As he sat in his office, Tim pondered the nature of his telepathic abilities. The third person’s identity remained a mystery to him. But he could not stop thinking about SSG 2’s residents. “Sarha, could you call April?”
April instantly appeared a few feet away and said, “How may I be of service to you?”
“How many different groups of people are on decks 3 and 4?”
There are precisely four species. The Bhute, Vurid, Kuger, and Atanian peoples are also present.
“What kind of relationships does each group have with the others?”
“Every one of them has a governor, and once a cycle, all four of them, along with Kelly, get together to discuss anything that needs discussing.”
“Once Kelly gets back, I would like a meeting with all five.”
“It will be arranged; is there anything else?”
“Could you have an image of each along with some information about them?”
“I will have that information for you very soon. Anything else?”
“No, that will be all for now. Thank you.”
Tim spent the rest of the next two days checking out SSG 2’s decks and the other equipment and weapons. He didn’t realize what it was going to be like to command two ships.
Tim was taking a break in the SSG 2’s lounge when April appeared a few feet from him. “Tim, I am ready to send Kelly back, if you are?”
Connie walked into the lounge and looked toward Tim. She saw him and April talking. She walked over and said, “Am I missing something?”
Tim replied, “Okay, Connie, are you ready to return Kelly to her quarters?”
Connie turned and headed for the door. Over her shoulder, she said, “Yes, I’m on my way to the medical center now!”
A short time later, she walked into the center and approached Kelly’s bed. Two clones placed Kelly into her arms, and she vanished.
She materialized in Kelly’s living room, and Pauline lifted Kelly from her arms and headed to her bedroom, placed her on her bed.
Pauline turned to Connie and said, “I’ll stay here until I know she is alright. Then you may return for me.”
Connie nodded and disappeared, returning to SSG 1.
Pauline sat in a chair in the far corner. From there, she could watch Kelly. Kelly began to move, and Pauline instantly turned back into a spider.
Kelly stretched her arms and looked around, trying to remember when she went to bed. She thought she remembered someone or something in her living room. She sat up and thought about all that she had dreamed about. Then she said to herself, “No, bathroom first and then kitchen for food.”
Kelly opened the refrigerator and looked inside. She saw that it was empty. She knew she had only filled it up yesterday. Someone had gotten into her quarters and ate her food. She turned and stumped to the door with her fist doubled up. She opened the door and screamed at Mike, the guard. “Who came into my quarters and ate my food?”
Mike looked shocked, not having seen Kelly like this before. He tried to be calm. “Miss Kelly, no one has entered your quarters in the past three days.”
Kelly stood there with hands on her hips and asked, “What do you mean three days?”
“Miss Kelly, three days ago. You went with your sister and returned home feeling sick. You asked us to leave you alone. No one has entered your quarters.”
Kelly stood there with a puzzled look, knowing Mike would not lie to her. She said, “Sorry, Mike.” She turned and reentered her quarters, thinking about the three days.
She needed something to eat, picked up her fannypack from the sofa, and turned to go to the common market to get something to eat.
Pauline stood in the middle of Kelly’s living room and waved her arms, hoping the probe monitor was watching. The probe became visible and moved back and forth. Inform Pauline that someone has noticed her. A few minutes later, Connie appeared in front of Pauline. She grabbed her hand and headed back to SSG 1.
While waiting for Pauline and Connie, Tim sat in the lounge of SSG 1. Upon seeing their arrival, he rose to his feet, walked over, hugged Pauline and said, “I’ve missed you.”
Pauline kissed his cheek and said, “I’ve missed you too.” They returned to the table and sat.
Connie asked, “What’s next?”
“Well, a small group of us will be making our way to deck 3 in a few hours to introduce ourselves.”
Pauline asked, “Who will be going?”
“There will be you and me, along with Tabitha and a few of Mona’s friends.”
Connie looked at the door and said, “Speaking of Mona. Here she is now.”
