Tabitha guided her spaceship up next to the Federation Corvette.
Tim asked. “Captain Latal, would you kindly make your way over here for a moment?”
She just stood there, not believing what she had just witnessed. She looked Tim in the eyes and asked, “How did your one ship just destroy those four ships?”
Tim flashed a grin at her and casually responded, “It’d be way simpler if you could just come over here.”
Latal smiled warmly as she gently shook her head, a playful glint in her eyes. “Oh, sure, I’ll be right over!”
Tim stood up from his seat, and with a smile, he announced, “I’ll be down in bay 2 to greet her.” As he made his way towards the lift, his anticipation for the arrival grew evident in his brisk steps.
Tabitha turned to Tammy with a furrowed brow and asked, “I can’t help but wonder, how long do you think he will wait before exerting his power over her and putting her in a submissive position?”
Tammy turned with a smile and said, “Tim has shown respect towards her, and it is unlikely that he would ever do anything to harm her. However, there is a lingering question in my mind about whether he will be able to commit to keeping her in his life for the long term.”
Tim stood in anticipation at the observation deck, his eyes fixed on the approaching shuttle carrying Captain Latal. The spacecraft descended gracefully, kicking up dust as it made contact with the landing pad. The sound of engines slowly died down as the shuttle’s doors opened, revealing Captain Latal stepping out onto the platform.
She looked around and saw people starting to clean and check out her shuttlecraft. One approached her and asked, “You are Captain Latal, right?”
She nodded her head and wondered where this Colonel Tim was.
“Please follow me to the observation deck where Colonel Tim is eagerly awaiting your arrival. “ He turned and walked toward the lift.
Tim stood there and waited until she walked out of the lift and said, “Welcome aboard the Nortaris.” He moved his hand and arm sideways, revealing the view of the observation desk and the bay where her shuttle was located.
Latal turned to see a large group of men gathered around her shuttle. With a look of astonishment, she inquired, “Colonel, what is being done to my shuttle?”
Tim looked out to the shuttle bay area and said, “Those individuals are clones, tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that upon a shuttle’s arrival, they meticulously clear the exterior as though it were freshly minted.”
Latal creased her brow and looked closely at the people who were standing around her ship. “Colonel, it’s uncanny, but these bodies bear a striking resemblance to humans!” she said as she turned to face Tim. She felt a chill go down her spine as she thought about what this shocking discovery meant.
Along with a big smile, Tim said, “That’s exactly how they should look. Now, Why don’t we head over to the lounge area for a more comfortable setting to continue our conversation?” Gesturing towards the doorway with his hand, Tim led the way towards the designated area where they could converse in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Latal stood there for a moment longer, just to check out her shuttle. Then followed Tim. She emerged from the observation desk’s doorway. She paused in astonishment, realizing that the entire interior of the ship was a single, expansive space. She said, “Colonel!”
Tim stopped, turned toward her, and said, “Please call me Tim. What can I do for you now?”
She stood there, confused, and amazed, staring in different directions. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened in disbelief at the spectacle. The object before her caught her senses, making her attentively scrutinize every element with delight. Incredulous, she said, “Your ship is hollow!”
Latal glanced up at the towering structure that loomed in front of her, taking a moment to fully appreciate its impressive height. It was a remarkable four decks tall, each level intricately designed and contributing to the overall grandeur of the ship. As she assessed its strategic position within the vessel, she remarked thoughtfully, “It’s interesting to note that this structure is situated right in the middle of the ship, standing an impressive four decks tall.”
“No, that’s the engine and the generator.” Tim’s eyes scanned the massive structures that occupied the central space of the vessel. Its intricate network of gears and shafts glistened with a metallic sheen, a testament to the immense power coursing through its depths. Beside it hung the generator, its sleek exterior humming with a steady rhythm. Cables snaked across, connecting the two behemoths, and ensuring a constant flow of power and electricity throughout the ship.
Tim said, “Come along; we need to talk. It’s important that we discuss a few matters urgently. By the way, I wanted to let you know that a shuttle carrying our medical team is currently docking with your ship. They are there to assist with any medical needs and ensure everything is in order.”
On the Federation ship.
Mayio, expertly maneuvered her shuttle using retro rockets to carefully position it at the airlock of the Federation ship.
As the heavy metallic airlock creaked open with a hiss, two imposing clone soldiers stepped onto the interior of the Federation ship. They were greeted by the ship’s copilot, a seasoned veteran whose weary expression betrayed the toll of battles.
