Chapter 6

Things at work evolved into being somewhat of a routine for Kyle. There was no turnover among his therapists and because he knew what they could do caused him not needing to be doing close supervision of them in performing their duties. He thought he could add to their knowledge by having a short meeting with them early one morning to introduce them to the use of infrared lamps. Kyle told them it was a pain-free treatment used to enhance blood flow, speed up recovery time, and an ideal way to warm the tissue before treatment. He mentioned that some people advocate the use of cold packs but the only time he would use them was immediately after a sprain or strain to control the swelling.

Kyle said next week they would discuss ultrasound treatment and when and how it should be used.

He had phoned Emma about going out but the responses she was giving him were telling him that he shouldn’t be bothering her. For some reason, it seemed to him that she didn’t enjoy his company anymore. Later he was informed that she had gotten engaged to a long-time boyfriend.

Kyle was doing his Saturday jog and more often than not would be joined by Isla. A few times they discussed their plans for the day and when both of them didn’t have anything specifically planned he asked her if she could show him some of the more popular and beautiful places of this country.

She was happy to do that and after doing a drive she showed him where some of the big wave areas were that attracted surfboarders, the rain forest, beautiful waterfalls, and one time took him to the top of a dormant volcano. What followed that sightseeing usually was Kyle having dinner with her and then later bedding her. He will say she must have been reading some books or watching some porn on the internet because in a short time she was not a novice in making love. He loved the enthusiasm she displayed when they engaged in this intimate activity.

He was doing zoom calls with his parents about every two weeks. There was nothing that occurred out of the ordinary in doing these calls until they told him they had made plans to fly down during his Easter vacation. He welcomed them coming and after the call ended he thought about what could be done and what needed to be done for their upcoming visit. He per his habit started writing things down he needed to consider doing.

At work one morning Kyle saw that there was an envelope addressed to him and that it came from the office of the Minister of Health. Opening the envelope he found that it contained a note. The note was short and sweet and simply said: “Please join us for Carnival or what is called Mardi Gras and some call it Fat Tuesday” and gave the date and time at the country club. Elena signed the note. He wasn’t sure who the “us” were but he thought while this seemed to be an invitation it could also be a summons.

On the night of Fat Tuesday at the club, Kyle could see that it appeared to be a sellout crowd. He gave his name to the gatekeeper at the entrance to the dining room and one of the busboys led him to his assigned table. At the table were the same people he had dined with Christmas day. He greeted them all and thanked them for the invitation.

Kyle jokingly said, “If I was to tell my parents, brother, or my friends who I dined with on Christmas Day and now on Carnival, they wouldn’t believe me and think I was crazy.”

They all laughed at his comment and welcomed him. There were some questions as a follow up to his prior statement in him wanting to go and see some of the beautiful places in this country. He could see a little surprised look on their faces when he mentioned the places he had visited. They must have thought he was giving them a line when he said what he was going to do.

The President asked Kyle if he watched sports and if so what was his favorite?”

“That is sort of a sore point with me, sir. I do watch sports but I stopped watching the NBA because some of the owners and a few of the coaches have no problems expressing negative opinions on the politicians in Washington yet they go completely silent on the human rights abuses occurring in China. I also don’t appreciate hearing some of the players who are extremely wealthy and live in multi-million dollar houses telling me about the rough life they have had and that it’s my attitude that needs to change. But to answer your question, ice hockey is now my favorite sport because of the fast action.”

“That is my favorite sport too.” said the President.

They both discussed the sport and agreed it was the only sport in which some penalties are not fully explained like when is cross-checking cross-checking, boarding boarding, and when is fighting fighting. They laugh when they said there has never been an explanation given when a linesman excuses a player from a faceoff as to what the player did to cause that.

The talk continued during the meal. Kyle knew that a person was considered to be a good conversationalist if they really didn’t say anything and just encouraged the other person to talk. Because of that, he asked the people there many questions about the country and their families.

He was not surprised when he heard music start after the meal. The music was not being provided by a DJ but was coming from a six-piece band. Kyle thought it must be the established protocol because the President and his wife left the table to do the first dance. They were followed after a half minute later by the Minister of Finance and then other people joined them.

Kyle looked at Elena and gave her a nod of his head and they both rose to go to the dance floor. He hoped the few dance lessons he had been getting from Isla would now pay off. She had been giving him dance lessons in return for him giving her what she referred to as sex lessons. He knew he didn’t need any payback for his doing that but it was an opportunity to improve this skill which would put him a leg up on his competition.

Dancing with Elena was nice and she easily followed his lead. She complimented him telling him he was a good dancer but he corrected her saying she was the good dancer who was making him look good. He danced three dances with her before they went back to the table. The last dance was to a song with a slow tempo and with her in his arms and her breasts slightly touching him along with the scent of her perfume made it quite enjoyable.

Back at the table, he mentioned to her that his parents were going to be visiting with him when they have the Easter vacation. He told her he was looking forward to them doing that and he was planning what they would be doing but said there was one problem. She asked him what that was and he told her his parents getting in and out of a jeep was something he would like to avoid them doing. He asked her if he could borrow a four-door sedan for that week.

Elena said that was no problem and she would have someone contact him to do that.

He asked her to dance more and she accepted. He while dancing with her he was considering asking her to dinner or going out together but he realized they were from two different social classes in life and she was way way over him. Because of that, he didn’t want to embarrass himself with her refusing which had him take a pass on asking her out.

What made it an interesting week started on Wednesday when he received a call from Lorena Pena. She said her hip was bothering her a little and wondered if she could have a session with him this Saturday. He told her that was possible and they agreed on a mid-morning time.

He was early at the facility and had set up the fake clock nanny cam. He didn’t think there was a need for it but then again he wanted to be safe rather than sorry.
