I was in the supermarket today and I thought I saw you
My heart missed a beat and my mouth went dry
I was at the self-service till and you were in the queue
My head said walk away my heart said to give it one more try
I tried to catch your eye, tried to get a better view
But much to my annoyance alas it wasn’t you
I muttered a bad word and let out a little sigh.
I paid for my shopping and went to the car for a little cry
I was at the park today and I thought I saw you
You were walking with another man holding hands and looking happy
You looked like you had found the happiness I had always wished for you
I told myself that’s what I wanted even if it made me feel crappy
You looked like you belonged with him
It seemed you had found love at last
he was everything I wasn’t, confident, good looking and slim
And I knew there and then that you and I and us were in the past.
I was lost in my dreams today and I saw you
Your smiling face, your sexy bum and your sparkling eyes
I was lost in my dreams today and I kissed you
I thought of you and me and us and my head was full of ifs and whys
I fucked things up that is true
In my head I sit and I cry and cry and cry
I was lost in my dreams today and I held you in my arms for a long lone time
I held you close to me, the hugs and cuddles we used to love
I dreamt of you and me and holding hands in the park.
The walks, the chats the emotion, and the friendship that seemed to shine.
I remember holding you in your sleep and feeling your heartbeat.
Memories flood into my head and make me smile.
The day we stood in the cemetery as rain poured down from the clouds above.
The kiss that followed made my heart melt ... are those dreams just mine?
The memories we made will stay with me forever, the good and the bad
The tears the fears the songs the rights the wrongs
The thoughts we shared the adventures we had
The secrets revealed, the hurt concealed, the shame the pain.
I always knew it would not for long.
But I would give me right arm to see you again.
