Dan and Lisa sat in the lawyer’s office, waiting for her to come in. Lisa tied her dress a little tighter so she wouldn’t reveal too much cleavage. “You’ll drive me crazy sitting beside you, unable to touch you.” She smiled, loosening the opening to allow some more breasts to show.
“That doesn’t help me any; I still need you,” he grinned.
“I need you too,” she smiled. She briefly clutched his hand and smiled, crossing her slender legs.
“Sorry for being late.” They heard as the woman wearing a white blouse with a grey skirt entered.
Introductions were made, with Dan appreciating Andrea’s hint of cleavage under her button-up blouse.
“I’m sorry for your loss, Mrs. McKinnon. We will do everything possible to make this trying time less stressful for you. As we spoke on the phone, your husband’s funeral and cremation had already taken place. We will act on your behalf and pay the funeral home.”
Andrea gave Lisa a folder with all the items, like a checklist, of everything the law firm will do for her.
“I didn’t realize there was so much involved when a person dies,” she commented, looking over the listed items.
“How are you doing, money-wise? Do you need funds from your bank account?” Andrea asked.
“I hadn’t left my job with the Postal Service yet, so I still have that income.”
“I understand you are from Belleville, Ontario. One of my questions is, do you plan on moving into your house here in Calgary?”
“No, my daughters and I are going to live in Trenton.”
“That means we’ll have to list the house for sale for you. What are you going to do for housing? Are you going to purchase a home or rent in Trenton?”
“I hadn’t considered either. Right now, my daughters and I are staying with Dan and his family.”
“We’ve said she and the girls can stay with us as long as they like,” Dan offered.
“Do you have a car?”
“Yes, it’s three years old and almost paid off.”
“This may seem harsh, but I need you, Lisa, to surrender any keys you might have to the Calgary house.” Lisa took the key from her purse, handing it to her. “Any other keys?”
“Yes, my brother-in-law, Burt, John’s brother, has a key.”
“We’ll have to get that key from him. I’m not saying he won’t, but family members have virtually scoured a deceased member’s home for valuable items, saying the person wanted them to have them.”
“I have to take my husband’s ashes to my mother-in-law after we leave you. I’ll ask him for the key and bring it to you.”
“Do you need anything from the house?”
“Not that I can think of.”
“If you do, I’ll arrange for someone to accompany you. We have a security firm under contract to watch over homes for us.”
“John didn’t unpack very much; most everything is still in boxes.”
“That’ll make it easier for itemizing. We’ll have the contents accounted for and released to you as soon as possible. The house will have to be empty for sale. We have a realtor you can use to list your house, with their fees paid for through the estate.
“This is very overwhelming for me.”
“Do you have a lawyer we can contact to liaison with on your behalf?”
“I have one Lisa can use,” Dan said, taking his wallet from his pocket. “Kim Banks, she’s very good—as a lawyer, I mean.”
“I remember her from your birthday party. Yes, she is very talented.” Lisa smiled at him, recalling the taste of her pussy.
“Kim Banks,” Andrea said, writing her name and phone number on the folder. “She will help you at your end with any questions you may have.”
“How much is this going to cost me?”
“Our fees are based on the capital value of your husband’s estate. The first 250,000 is three to five percent; the next 250,000 is two to four percent. It takes about 550 person hours to probate a will. The fee will be between 14,500 and approximately 18,000. You will receive a full itemized account of our transactions, and you can question any part of it. We have a lot to do for you, from notifying the provincial and federal governments of his death to detailing debts and credits. If you’re wondering, it’ll take about six to eight months for everything to be finalized.”
“I didn’t realize there was so much involved in dying.”
“I’m sure you’ll have numerous questions. Please, Lisa, call me if you have any queries.”
Lisa and Dan thanked Andrea, then went to the funeral home. She received John’s ashes contained in a Stanley Cup-shaped urn. She was presented with the bill and asked them to forward it to the lawyer handling John’s estate.
