Chapter 19

It was three days before Kat would wake up. As he had promised, Brandon had stayed by her side the entire time. Mark and Emily would have but they both had to work and they had to take care of the farm. Mark did stop by every day on his way home from work and Emily stopped in when she wasn’t working on the farm or in the hospital. Once Kat woke up, Cindy stopped by with her kids and this made Kat light up. She adored those two kids. Kat of course was deeply touched by Brandon’s devotion to her and realized that she was falling madly in love with him. It took till Emily and Mark came in for Kat to learn that all three of her friends, that were in the car with her, had died while the drunk that hit them was able to walk away without a scratch. Kat was able to give an extremely detailed account of what happened to the cops and from them, she learned that the drunk would most likely be in prison for the rest of his life for he had a bunch DUIs on his record and now he had killed three teens.

About a week after the accident and Kat went back into surgery. This time Emily was just an observer. This was something that was usually frowned on but she had used her position and called a favor that the performing surgeon owed her to get herself into the operating room. The surgery started out going well, but then Kat had a bad reaction to one of the medications and she flatlined again. All Emily could do was to stand there in absolute terror, her daughter was dying for the third time, and this time she couldn’t do anything about it.

“Seriously Susie we have to quit meeting like this,” Kat said realizing where she was.

“Don’t worry you’ll be sent back to your meat bag soon, but first you WILL sit down and listen to what we have to tell you.”

Kat noticed that there were three other people in the room now. Her grandparents and a very handsome black man in a marine uniform. “Whatever you say, Susie,” said Kat dryly as she sat down. “But first a question, who’s the super-hot guy?”

Susie smiled “I’ll get there, no need to get your panties in a bunch.” The other three people just smiled.

“Hold on here Susie, if you’re going to try and tell me my future again, I still don’t want to know. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest and not knowing what’s going to happen next will encourage me to live every day like it’s my last.”

The four dead people in the room smiled. “That’s a very good attitude to have my dear.” Said the Marine. “Now I suppose that I should stop being rude and introduce myself. I’m Major Dewayne Richardson, and I was Emily’s first fiancé.” Kat took a step back and paled a bit. He then told Kat how he and Emily met and got together. He also told her of his death.

“Wow, no wonder why Emily was so traumatized by your death” Dewayne nodded.

“I’m so glad that you two became friends, you protected her, and you got her together with your dad; Katelynn. Emily wouldn’t have survived another suicide attempt, and you were right when you told her your dad’s story that day. My death’s anniversary was coming up and she was fated to succeed in killing herself. She was planning on killing herself that evening. For saving her life I can only say thank you and if you ever need help or advice all you have to do is think of me and I’ll be there.”

Susie then spoke up, “I’ve got the same deal with Emily. Now, Kat, I have something very important to tell you so be quiet and listen carefully. The foster parents that took your dad and me in were our aunt and uncle. That’s right, our aunt and uncle beat us regularly, forced your dad to rape and impregnate me, and then sold the videos of us to other perverts. That also means that your dad killed the last of our family on your grandfather’s side to protect me. Problem was that some of our aunt’s siblings started hunting me for revenge. Your dad caught and killed them too when they attacked me. Yep, your dad has killed five people to protect me. After this, we were split up by the state and I was so traumatized that I was having nightmares every single night. Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore. I’m truly sorry that I wasn’t there for your dad, in person, but I was always by his side in spirit. Tell your mom and Dad what we have told you and this will prove that this isn’t just your imagination. We just ask you to choose the moment very carefully.”

Kat was speechless, she knew her Dad hadn’t told her everything but never in a million years did she imagine that his past was this bad. Kat collapsed and started crying. She didn’t even know how long that she cried. Her grandparents came up and sat down next to her to comfort her. For this Kat was extremely grateful for she was overwhelmed by all the information, that she had learned about her mom and dad. Once Kat finally finished crying Dewayne came up to her:
