Billy walked through the common area doorway and saw the members of his gang sitting around a table. He walked over to them and said, “Well, what happened to you?”

One stood and said, “Boss, we were taken to rooms and were kept there until about half an hour ago.”

“Why should I believe you? I’ve been searching for you for a day now. What did you do to find some females and spend the night with them?

Two others jumped up and said, “No, boss, he’s telling the truth.”

Billy looked around and saw that Tim was telling the truth; there were people walking around and doing the things everyday people would do. He thought, ‘Okay, I’ll play his game.’

He surveyed his surroundings to determine what options were available. A couple stood across the way, making out. He looked at the members and said, “The boss said we were not to hurt anyone. That would make it harder to do our job.”

They all stood and followed him across the area. As they neared the couple, Billy touched her buttocks and remarked, “I noticed ... you didn’t have your hand in the right area.”

The girl jumped as she felt the hand on her buttocks and said, “Get your hand off my ass!”

Billy smiled and said, “I’m sorry, that’s no way for a lady to talk.” Billy’s hand was still touching her behind.

She glanced over her shoulder, still feeling his hand on her ass. She said, “If you don’t remove your hand, I’ll break it for you!” She stared into his eyes.

Billy said, “Okay, bad girl,” without taking his hand off. “What are you going to do about it?”

She quickly turned around, grabbed his arm, and twisted it.

Billy was caught off guard and acted without thinking. He grabbed her hair and pulled it back. He twisted her around and pushed her against the wall, using her arm. He heard, “Remember, you are not to hurt the people here.” It was said in a whisper.

Billy was completely shocked. He leaned forward and next to her ear and asked, “How do you know about that?”

“Because Tim informed me of that, he sent me here to be your girlfriend,” she said.

Billy didn’t know what to do. He just stood there. He asked, “Hey, tough girl, what’s your name?”

To make him sound good, she let out a moan over her shoulder, as if he were hurting her. “Pauline, you are hurting me!”

“Okay, Pauline, if I let you go, you’ll behave?”

In a hurt and hard voice, she said, “Yes, now let me go?”

Billy released her and stepped back, waiting to see what she would do.

Pauline rubbed her arm and asked, “Do you always treat women that way?” as she straightened out her hair.

“No, only the ones I like.” He muttered, a slight smirk playing on his lips as he glanced at Pauline. “Now what is there to do around here?” His eyes started to scan the immediate surroundings with a playful glint in them. He shifted his weight, his gaze darting towards a bustling cafe across the common area.

He glanced toward Pauline and asked, “What is the deal over there?”

“Oh, tonight is chug-a-mug drink night.” She smiled at Billy with a mischievous glint in her eyes, the corners of her lips crinkling up with amusement. Then she turned toward the others, her voice a playful whisper. “Get ready to party, guys! It’s time to loosen up and get to know your friendly neighbors!”

She grabbed Billy’s arm and said, “Let’s go have fun.”

Billy let her pull him, not fully understanding what she was doing. They walked into the café and looked around. At the bar, there were two men with mugs of some sort of drink. The bartender said, “1... 2... 3 ... Drink!”

Excited fans shouted. Drink up! The boys held their full cups with stern, trembling gazes, the liquid spinning within, providing oblivion or delight, depending on who you asked. They kissed their mugs. The first drink was a quiet meditation before the plunge. Moaning, they drank the hot liquid. As the chorus started, a loud roar filled the room.

Billy kept his eyes on the scenes unfolding, recalling a game he had played. In that game, he enjoyed the thrill of winning. The morning brought a sense of anxiety and a dim memory of his triumph. The painful truth about the event left him wanting to erase those horrible memories from his mind.

One of the guys asked, “What’s in the drink?”

Pauline turned and said, “The ship’s captain doesn’t allow any kind of alcohol aboard this ship.” So, it’s a mix of nine different drinks.” She turned and said, “Watch the two drinkers.”

Emptying their glasses sent foamy liquid down their throats, like a desert monsoon. Empty cups are dropped. In the bar, a booming laugh broke the silence.