Mona came to Tim’s table and asked, “You wanted to see me.”
Tim pointed to a chair and said, “Please, have a seat; I need your help.”
Mona sat and asked, “How can I help you? Shall I call you the great one ... Or is it still Tim?” She grinned.
“Boy, things move quickly on this ship. But to you, it’s Tim.”
“Okay, Tim.”
“Kindly dispatch three members of your team to lend me a hand. Eventually, I want to make it to SSG 2’s Decks 3 and 4. Allow me a few hours. I really hope that everything works well, but if anything goes wrong, I would like not to be the one to do damage. That is why it would be really appreciated if your team could provide us with shields.”
“How many will be in your party?” Mona asked.
“There will be Tabitha, Pauline and myself, along with your people.”
“Okay, I will have three volunteers ready when you want them.” she said as she got up and walked away.
Tim and Pauline sat together and discussed various topics for an hour. Tim asked. “Sarha, have Tabitha meet us at the MTS.”
Tim approached the MTS and saw Tabitha, Mona, and three of her friends waiting. He said, “Hello ladies, are we ready to meet our new shipmates?”
They all entered the MTS and emerged on SSG 2’s second deck. Then they proceeded to the lift. The lift door opened for the first time in over 900 years. Mona took the first steps outdoors and glanced around. As Tim, Tabitha, and Pauline walked out, one of Mona’s friends moved to each side, with the last one shielding their backs.
Over their heads were four cloaked probes, mainly for recording the happenings, but they could, if needed, fire lasers. The group walked the corridors, knowing they were in the same pattern as SSG 1. They came around a corner, and a small person saw them and started to scream and run away. As they turned the next corner, there stood two large males.
Tim gazed at them, lifted his hand to show no weapons, and said, “We are looking for your leader. We do not mean no harm.”
One man motioned for the other to fetch Kelly. He remained there, staring at these foreigners, having never seen them in their homeland before.
Mona’s friend from the back said, “Tim, I have three individuals approaching.”
Without turning his head, he said, “Rear only, raise your shield.” at that time, she raised her shield. They stood there, waiting for Kelly to show up.
A man came up to the man, who had stayed and said something. He looked at him, then turned toward Tim’s group and waved his hand for them to follow him. The two men turned and walked toward the common marketplace. They walked into the common marketplace and saw Kelly on the other side of the area.
Kelly stood and, with a surprised look, stared at these new people. She thought, ‘Was this what her dreams were about?’ She spoke and asked, “Who are you, and where did you come from?”
Tim doesn’t want to jump right in and start to tell her what to do. He knew he would have to do this gently. Tim asked, “Could I come closer?”
She replied, “No, I don’t know you. You are not one of our tribes.” The people began to gather around to protect her. The common area began to fill with people, but from only two tribes.
In a loud voice, Tim said, “Kelly, you know that we are from the people who own this ship.”
The people stopped and looked at Kelly. She looked at them and said, “I don’t think that’s right. This is our land; it’s not a ship. Whatever you called it,”
Tim had to think about it: “She’s got to remember the dream.”
Tabitha moved closer to Tim and whispered, “Tim, remember, her whole life is here, and all the true memories are about this place. She has only had what April fed her.”
The details they had given with the family on that other planet suddenly came back to Tim. Tim replied, “Kelly, we are from the other side of this planet.” As Tim spoke, a door opened behind them. Out walked two large males. In a deep voice, one asked, “Miss Kelly, are you having a problem here?”
“No, Roy, these are people from the other side of this land.” She replied.
Tim turned to see what these males looked like.
“If you need help, just say so and we are here,” the shorter of the two said. At six feet tall or thereabouts, Tim saw that he was the shortest of the two. The second one was just over eleven feet tall and had door-wide shoulders. Stepping inside the room, he dipped his head.
They stood just inside the doorway and waited to see what was going on.
Tim looked at Kelly and saw that her face showed confusion. She must be thinking of her dreams. She asked, “If you are from the other side, why are you different?”
