Chapter 5: Gerard And Peter At It Again

Both of them were stopped just after they had left, on different dates. They were pulled up on the pretext of a back light on their vehicle being out.’

‘The officer stopping them told them he would have to give them a ticket. Then changed his mind. He let them off and invited them out for a meal. They felt obliged to accept as he had been kind. They felt no concern because he was after all a policeman.’

He could see he had her complete attention. ‘Soon afterwards, he contacted them and set a date. They had a lovely meal out and both said he was a perfect gentleman and good company.’

‘When he took them home, they invited him in for a coffee. After their coffee he got up, they thought to go. They stood up and he kissed them. So far, they were happy. Then he tried to go further. When they objected, both said it was like a switch had been thrown. His character changed immediately.’

Lewis smiled at her, ‘One of the reasons I’m so successful with my counselling is that people soon realise that anything I learn stays with me. Unless they give me permission to divulge anything.’ he said.

‘What would you want me to do?’ she asked, thinking am I really suggesting going into a situation at the suggestion of a schoolboy. But he had impressed her, so she let her concerns ride for now.

‘Tyrone will be bound to contact you very soon,’ he said. ‘When he does you let me know, I’ll give you my number before I go. Go out with him and enjoy your meal. Invite him in for a coffee when he brings you home.’

‘I and a colleague will be outside nearby. When he tries to go further than you are prepared to let him, you will be alert to him changing and becoming dangerous. How you deal with him is up to you, but we would prefer to come and collect him alive, either unconscious or tied up, blindfolded and gagged. A dead policeman would create a major problem, as I’m sure you realise.’

‘I presume you won’t be taking him to the local police station.’ she said. ‘No,’ Lewis told her. ‘He will be kept in confinement for a few hours. He will be released soon afterwards and encouraged to change his job. But he will never rape anyone again. It won’t help the ladies we don’t know about, but it will save possibly hundreds who might suffer in the future.’

‘I’m rather concerned that someone your age can get hold of the knowledge you seem to have about me.’ she said. ‘I can assure you,’ Lewis said, ‘That only a very minimal amount of information was given to indicate you might be ideal to help. I really know very little about you. However, for your peace of mind, the information came from someone who trusted me implicitly with it.’

‘Have you decided what you’re going to do when you leave school?’ she asked. Surprised at the sudden change in subject Lewis said, ‘University I hope then possibly a career in medicine.’

‘Ok,’ she said, ‘I’ll do it.’ ‘Thank you,’ Lewis said, ‘If you want, I can let you have a hypodermic to knock him out with.’ She smiled. ‘Don’t worry about me,’ she said, ‘If he tries anything on with me, I’ll be able to deal with him.’

‘How will you take him away?’ Mary asked. ‘We’ll put him in a body bag and carry him out to a van.’ Lewis told her. ‘If anyone sees us, a visitor had a heart attack.’

Mary took her phone out, ‘Ok, your details please.’ she said. Lewis gave her his name, address and phone number. Mary typed it in and next minute his phone rang once. ‘Just testing.’ Mary said.

‘Just one thing,’ she said, ‘I’ll do my best just to knock him out, but what if I accidentally hit him too hard and killed him?’ ‘That would be unfortunate,’ Lewis said, ‘But it won’t be a problem for you, we’ll still take him away. Either way you’ll hear no more about it.’

‘Can you tell me anything about the two ladies that I could perhaps copy,’ she said. ‘For a variety of reasons, they had both been without a boyfriend for the previous two years,’ Lewis told her. ‘Neither could be certain but they felt that they had probably let that slip over the meal.’

Mary grinned. ‘One of the reasons I accepted his invite,’ she said, ‘Is that I’ve been moving around so much these past few years I’ve had no chance to make any friends that close. So, I’ll make sure I let that slip out.’

As she saw him out Mary said, ‘In my career I’ve met a lot of people. I have to say that you are the most unique.’ ‘I’ll take that as a compliment, I think,’ Lewis said smiling. They shook hands and he set off for home.

After he had gone, Mary got on her computer and sent an email to a special address. She enclosed Lewis’s details and asked for everything known.

Then feeling quite sad that Tyrone was already a failure as far as her love life was concerned, she went to bed.

FRIDAY

Friday morning Mary got a call from Major Edward whom she had dealt with a couple of times. ‘I’ve sent you a picture,’ he said, ‘Can you confirm that was your visitor last night.’ Mary opened it and saw a slightly younger Lewis looking very smart in a dinners suit. ‘Yes.’ she said.

‘He’s a good pal of mine,’ Major Edward told her, ‘He’s on my ‘W.O.’ list. ‘When it’s all over, let me have a report on what happened and how you found him.’ ‘Yes, sir.’ she said.

Mary knew that ‘pal of mine’ was code for ‘I trust him.’ Being on the ‘W.O.’ list, (When Older.) Meant that MI5 had him on their radar for future membership. Happier now, she walked through what might happen in her flat and moved a few treasured items out of the way.

She also put some 6mm rope in the bedroom along with some cloth to use as a blindfold and gag. All she could do then was to carry on as normal and wait.

Lewis reported back to Brian that he had seen Mary, and she was willing to help. She’ll contact me as soon as he gives her the date,’ he said.

SATURDAY

Lewis and Mike had their usual hug and a kiss before they opened up the shop. ‘I’ve got a message for you from Chloe.’ Lewis told him. As Mike looked surprised, he told him, ‘Chloe said to tell you that all her problems are now floating around in the back room.’ Mike laughed, ‘Good for her.’ he said. He gave Lewis another hug. ‘Another person’s life sorted out,’ he said, ‘Thanks to you.’

They had a busy morning and at lunch time had their usual chippy meal. After they had eaten, they both stripped themselves off and after moving the cushions off the settee onto the floor, they lay head to tail and played with each other.