The one near the entrance gently whirled, deliberately humming. He raised his left foot. His wish to stop was evident. Two friends grab him before he falls.

Billy looked at Pauline and said, “I thought you said no alcohol?”

Pauline grinned and remarked, “That is not alcohol. They are on an instant, sweet high. If you consume nine in one drink, it’s advisable to do so quickly. Your system goes into a sweet high and shuts itself down.”

One of Billy’s guys asked, “Why isn’t the other guy falling over?”

Pauline said over her shoulder, “It’s because he’s locked into that position. In a few minutes, his friends will sit him down and keep an eye on him.”

One of Billy’s guys asked, “Boss, You do it! I think you can beat them.”

Billy thought about it and said, “Okay, I’ll go ahead and do it. It may help us get a foothold here.”

She strode up to the long wooden bar, its surface adorned with countless rings left by patrons’ mugs.

“I have a friend,” Pauline announced in a voice that carried, “who fancies himself a prodigious drinker. He boasts that he can vanquish any of you in this esteemed establishment.” A mischievous smile played on her lips as she paused, her gaze sweeping over the burly patrons who frequented the cafe.

“And I’ll wager 10 credits that he can do just that,” Pauline continued, her voice dripping with both challenge and amusement. “Do I have any takers who dare to test their mettle against my friend?”

The café fell silent as the patrons turned their attention to the newcomer and her audacious proclamation. Some scoffed at the notion, while others looked intrigued, eager to prove their worth. Pauline awaited a response from the assembled crowd.

From the back corner of the café came a voice saying. “I’ll take him on.” Everyone turned to see who had taken the challenge. The people open a pathway to let him come forward. As Pauline got a look at the challenger, she smiled.

A gust of laughter shook the gathering as he walked forward. They were seeing a tiny, 3-foot-tall, 60-pound person waddle with an eerie look. His single stride appeared to provoke new bursts of laughter.

Someone from the gathering said, “the mug is bigger than you!” and there was laughter.

“I do not see any of you big mouths, taking on this guy,” he stated as he stopped and turned to face the gathering.

Suddenly, the laughter subsided, and all eyes shifted to their neighbor. Someone once stated, “I will take the little guy and your ten credits.”

Pauline looked at the fellow and said, “You’re on.”

The bartender inquired as to how much each man weighed as the two men approached the bar. Billy asked, “Why do you need to know that?”

The bartender said, “The drinks are mixed according to your weight.”

Billy said, “225 lbs.” and the short fellow said, “61 lbs.”

The drinks were mixed and sat on the bar. Billy looked at the mugs and then at the bartender. “Hey, his mug is only half the size of mine; why?”

“His size is a mere quarter that of yours, so the answer is obvious.” The bartender turned and said, “These are the rules: once you start drinking, you can not stop until the mug is empty. Two: You must stand still for one minute. Three: If you get sick, you clean it up. Any questions?”

Both looked at each other and smiled. The bartender said, “Grab your mugs. Three, you started drinking.”

Both picked up their mugs and placed them against their lips. Billy’s eyes began to water at the first whiff of the drink. He examined the dark amber liquid. ‘This drink smells like urine,’ he grimaced.

A rhythmic counting broke the silence: ‘1, 2, 3!’ The voice was urgent. He tilted his head back, the odor intensifying as the liquid swirled in the glass. He had no choice. He had to swallow. He heard, “Drink, Drink, Drink.” The drink was like thick, heavy foam, causing him to almost choke.

He felt uncomfortable as he consumed half of the beverage. His stomach fought with its contents, unable to bear it. He spat up the foul-tasting liquid.

The little guy finished his drink, slammed the mug on the bar, and raised his hand. He stood there and waited until the drink hit him. “I finally won one,” he exclaimed as he collapsed.

The bartender handed Billy a rag and a bucket of water. He said, “Good try, not bad for a first-timer.”

Billy turner to his members and said, “You wanted me to try it. I do, now you clean it up.” Two of his members grabbed the rag and bucket and started to work.

The bartender said, “What’s your friend’s name, Pauline?”