“We are no different than your people here.” Tim looked around and saw the four different species standing in the room.
“But these are my people; we are the same.”
Tim said, “And these are my people; we have traveled far to see what this land holds.”
Kelly moved closer. She was vaguely recalling an image in her head—an image of a race that used to govern this land. With a surprised look, she said, “You are the one who used to be here. Where did you go?”
Tim now knew she was recalling her dreams. At least he hoped so. “We are on the other side.”
Kelly pointed toward Tim and said, “You and you alone, come with me.” She turned to the ones standing around and said, “They are not to leave this area. Did I make myself clear?”
Tim turned to Tabitha and, in a low voice, said, “Be very careful, and if you need to fight, it will be okay!”
Tim began to follow Kelly. They left the common area and headed toward the rear of the ship. At least that is what Tim was hoping. “Where are we going?” Asked Tim. Kelly didn’t answer; she just kept walking. Every once in a while, she checked to see if someone was following beside Tim.
As Tim walked, he noticed that the areas surrounding this part of the ship were basically the same as SSG 1. But ahead of him, he saw a large wall. He thought, ’There is no wall like this on SSG 1, what is on the other side?’
They walked to the wall, and Kelly stopped. She turned and looked at Tim. She said, “I know what you did to me. It was not a dream, but it did bring back memories of the past. No one can pass this wall without a key.” Kelly began pulling the necklace over her head; on the bottom end was a key card.
Bringing it up to her lips, she whispered that the item had been passed down through many generations. Until the owners returned, no one in my family was allowed to use it. She handed it to Tim.
Tim was surprised by what was just revealed. Taking the key card and searching for a slot. It took a few minutes to find where it was. He slipped it in and waited. A door began to open slowly. Kelly and he walked through the doorway and stood there, staring at three cryogenic chambers set up along the left side of the wall.

“April, please appear!” Kelly said, surprising Tim?
April appeared next to the chambers and said, “May I help you?”
Tim, still surprised, turned to April, and asked, “Who are these people?”
April said, “This is the last captain, his wife and child.”
“Why are they here?” he asked.
“Because the captain wanted to see what life was like in one hundred years. But he did not want to be alone. So, he talked his wife and son into joining him.”
“How did the other members of the crew feel about that?”
“The captain never told them. Decks 3 and 4 were to remain off-limits to the crew at all times. That has followed all crews since.”
“This wall is not the same as on SSG 1. Why?”
“The captain had the clones build it. He didn’t want anyone to know what his plans were. So, he struck a deal with a family that possessed a special power that no one else was aware of, and he established them as leaders. They would always be the leaders. Once everything was finished and checked out, he gave the key card to the leader and said, “Only unlock it when the owners come back.”
Tim looked at Kelly and asked, “What are your special powers?”
“That I do not know. The only thing is that sometimes I can hear voices in my head. They tell me what that individual is going to do.”
“So, that is how you stay the leader. By knowing what someone is thinking, you can find a way around it.”
“I believe so, just as I heard your voice as you came from the lift. It was the first time that machine had ever worked.”
“You heard my words, but I didn’t say a thing.”
Kelly looked at Tim and, in an angry voice, asked, “What do you mean, she is the third?”
Tim stood there, and he didn’t know what to say. Queen Jaclyn was right; he would have to learn how to control his thoughts. “I didn’t mean anything by my thoughts. And the answer to your question is: You are the third person who can read my mind.”
Kelly is still angry. “What are you talking about, reading your mind? I cannot read your mind. You talk, Crazy.”
“Let’s get back to the former captain and his family.” He turned back to April and asked, “Are they still alive?”
“Yes. What would you like to do with them?”
“Can we keep them just like they are now?” Tim was worried about what the old captain would want.
“Yes, they can stay like this for as long as you wish.”
Tim turned back to Kelly and said, “The first thing we need to do is get to know you and your people.”
“I will call a governor meeting for later; is that okay?” Kelly started toward the door.