One of the clone soldiers, his voice steady and authoritative, addressed the copilot directly. “The Colonel sent us to assess your wounded personnel and provide any necessary assistance,” he stated firmly, emphasizing the urgency of their mission.
The copilot said, “Follow me.” And turned to walk away.
The clone, with an air of unwavering professionalism, said, “I apologize for the inconvenience, sir, but Doctor Madlyn will be with you.” His voice carried a hint of synthetic calmness.
Moments later, Doctor Madlyn stepped through the airlock doorway. With a sense of urgency and authority, she asked, “How many wounded do we have?” Her tone was crisp and focused, reflecting her extensive experience in emergency medical response.
The copilot turned back around and noticed Doctor Madlyn stepping through the doorway, her expression a mixture of determination and concern. She seemed to be bracing herself for the difficulties that were ahead as she stepped inside, pausing briefly to inhale deeply. Their gazes locked, and he smiled at her with a mix of urgency and camaraderie, trying to reassure her.
“Ma’am,” he said, his voice steady but laced with gravity, “there are two patients in particularly bad condition.” He gestured towards the makeshift triage area where the injured were being assessed.
Madlyn turned and said to Jeanne, “Have them bring two healing beds.” She turned back to the copilot and said, “Ok show me to the patience.”
The copilot turned and started down the hallway. Over his shoulder he says, “We have three others, but they are only walking wounded.”
“Please, the serious ones first. Jeanne will take care of the others.” As they stopped in front of the triage center. She signaled Jeanne to follow the copilot.
The healing beds was swiftly brought to Madlyn. The two Federation crew members, who had sustained injuries, were carefully placed inside the healing bed. Once securely positioned within the healing bed, the crew members were gently transported back to the SSG1.
Tim and Latal were sitting in the lounge when Tim asked, “How did you get this far away from your system?”
Latal turned around to face Tim, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. With a hint of curiosity in her voice, she said, “You know, I could easily pose the same question to you. It seems we both have our perspectives to share.”
Tim smiled back at her and said, “But I rescued you and asked first.”
Latal shrugged her shoulders in a gesture that conveyed both nonchalance and resignation before explaining, “We were part of a larger group tasked with escorting several ships belonging to Targkeleax.”
Our commander, a seasoned veteran of numerous engagements, assigned three of us the critical task of protecting the rear flank of our formation. This position was vital, as it shielded the Targkeleax ships from potential ambushes by hostile forces.
Only a few days into this action, we came under attack from about 80 pirate ships. To effectively dislodge the pirate vessels that had taken position near the Targkeleax sector, we executed a strategic maneuver. We decelerated rapidly to reduce our speed, then steered away from their line of attack in an attempt to create the illusion we were trying to get behind them. The ensuing battle raged on for two grueling days, marked by intense exchanges of fire and tactical repositioning.
Despite our best efforts, we were unable to prevent significant losses; tragically, our other two ships did not survive the encounter with the pirates. Additionally, during the conflict, we suffered damage to a portion of our navigation system, further complicating our ability to chart a safe course amidst the chaos.
Tim sat there, his expression a mixture of disbelief and confusion. He looked at Latal with wide eyes, trying to process the gravity of the situation. “So, you just flew off into the unknown,” he said slowly, attempting to wrap his mind around her actions. “What exactly did you hope would happen? Did you think someone would find you out there?”
Latal met his gaze with a calm yet determined look in her eyes. She took a deep breath before responding, “Well, it worked, didn’t it? I mean, here we are talking about it now.” Her tone was assertive, as if she were trying to convince both Tim and her.
“What will your next course of action be?”
Latal turned to him, her expression a mix of hope and desperation. “Is there any way you could help me repair my ship?” she inquired earnestly. “If you can assist with the repairs, I suppose I’ll do my best to find my way back home.”
Tabitha walked into the lounge and up to Tim. She asked, “Captain, what are we going to do about their ship?”
Tim looked at Latal and said, “This is Tabitha, my second in command.”
Latal stood up and extended her hand in a friendly gesture, shaking hands firmly with Tabitha. With a warm smile, she said, “It’s truly wonderful to meet you. May I ask how long you have been serving as the colonel’s second-in-command?”
Tabitha looked toward Tim to see if he wanted her to answer.”
Tim just nodded his head.
“For approximately six months now, ever since he intervened to save both my sister and me from the pirates.”
