Chapter 9: Simplifying AFFAIR
The more complicated and more parts to anything, the greater the chances of failure. Everybody knows this basic principle.
That’s why putting fletchings on a arrow is a mistake.
Wait a minute. Maybe slight complications, improvements in design can improve performance dramatically enough, to outweigh any accrued extra likelihood of failure?
Which had more misfires? A simple flintlock? Or a cartridge loaded firearm with the ignition built in the casing, only needing a firing pin strike inside the weapon? Manufacturing or reloading the brass cartridges is a lot more involved and complicated. The performance and reliability is enhanced by magnitudes.
Okay, I’m convinced there might be a more sure fire method of delivering the toxin on target, than dropping a hornet nest from the sky. There’s time to plot and work out the details. Earlier, I felt rushed, but the replacement politicians were appointed in a faster rush. The timing pressure is off me. The number of targets has been increased, that’s all. No big deal. I just need to get everybody in one place at the same time, then attack.
After rounding up several more sad homeless dudes, I dressed them up, and opened a new bank account for a new organization. The payoff was gallon jugs of cheap wine, just as before.
In addition, I bought the three plane tickets to the west coast. They’ll be more comfortable sleeping n the open without pillowing on ice and snow. My original foundation easily afforded the plane fares.
My new non-profit is named “The Justice League of Social Warriors”. As soon as I began lefty sounding posts, hefty donations began falling in the new account, and invites to send my people to events poured in. In gratitude, I did a mass emailing to lefty politicians, demanding they show up for these events if they expect us to show up at the polls on their behalf next election. I strongly suggested they specifically thank the Justice League for inviting them, if the have the opportunity to speak. It pays to advertize.
Amazing, within weeks, thousands claim to be members of or associated with this newly created fake group. I won’t need a delivery system after all. With simple threats of non-support, I can bring the enemy to my own preselected battleground, one I can prepare in advance. More complicated, it’s worth the effort to set up this entire charade, so the ignition event moment is as simple and foolproof as it can be.
The special guests I invite to the podium and VIP dais, are fire ants. Florida has too many. Sharing them is good. These will be special pets fed on “mad honey” laced with manchineel. They can’t create the toxin themselves, so can’t breed the trait into offspring, and without a continued supply of “mad honey”, the effect soon wears off. They will be plain old fire ants again. Ants don’t lose their stinger and die after attacking. Ants can keep biting again and again. Difficult to shoo away, they readily invade clothing. Often, because of their tiny size, your first awareness of them, is when you are bitten. Now, I only need to pick a date for the bloody ant picnic.
Forth of July. What a great day it was. Maintaining my several covers, I post frequent crocodile tears laments along with everyone else about the loss of so many prominent “admired” officials on such an auspicious day as the nation’s birthday. Surprisingly, not one media mentions fire ants in the news. Maybe that’s one of those law enforcement secrets kept from the public, to screen out the crazy volunteers who want to confess to the crime.
I confessed to the crime, sure did! Took full credit for it in my fake personae of the BeezKneez computerized mythical killer bees master mind. Boldly proclaimed my responsibility and delight at my success. Then, disappeared again in anonymous posts shaming me.
My hope is to never hear about this whole affair again. If I ever use this particular weapon again, it won’t be anytime soon. Besides, I’m thinking of using spiders next time. Cheers!
Hope you enjoy this contemporary fantasy. I remind readers, it’s ONLY a fantasy story. Disregard perceived similarities to current events, I can’t foretell the future, I can only speculate.
