Chapter 1

Bob is a junior in high school, and it is currently 1970. In six months, he will begin taking college classes. It seems he is not finding his lessons challenging, even though they are meant for advanced placement students.

Bob is a young man who stands at a relatively average height of around 5 feet 9 inches (175.3 centimeters) and weighs about 176 pounds (79.8 kilograms). Susie was surprised by the blood in the toilet. She needed to tell her parents what had happened and have them fix it. Susie had to tell her dad about the blood because he was home and her mom was at work. She found him in his office, staring at the computer screen. She said, “Dad, I am bleeding from my vagina.”

He looked at her and stated, “You have started your monthly flow. Do you know what that is?” She shook her head, indicating no. “It is called the menstrual cycle. The ovaries are a pair of reproductive glands located in the pelvic region of the female body. He continued, “The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of menstruation and ends on the day before the next menstruation begins. He said, “It is important to note that the menstrual cycle differs from the menstrual period. The menstrual cycle refers to the hormonal and physical changes in the body in preparation for pregnancy. In contrast, the menstrual period refers to the shedding of the uterine lining and accompanying bleeding.”

He got one of Mom’s tampons and showed it to me. I looked at him and asked, “What is that?”

He says, “It is a Tampon, and you use it to absorb the blood from your flow or menstrual cycle. Let’s go to the bathroom, and I will examine you to make sure that is what is wrong with you.”

Susie asked him, “How do I use it?” as they proceeded to the bathroom.

He took me to the bathroom and said, “Take off all of your clothes, and I will inspect you.”

Not knowing any better, Susie did as he told me to. Once she was nude, he told her to stand on the toilet and gave her a hand up to stand in the bathroom. He examined every square inch of her body, and as he did, he said, “You have started puberty.” He proceeded to show her how to insert the tampon but said, “I will start treating you as a woman.” He inserted the tampon into her and stopped the flow.