Tim followed her out, turned and locked the door. He turned and handed her back the key. He said, “Your family has held it all this time; you had better keep it.” They both headed back to the common marketplace.
Kelly asked as they walked, “How will this change our lives?” She had a worried look.
“Hopefully, nothing will change. You will still be the leader, as will the others. This could still be their land.”
With a surprised look, Kelly turned to Tim and said, “You mean, you would not try to tell my people that all these years, they have been lied to? This is a spaceship, and they have no home.”
“They have a home. It’s right here, and nothing will change that. Little by little, you can bring them into this new knowledge.”
“At this meeting, what will you tell them?”
“I will tell them that we are from the other side of your land, and that we have traveled here to see how this side lives.”
“What if they want to see your side?”
“We’ll tell them that that is far away and takes a long time to get there. But if the leader allows it, we will make the way possible.”
As they walked back into the common marketplace, they saw that Pauline and the others were sitting at a table and talking with the people.
Tim walked over to Pauline and asked, “How are things going?”
“We have been talking, and keeping with what we heard you say about being from the other side, we kept it very simple, not going into any details.”
“Thanks, we need to keep it simple.” Tim said as he sat next to Pauline.
“Well, what did she have to show you?” Pauline asked.
“I’ll tell you later for now, we’ll just say it been a long time coming.”
Kelly called a meeting of the four governors and told them she needed them to meet the people from the other side of their land. Has they entered, she introduce them.
Although Tim remembered just the two adult males, Jack, and Roy, he didn’t recall two ladies, Alice and Susie. At the table, they shared stories and insights with one another. The thought of discovering more of this continent aroused their interest.
Tim thought for a moment and then said, “Tomorrow, I will lead you to another section of this land.” Tim stood and said, “I need to check on something. My group and I will be back tomorrow, and I believe you may enjoy what I have to show you.”
They were heading to the lift when Kelly decided to follow along. As Tim turned to face Kelly, he apologized but insisted that the lift would be shut down until they heard anything about how your people felt about today’s encounter.
Seated in the captain’s chair of the SSG 2, Tim began looking at the console.
“April, if you could provide me with any details on your prior captain, I would really appreciate it.”
“Tim, He became captain after his father died; he was only eighteen. He was the captain for twenty-five years. The whole time, he hated the job.
Despite his reluctance and sometimes poor decision-making, he became a total dominance person. Despite his flaws, the captain’s leadership was still respected by the crew due to his long tenure as captain and the loyalty they felt toward his family. However, as time went on, his abusive behavior became more pronounced, making it difficult for the crew to work with him effectively.
“What is his name?”
“Captain John. His wife is Melanic, and his son is Bob. Bob, who is seventeen and was set to inherit the captaincy, was starting to show signs of following in his father’s footsteps. His family’s influence on him was evident, as Bob was often seen mimicking his father’s abusive style.
“I have a question. By his actions, would you conclude that he intends to attempt to reclaim the ship?
Given all of his negative traits, I would give him and his son an 85% chance of attempting to take back the captain’s chair.
With that thought, Tim sat back in the seat. He now had to decide whether to take them out and see if they changed. Or leave them where they are. Being a kindhearted person that he was, he would take them out and see, hoping they were changed.
2
After returning to SSG 1, Tim went to his office. As he stared out into nowhere, he was thinking about Captain John and his family.
Tim asked Sarha, “Could you call Shanae and ask her to come to my office? When she gets here, ask April to join us.”
Tim sat there, trying to figure out how to handle this. He didn’t want to just leave Captain John and his family in the cryogenic containers. On the other hand, if he allowed him loose and he wanted to resume his role as captain, did he have the right to say no? Could he tell him that he and his family would be guests and nothing more? Or did he turn the bridge over to him and allow them to go on their merry way?
If he turned the ship over, who would be the crew and the ones on decks 3 and 4? What would happen to them? And how would Kelly feel about his authoritarian behavior? There are so many questions.
