‘Most especially on live victims’ ‘How can you do that?’ Tommy asked, as he thought about what Mr Walker had told him. ‘There are only two ways I can think of,’ Cliff told him. ‘One is to kill him. But not only is that very risky and drastic, I don’t have any facilities for getting rid of dead bodies.’ Tommy looked at him and saw that he was grinning.

But even so, Tommy still wasn’t completely sure if he was serious or not. ‘The other option is to remove his ability and his desire to have intercourse.’ ‘By removing his balls?’ Tommy asked. ‘That’s often the best option.’ Cliff agreed.

‘But once he’s caught and secured, you wouldn’t need to be involved in that. Have you really done that?’ Tommy asked. ‘To do anything like that would be very illegal,’ Cliff answered, ‘So I couldn’t possibly answer that. But I will admit that I’ve watched it being done to several rapists.’

‘I actually know of one who has since become a much nicer person because of it.’ ‘Well, if it comes to that’, Tommy told him, ‘If you let me help you, I’ll let you help me with a PM.’ ‘I’d be ok with that.’ Cliff agreed with a smile.

As they said goodbye and shook hands, Tommy told him, ‘I have to say that I’ve never met anyone like you before, but it’s an experience I wouldn’t have missed for the world.’

FRIDAY - VIDEO SHOP - CLIFF & DEAN

As he came out of school and checked his phone, he saw he had had a text from Dean at twenty-five past three.

‘Hi Cliff,

I’ve Just left Huddersfield on the train. I’m due into Manchester at four twenty-five,

Dean.’

He sent a reply,

‘Hi Dean,

I’m just on my way to the station now. I’ll see you at the barrier

Cliff.’

Soon after he got a thumbs up. Arriving at the station, he checked the display boards to see which platform. Deans train was due in in ten minutes, so he just sat and people watched. As the train pulled in and the passengers started piling through the ticket barriers, he stood up.

Going as near as he could without getting in the way, he soon spotted Dean coming down the platform. Seeing him walking, he smiled to himself as he remembered Leslie’s description of him. ‘He ambles along like a bear.’ Leslie had told him.

‘He’s a similar build to one as well, but he’s soft and cuddly, not fierce.’ When Dean looked in his direction, Cliff waved to him. Dean saw him, waved back and as soon as he was through the barrier he came over. They shook hands and Cliff told him it was nice to meet him.

‘We have two choices now,’ Cliff told him. ‘The shop doesn’t close until five. If we get a bus or a taxi, we’ll be there before it shuts and you’ll meet the manager before he goes home. He’ll guess you’re here with a problem, but he won’t ask you anything about it.’

‘But if that bothers you, we can walk it in twenty minutes and time our arrival for after he’s closed up and left.’ ‘I don’t mind I’ll leave it to you.’ Dean told him. ‘So, they went outside and got a taxi. They arrived at the shop at quarter to five.

Cliff paid for the taxi, refusing Deans offer to pay. ‘No, you’re here as my guest.’ Cliff told him. They went in and Mike was serving so Cliff waved and led the way through to the back room. He made him and Dean a coffee and they sat at the table.

Part way through their coffees, Mike came in. Cliff introduced Dean as a friend of Leslie’s who’d come down from Huddersfield to see him. Mike shook his hand and told him, ‘Well, whatever your problem is, I’m sure Cliff will sort it for you.’

‘I’m off home now,’ Mike said, ‘I’m sure that when you go home, you’ll be a lot happier than when you arrived.’ He wished him luck and left. Cliff saw him out, gave him a hug and a kiss then locked the door. He called Dean in and showed him his key in the lock.

After explaining to him why it was there and what he needed to do to get out, they returned to their coffees. ‘You did an amazing job with Leslie.’ Dean told him. ‘Yes,’ Cliff agreed, ‘He told me he’d shown you his photo, he must think a lot of you to let you see that.’

‘Apart from him and me, I think you’re only the third person I know of that has ever seen it.’ ‘But we’ve only met the once, last Saturday.’ Dean replied, sounding puzzled. ‘Well, some people can recognise a really nice person right away.’ Cliff told him. ‘Clearly Leslie thinks that of you.’

‘And if it’s someone you like, that’s usually the start of a lasting friendship.’ ‘I don’t have anyone I could call a friend.’ Dean told him, sounding very down. ‘Yes, you do,’ Cliff told him, ‘You now have Leslie, who was so concerned about you that he sent you here to see me.’

‘And by the end of the evening, after you have helped me solve your problem, I’ll know so much about you that we’ll become friends too.’ Dean beamed. ‘That would be so nice,’ he said. ‘Thank you.’ ‘Now let me tell you the procedure.’ Cliff told him.

‘To be able to help you best, I need to know an awful lot about you. To do that I’ll ask you lots of questions about you, your hopes and dreams, your family, your home and all sorts of very personal things that you’ve probably never discussed with anyone before ever.’

‘To make it easier for you to relax, I’ll ask you to lie on the settee, then as I ask you questions, I’ll massage your back from your head to your feet and back again. That will make you feel much easier about answering them.’

‘Eventually, you will find it making you feel so relaxed with me that you’ll be able to tell me all about your problem.’ Dean wasn’t too sure even now if he would be able to do that, but he certainly intended to try. ‘In a moment I’ll ask you to decide if you’re going to stay and try, or not.’

‘If you decide to leave, you’ll be welcome to come back again whenever you want. Unless you feel happy about being here with me, it won’t work and we’d be wasting our time. There’s no pressure in here, you only do what you are happy about.’

‘So please decide in your own time, and either get ready to leave, or go and lie on the settee.’ ‘Should I take my shoes off?’ Dean asked. ‘Yes please.’ Cliff told him. Dean went straight over to the settee, took his shoes off, pushed them neatly underneath and lay down.

Cliff followed him over and sat at his side by his waist. He explained what to do next and Dean turned over right away. Cliff massaged his head which had a lot of curly hair on it, ginger in colour. He felt nice and relaxed already, and moments later he called out ‘Go’ as he’d been instructed to.

As Cliff massaged down onto his shoulders, he told him, ‘Dean, all I know about you so far is that you are the nephew of George, are currently unemployed, are nineteen years old and have an ambition to grow mushrooms. So, the first thing I’d like you to do, is to tell me where you lived and who you lived with during your last few years at school.’

‘I lived with my mum and dad,’ Dean began as Cliff massaged down his back. ‘We lived in a semidetached, three bedroomed house that is on a small estate of similar houses.’ ‘Do you have any siblings?’ Cliff asked as he neared his waist.

‘I have an older sister who got married and moved away, just as I was starting secondary school.’ he answered. As Cliff moved up onto his cheeks, he tensed up slightly but continued answering, although his voice sounded a bit strained.

As Cliff moved down onto his legs he relaxed, and when Cliff asked, ‘How did you get on with them all?’ Dean told him, ‘They were all lovely. My sister always fussed over me too much, but I really missed her when she left. She has a lovely husband now, and I’m glad she’s happy.’

Starting back up his legs again, Cliff asked, ‘And do you still live there with your parents?’ ‘No.’ Dean answered sounding sad. Before he could continue Cliff told him to start at the point things changed and take him through to today.’
