The Seraphim is the second story I am posting. My story Isiah was the first I’ve ever written anything of this type. (of any kind). The reception, I must admit, was more than a little startling. The number of positive responses I received was far beyond encouraging. There were some obvious criticisms. Namely, the romantics hoped the couple would eventually get together and that I needed an editor. I took the same character, Isiah, and used him again. His personality is more abrasive, but his heart is still in the right place.
It’s a story about love, lost love, and eternal love. There is violence, shit talk, insults, a fair amount of heresy, and a smidgen or two of taboo. The theme in this story stems from an idle curiosity about religious stories and how I would write them if I were the author.
Despite my ability to write fantasy violence, I am incapable of putting myself in the proper frame of mind to write sexual violence against a woman. I’ve tried to write it into chapter one, and I couldn’t bring myself to write anything later for several days. Eventually, I toned it down but decided it couldn’t be an ongoing theme. There is a rape scene a few chapters in, and it lasts for only a few sentences. Hopefully, you won’t hold that against me. Explicit sex, although implied, isn’t significant for several chapters, and if you are patient with my story’s pace, it will eventually become a much larger theme.
A few of my chapters incorporate historical fiction by inserting Isiah and Lauren into the period. Suppose you are ever in a position where you need to write or learn about various historical periods. In that case, I encourage you to write a fictional character into it or imagine yourself as a protagonist. It helps tremendously. The more I did it, the more I looked forward to my research.
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoy writing it. I expect I will be slowly adding to this story for quite a while.