Before she could answer the question, the doors to the café opened and three soldiers walked in. The one in the middle, raised her hand and said, “Someone reported a fight out in the commons. Does anyone know anything about it?”

Pauline looked over and saw her friend Sharon. She said, “Ma’am, if it was a guy who reported it, he’d be upset because I dumped him.” She walked toward her friend.

Once they were close, Pauline whispered, “What are you doing here?”

Sharon whispered back, “We are the turncoats!”

Pauline asked in a whisper, “How’s Tim doing?”

“He warned us to exercise the utmost caution,” Sharon explained. “To aid in our mission, we have brought along four cloaked probes. Additionally, Sarha is vigilantly monitoring all incoming and outgoing transmissions from this area, ensuring that any potential threats are promptly detected and countered.”

Pauline acknowledged Sharon’s words with a nod and turned to Billy. With the latter trailing closely behind, she purposefully strode towards Billy. As they approached Billy, Sharon whispered, “He looks good; how is he otherwise?”

Pauline whispered over her shoulder, “I don’t know.” The two stopped next to Billy, and Pauline said, “This is a dear friend, Sharon; she’s the commander on this part of the ship.”

Billy started to say something, and his phone began to vibrate in his pocket. With a strange look, he reached into his pocket and pulled it out. Looking at it with a surprised expression, he said, “I’ll have to take this!” as he walked away from Pauline.

“Yes,” is all he said.

“How are you doing?” the voice on the other end asked.

“We are doing better. I just made some friends, and I hope that tomorrow I’ll have some trouble starting. There seems to be a difference in the way this place is run. I’ll use that to our advantage.”

“That’s good; I need that ship distracted. I have something big for the feline kingdom.”

Billy thought, ‘Maybe I can help Tim.’ He asked, “Is there anything I can do to help? What’s going to happen?”

“You just do what you were told to do and don’t worry about anything else.” The phone was disconnected. Billy turned back to Pauline and Sharon and said, “Well, I guess. “ I’ll call it a night; the guys and I have a lot to do tomorrow.”

Lois heard a whispered discussion as she passed through the busy common area, which intrigued her. Intrigued, she turned to find out where the voice was coming from. The image of Queen Jaclyn appeared, and she said, “I need to talk with you.” The urgency in her tone hinted at a potentially important or serious matter that needed immediate attention. Lois couldn’t help but wonder about the nature of the impending conversation and its possible implications for the day ahead.

Lois inquired, “Do we have our conversation here or would you prefer to discuss it elsewhere?” She seemed unsure of the appropriate setting for their discussion.

“I would much rather it be in Tim’s office,” replied Queen Jaclyn, her image breaking up with a slight frown on her face. She had always found Tim’s office to be more conducive to productive discussions and decision-making.

Lois turned around, her gaze searching the room, before she addressed Sarah with a sense of urgency. “Sarah, could you please check if Tim is available? Queen Jaclyn needs to speak with him as soon as possible.” Lois’ tone conveyed the importance of the matter at hand, indicating that Queen Jaclyn’s request for Tim was not to be taken lightly.

A holographic image of Sarha appeared in front of Lois, stating, “Lois, Tim is currently in his office.” He requests your attendance as soon as possible to discuss whatever Queen Jaclyn needs.”

Lois entered Tim’s office. Standing behind a comfy leather chair next to Tim’s desk, she waited for Queen Jaclyn to arrive. Lois took a long breath to settle her anxieties and mentally prepare for what was to follow.

“I am sorry you have to go through this,” Tim said. “I will do my best to keep this meeting short. Please take a seat.”

Queen Jaclyn’s image appeared, standing beside Lois. “I’ll try to talk with you without using Lois, if that’s okay with you.”

Lois sat there looking at both of them, her eyes shifting back and forth between the two individuals in front of her.

“Tim, There are a large number of spaceships heading in this direction. A while back, they turned toward another system, and now they are heading toward us. We have calculated that they will enter our system within four weeks.”

Tim sat back in his chair and thought for a moment. He then asked, “How many of your spaceships are available”
