The following weeks at work resulted in Paul returning to what he would consider was a normal routine for him. Ordering echocardiograms, stress tests, and reading those tests along with requesting blood work for various reasons as well as renewing, increasing, or changing prescription medications were primarily what he did with his patients.
The office in Lake Lancer was ready for its opening and there were full days of appointments. Paul was at that office early in the morning and Beverly introduced him to Cindy Harman the nurse and Diana Baldwin the clerk/receptionist. Paul gave them a little pep talk on what he expected and how he wanted them to conduct themselves with the patients. Beverly said she had talked with Carol and if became necessary the main office could provide backup help.
At the end of the day, Paul and Beverly agreed it had been a productive day with no major problems. Beverly said the three days Paul said he would be working was completely full of appointments for at least the next four weeks and beyond. There were also some appointments for Mark for the other two days. Only a few of Paul’s patients preferred not to make the drive to this new location but that was offset by the patients of the other doctors who did prefer to come to this location.
On Thursday the property closings occurred on Paul selling his home and after that on purchasing the condo. Paul came out ahead in this transaction and planned to endorse the draft for the overage to be deposited into his brokerage account. Nick told Paul he was scheduled to move on Monday.
After everyone left the room Marci and Paul stayed behind for a few minutes. She gave him the amendments to his trust which he signed and she notarized.
Paul had told Caroline about this scheduled closing. When Caroline was told it had occurred she said the painters would be at the condo Tuesday and was scheduling the move to occur Friday. Her ladies needed to stop buy Thursday at Paul’s house to do things in preparation for the move. She suggested that Paul be gone all day Friday.
On Friday Paul gave a set of keys for his house and condo along with the entry code to the condo to Caroline and decided to head to the club for the day. At the club, he had a leisurely breakfast by himself and took his time and read the morning paper slowly one page at a time. Having done that he thought he would play a round of golf. He had never golf on a weekday at the club and this would be a first for him.
At the pro shop, he was told the first tee was open and he could tee off when he wanted. He was doing some stretching exercises at the tee before he teed off when another cart with a single golfer pulled up and asked if she could join him.
That golfer was Trish Simon the assistant club manager. She is in his opinion was one good looking woman. He didn’t know how well she golfed but with her looks, he didn’t care. Just being with her for a round of golf would make for an enjoyable day. He told her he would love for her to join him and asked her to put her golf bag on his cart. As she was doing this he was admiring her fine figure which was highlighted by the light blue pullover and tan slacks that fit her just right.
Paul played off the white tees and Trish played off the red tees. In watching her tee off and seeing her swing the golf club he could see she was not a novice in playing the game of golf. Her tee shot was right down the middle and close to two hundred yards.
During the round besides talking about golf, they covered many subjects. Trish said she golfs when there is a break in her schedule. She needed to stay late tonight and moderate the trivia game because the regular moderator for some personal reasons had canceled out.
Paul mentioned that he had heard she was recently divorced and told her that was a good thing. She asked him why he would say something like that. He told her that if her ex didn’t know what he had in her, that showed he either had an IQ of room temperature or he was blind. Paul said she deserved someone who would appreciate the attractive and intelligent woman she was. He could see his remark caused her to blush and she thanked him for saying those nice words.
At the end of the round, Paul asked Trish if she would join him for a late lunch and she accepted the invite.
It was a nice lunch at which a few subjects were discussed. Paul told her about why he was spending the whole day at the club because of his move and where he was moving to and why. She mentioned some of the current happenings at the club and the number of new members who had recently joined. She said there was some consideration being given to establishing a cap on membership which in turn would generate a waiting list for membership. Trish also mentioned the LPGA would like to hold a tournament at the club but so far had not found a sponsor to do this.
When the lunch was over Trish said she had a very enjoyable time. Paul said that he did too and enjoyed her company. She said maybe they could do something like this again whether it is lunch or dinner.
“You wouldn’t mind going to dinner with an old man?” said Paul.
“Age is just a state of mind and I don’t consider you to be old,” said Trish as she said her goodbye and left.
He watched her nice backside walk away and thought her ex was really dumb. A woman like Trish do not grow on trees. His talk with her gave Paul something to think about on his drive to Lake Lancer. He couldn’t help but wonder what kind of a lover she would be if he was so lucky for that to happen. He suspected that she would be pretty good.
Paul was pulling into the lower level parking for the residents at the condo and thought he saw the mover’s truck pulling away. He was now anxious to see how his condo looked.
Walking into the condo he couldn’t help but be a little surprised. Everything seemed to be put away and there were no boxes he could see that were laying around. Opening a few drawers and cabinets he saw that they contained the same items they had when they were in his house. He opened the door to the large top-of-the-line refrigerator and it looked like it did as it did at his house with the items there. Taking a cold beer from the refrigerator he opened it and continued his tour checking out all the rooms. Everything had been put away and the bed was made. He had no complaints.
Putting a frozen pizza in the oven he sat on a chair on the balcony and took in the nice view it afforded him. He couldn’t help but think Emily would have enjoyed this condo and the view.
On Saturday morning he looked at his food supplies as well as his household items and made up a list. Before stopping at the food store which was just off the main drag he decided to go for a drive around this town since he was unfamiliar with it. The drive that went around the lake was scenic and he could see some boats on the lake pulling water skiers. He noticed the building which the sign in front of it said it was the Wilkinsing Foundation. He couldn’t give an opinion of how good the education system was at Lake Lancer but excluding that, the town seemed like a nice place to live and raise a family.
Having purchased the necessary items he was back at his condo putting his purchases away.
Sitting on his balcony taking in the nice scene it afforded him he received a text message from his son-in-law. The message said that Paul’s daughter Stephanie had gone into labor. That evening Paul received another text message telling him that he was a grandfather again because of the healthy baby girl that was born who was being named Emily. Seeing that shook Paul up a little and he responded saying congratulations and that he will be down soon to see the new Emily.
Monday morning Paul was dressed and ready to go to work. Exiting his condo and walking to the elevator he observed two women standing there waiting for the elevator. One was a young lady who seemed a few years out of college along with an older lady who was around Paul’s age. He also noticed that this young lady had a brace on one of her legs and had a cane in her hand which helped her to walk.
