“First we power up the monitor. Wait, two, three, and then we turn on the base. OK, watch carefully. The screen showed BIOS and copyright, 8192 MB RAM, and ‘F2 for Settings Menu.’ Then the screen blanks and we see ‘Missing Operating System.’ I will explain the acronyms later, but we will reboot first and you hit the ‘F2’ key repeatedly when you see that screen. This new menu will help us change the boot order. There, you fixed it, perfect. Now, ‘F10’ to save and exit. Now watch.” The external drive began scrubbing and spinning. Dan switched off the unit.

Some twenty minutes later, they returned. Grace put the case back together, and re-installed the screws. Next, with Grace at the keyboard, they rebooted and installed Windows 10. As more fields appeared, Grace was laboring to mouse-click on each one. Dan: “May I suggest, use the [Tab] key to hop around, and use Shift-Tab to reverse direction.” “Oh, shit, Dan, that’s so much easier. Why don’t they explain that?”

The rest of the installation finally finished. After getting Chrome and Outlook downloaded, they briefly searched the web and then shut everything down. “Time for bed, my Goddess of Technology.