A knock, and Shanae walked inside. “Tim, you wanted to see me?” as she walked toward his desk.
“Yes, I need advice, both military and legal.” He gestured toward a seat. Shanae sat there, and April appeared beside her.
Shanae thought for a moment and then said, “My legal knowledge hasn’t been updated in over five hundred years. On the other hand, military tactics are timeless. Give me some details about how I may help you.”
“Okay, Kelly showed me that on deck 2, there is a wall. Behind that wall are the former captain and his family. They are in cryogenic containers. They have been there for over 900 years. This is the tricky part: what should I do if I free them, and he demands the captain’s chair back? Should I return it to him or retain it for myself?”
“I need to gather some information before I can respond to your inquiry. To begin, how often did Sarha remind you that you were only given so much authority over this ship?”
Tim said, “Sarha, could you appear?”
Sarha appeared on the other side of Shanae. “What do you need?”
“Did either of you put any restrictions on Tim’s role as captain?” While looking back and forth between them, Shanae asked.
Sarha looked at Shanae and said, “Tim is the captain of this ship, and there are no limits on that.”
“When Tim saved me and replaced the boards that were needed in my system, I gave him the title of captain, knowing he would be captain of both SSG 1 and SSG 2,” April remarked and then said. “There are no limits.”
“How would you respond if your former captain demanded the return of his ship?” As she turned to face April, Shanae questioned her.
Looking across at Tim, April said, “Did you grant him the authority to serve as captain?”
“Would that make a difference?” Tim asked.
“You are the captain, I assured you. The next captain’s identity is something only you can reveal to me.”
“But he was your last captain, right?”
“Indeed, the moment he stepped into that cryogenic container, he relinquished all rights to be my captain.”
Tim took a moment to think. Looking at April and saying, “What if he tried to force his way into the position?”
“My words will reverberate. Anyone who tries to take over my ship without your knowledge or permission will not be allowed to stay aboard. You are the captain.”
“Thank you, April; I now know how you feel. Your former captain is now Mr. John.” Tim stated.
Now that everyone had gone, Tim felt more confident about how he would handle the former captain. But first, he needed to show Kelly and her governors their new land. He walked from SSG 1 to SSG 2, then headed for the bridge. As he stepped from the lift, April was standing by the captain’s chair.
She pointed to the chair and said, “Tim, this is yours and only yours.”
Tim walked over and sat down and asked, “April, do you have clones that I might use for a while?”
“Tim, there are, at this moment, 1,233 clones available for your use. Tell me what you want them to do?”
“I need clones to be on deck 5, all over the place. They are to assist the people on decks 3 and 4. Their jobs will be to keep them safe and answer their question about deck 5. To the people from decks 3 and 4, this place is called deck 5 land.
Tim heard a voice in his head: Tim, are you nearby?
Tim thought, Yes, I’ll be with you in a few minutes. Kelly, could you have your four governors close by when I get there?
April said, “I have clones on the way, and more will be going and leaving the whole time.”
Tim got up and headed toward the lift. As the door opened and he stepped from the lift onto deck 3, Kelly and the other four were there, waiting.
As he stepped from the doorway, Roy tried to look inside to see if there was anything in there. Tim turned and said, “You’ll get to see inside in a moment.” He turned back to the others and said, “What I am about to show you is what we from the other lands call deck 5 land. This doorway allows you to get there.”
“You step up to it and say, Deck 5, and the door will open. We’ll step inside.” Tim turned and stepped back into the lift. Allowing everyone to follow. The door started to close, and Jack said in an ear-piercing voice, “Stop! I don’t like this. This is too small; I want out.”
Everyone covered their ears. Tim said, “April, stop. Open the door.” He stepped out of the lift and allowed Jack to be free.
Jack stepped from the lift and straightened up. “I feel much better. Thank you. I am sorry; my body needs space.”
