wall.
I couldn’t help but laugh, “Amy, my dear, remind me never to try that, okay? I sincerely doubt that Verna will ever try that again, I guarantee you that.”
All that happened so fast that it’s like suddenly, everyone was stunned. The weird thing was, everyone was talking about it, telepathically! Even Verna’s friend, Susie, suggested that maybe it was time to ban Verna from the project.
I had to agree because it seemed like Verna was always the contrarian with just about everything that Henry and Aaron tried doing. Monte agreed and the next thing I knew, he grabbed her and the two of them up and disappeared.
That’s when I really discovered that this telepathy thing was beyond cool!
I was wondering what he was going to do with her, when I could hear Monte in my head telling me that he was just taking her to the infirmary so she could get her arm and hand tended to.
I could even hear Verna’s crying in pain! I asked if he was afraid Verna would try ‘spilling the beans’ about the aliens? He said he wasn’t concerned with what she might say, because it would only be one or two words and poor Verna wouldn’t even remember what she’d been doing!
I’m not alone in thinking that she would not be missed.
Thankfully, things calmed down after that and a whole lot of progress was made, thanks to Amy, then Sheila and Maggie after they got here.
Before that, however, those two alien dudes, Tumrik and Braitak were pointing out all kinds of different things inside the panels that we’d opened yesterday. The one guy, Tumrik, commented that from what he could see, it appeared that this ship was nuclear powered. He pointed out several little box-looking things that he said were most likely fusion batteries. And, that would explain how there was still power to the console and display that Amy managed to get to light up.
I felt like I was in school as all of us were just following Tumrik around as he opened a few panels we hadn’t discovered yet and began explaining everything that was inside them.
He did have a few questions of his own, but, those were answered when Amy gleefully screamed, “Holy moly!” And it was like suddenly a big screen appeared on top of the backsplash-like display, now showing words that looked to be in some form of English! Then, she asked it to display their alphabet and sure as shit, it was very similar to ours. The first difference I noticed was their alphabet didn’t have a Q or an X.
Monte asked her, “What made you think of that?”
“Well, I remembered when... ‘our special ‘lady-friend’ suggested the Triloks had been seeding the galaxy with their experiments, it occurred to me these Bargantuans might be one of their earliest experiments. That would explain their use of a crude form of English, like many of the other ET’s you’ve recently discovered?”
Monte grinned, shaking his head, “Amy, you are amazing! You don’t miss a thing, do you!? I think you’ve really hit on something here.”
I couldn’t help but think how wrong Verna had been about young Amy. Talk about a difference in personalities! Where Verna was cold, calculating and brash, Amy was soft-spoken, confident and unassuming.
Not to mention cute!
I also couldn’t stop smiling at her, and the way she winked back at me, was making me blush. I had a feeling that between the guy named Glenn and Lonnie one of the two of them just had to be her boyfriend. Therefore, I was feeling somewhat guilty that I was flirting with her. But, dammit, she sure didn’t seem to mind and was going out of her way to flirt right back!
I knew I’d been caught when the bigger guy, Lonnie, chuckled, “I see our little Amy, has another ardent admirer?”
My ears felt like they were on fire, and I know I was blushing profusely. Then, just as I was about to apologize, Amy playfully slapped Lonnie’s shoulder, “Quit teasing Sergeant Murphy, okay? Don’t tell me you’re jealous!?”
Lonnie started chuckling while shaking his head, but I felt I had to say something, “That’s okay, I deserved it. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable by flirting with you, Amy. It’s just that, it’s hard for me to believe that all that intelligence fits into that cute little, strawberry-blonde head of yours!”
Amy giggled, “Sarge, you really are a silver tongued devil! I was flirting with you, just as much as you were flirting with me. And don’t worry about my two lovers, Lonnie and Glenn, because neither one of them are the jealous type. And, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if I fell in love with you too?”
Now, my entire face felt like it was on fire! It didn’t really help that both of them were laughing their asses off, and nodding in agreement. Then, Susie got into the act, saying, “Good luck with that, sis. I’ve been trying to get the big lug to go out with me for months, to no avail. Maybe I should try flirting with your boyfriends?”
I couldn’t believe it when both Lonnie and Glenn put their arms around her and kissed her cheeks. Now Susie was blushing, damn near as bad as I was. But then, I was really stunned when Amy walked right up to me, pulled my head down and gave me one of the hottest kisses I’ve had in years!
I should mention, that I’m six foot five inches tall and little Amy couldn’t be more than five feet even. I thought I was going to die when Amy giggled, “I hope I didn’t embarrass you, too much Sarge? But I do have to say, I love the way you kiss!”
Monte then got our attention, “Ahemmm, before this turns into an all-out orgy, how’s about we get a little more work done, eh?”
It was hard not to laugh when now there were five of us blushing like crazy. Then, I saw Amy’s little picture come into my head with her saying, “Don’t worry Sarge, we’ll get our chance in the near future! I promise!”
I replied, “Amy, please just call me Peter? Are you sure I’m not too old for you?”
“No way, Pete! As a matter of fact, I’ll bet you’re at least a couple years younger than Lonnie. Besides, age is just a number. The important part is, I think you’re really nice and I can’t wait to get at least another kiss from you, if not a whole lot more?”
That did it! Something about having little Amy in my head was making me hornier than a three peckered Billy goat. “Nothing would make me happier, Little Darlin’ just let me know when and where, okay?”
I started blushing again when Susie giggled, “Petey boy, something tells me you’re about to fall in love! It’s a good thing our telepathy has that ‘privacy’ deal isn’t it? I’d love to know what the two of you said to each other just now!”
I noticed that her face was still flushed, obviously from kissing both Lonnie and Glenn. I couldn’t help but wonder what I might be getting myself into.
Luckily, Monte was urging us to get back to work.
Amy explained to everyone that she felt all anyone had to do, who had telepathy, was to ‘think’ a question to the computer, and it would most likely answer. It seemed like everyone started asking it questions, and while the audio reply sounded a bit strange, it was definitely in English.
After about another hour, Monte felt we’d learned an incredible amount, thanks to Amy’s discovery. Then, even he gave Amy a kiss, which prompted the other two girls, Sheila and Maggie to jump right in and start teasing him about it!
I, for one, was in no hurry to part company with this group. I was thrilled when Monte suggested we all go back to the casino to have a couple drinks before going home for the night. Since I brought the step van, everyone except Susie, Henry and Aaron rode with me.
Amy sat up front with me and we chatted the whole way to the casino. I started wondering about the two aliens, Tumrik and Braitak, but JB said that he and Max were taking the two of them back to Arizona, and wouldn’t be joining us. That’s when I realized even though they looked nothing like us, Tumrik and Braitak were already like part of the gang.
When we got to the casino, we commandeered two tables in the far back corner so we could all sit together. What was really cool, was if we wanted to talk about something work related, we would just use our telepathy. For regular, ‘normal’ conversation, we did that out loud. Oh yeah, and if I thought everybody was teasing each other a lot down in the hangar, I discovered that was nothing compared to what went on in the casino! Especially, after getting a few drinks in them.
I was told that Amy, Monte and their friends were actually all part of a 30 some person polyamorous family. And, that they were only weeks away from moving into this huge hacienda that they were building. Amy told me, on the QT, that once they all got moved in she wanted to bring me for a visit!
Damn, this little cutie was really serious about wanting to get to know me better! And before the night was over, Aaron and Henry were getting an invitation from the cute little red head, Sheila, and Monte’s beautiful, busty, brunette girlfriend, Maggie, too.
