They drove into Llandudno. As neither Tom nor Amelia had ever been there before, they had a quick look around the shops. Lorraine and Danny picked up some food and drink before they all went up to the top of the Great Orme on the funicular railway.

‘Have you got the key and the plan?’ Danny clipped the front door key on his key ring and studied the plan. ‘That’s great,’ he said, ‘Now all we do is wait. When I text you something nondescript on the fifth, that will mean we are outside waiting.’ Danny told him.

‘Every night now, go to bed with your light on. If you’re still awake at midnight, you can switch it off then if you want to. On the fourth, make sure you’re absent for an hour during the afternoon, then come home and tell your mum your scan showed everything was healing and you’ve been taken off the refuge’s books. Make sure your uncle hears you. Any questions?’ he asked. ‘No, I know what I have to do,’ Julian said, ‘I’m scared, but keen to see an end to it.’

They returned to the front door where they both gave him a hug and a kiss as they wished him luck. Lorraine told him again that she thought he was very brave. Walking back towards Llandudno they stopped several roads away, picked a house number and rang for a taxi.

That soon came. They were taken straight to Llandudno Junction Station to catch the next intercity train home.