“Jack, you will discover that the wall has parted and that there is a staircase heading up from your location. Please take it up to deck 5 land. We’ll meet up there.”
Jack turned and hurried away. Tim stepped back into the lift, and the door closed. In his head, he heard, Who is April, and where is she? Kelly turned toward Tim and smiled.
Before Tim could answer, the door opened and there was a gasp from the five. As they stepped from the lift, they saw other people wondering around. They looked and dressed like Tim. One walked up to the group and said, “Welcome to Deck 5 Entertainment Land. Any of us will be able to answer any question about our entertainment land. Our knowledge only deals with this area and nothing else.”
Tim turned to the guy and said, “I have a friend coming from the stairway.”
“Yes, sir, you are talking about Mr. Jack. A very nice gentleman. He is being shown this way. In fact, here he is now.”
Everyone turned and saw Jack, with a small woman holding his hand and pulling him toward them. Kelly said in a low voice, “That’s so cute—a nine-foot male being led around by a four-foot woman.”
The woman stopped in front of Tim and said, “I believe this one belongs to you?” Allowing her hand to drop his. She looked up into his face and said, “Remember, if you get lost, just ask for me’me.” She turned and walked away.
Jack looked at everyone and said, “I don’t want to hear one word.” He stared at each of them, then looked at Tim. “Will that be our way of getting up here?”
“Yes, it is for your people, their way up here from your area. Someone will always be there to help or answer any questions.” He turned back to the guy and asked, “Could you please be the guide and show these people around?”
The guy turned to the group and said, “Please call me Ken, if Miss Kelly, Miss Alice, and Miss Susie and Jack and Roy will follow me. I will show you around, if for any reason, you have a question. I mean, if you have any questions, please stop me. I will answer as best I can. And if I can’t answer, it’s a question for the gods. If you have a god, I’m not saying there is or isn’t a god.”
“Before we go, would you like something to drink along the way?”
“Sorry, I didn’t bring any of our trade coins along. Maybe next time.” Replied Susie.
“That’s alright; the food and drinks here are free. All we ask is that you put them in a container when finished.”
“Well, since they are free, okay.”
Two women brought the drinks to them. Ken said, “Before you take a drink, I must warn you: these are called ice freezes. They will cause your brains to freeze. If you take a little sip at a time, you will be okay. But if you take a big drink, you will think your brain is freezing.
The five took a small sip and felt a chill go through their bodies. They laughed about the chill and how sweet the taste was.
Alice decided to take a big drink, just to see what Ken was talking about. She tilted her head back and took a mouthful of the iced drink. Once the ice hit the roof of her mouth, it started.
Alice squeezed her eyes shut. She spread her lips apart while at the same time clenching her teeth together. Placing her hands on her temple and pushing hard against her head. All the while letting out an eerie sound. Everyone else just looked at her. Ken said, “That’s brain freeze. She’ll be okay in a minute.”
Tim left the group on Deck 5 and returned to Deck 2. He considered his next move when approaching the wall, as well as what to say to the former captain. “April, could you open the door, please?”
The door opened, and Tim walked over to the captain’s container and stood there, looking at him. He wondered how the captain was going to take it. “April, how long will it take to revive just the captain?”
“Tim, he will be able to talk to you in six hours,” she said. “Would you like for me to start now?”
“Yes, please.” Out of the corner of his eyes, doors started opening. Out of these doors came nurses, all dressed in the standard white uniform. There were six total; each approached a control panel and began pressing buttons.
“Tim, what are we to do with the others?” April asked.
“In an hour, start reviving them.” Tim spoke as he made his way back to the door.
April replied, “I’ll call you an hour before; if there are any problems, I’ll call.”
Along the way, Tim spoke with different people and found that they were just like the ones on his ship.
Five hours later, the door swung open as Tim approached the wall. He approached the container where the captain was lying.
A clone nurse stood beside the container and said, “Sir, we are ready to open.” as she pressed the buttons Tim stood and watched as the lid opened.
