Chapter 12: GEORGE

George Long arrived in Paris worried. He hadn’t heard from Margaret in months and his daughter, Amy, had recently disappeared leaving only a note behind. Margaret had been sent to Europe on what was to have been a training mission. Nothing serious — just a little reconnaissance here and there. She was good, very good. So, the agency had decided to send her on a more difficult mission. She was to discover what had happened to an embedded source that had suddenly gone silent.

No one, least of all George Long, expected her to take Amy along. George was even more apoplectic when he learned that Amy unknowingly tagged along on every mission.

George had sent a team of two agents to France when the Sureté had notified Interpol that Margaret had gone missing after visiting an art museum in eastern Europe. They team found nothing. So, they were reassigned to look after Amy discreetly in hopes that she might lead them to Margaret.

The agents found Margaret and Amy with a third blond woman at the Bon Temps bistro by luck. They were able to get a picture of the blond woman before they were spotted by the girls. Unfortunately, they remained in the bistro too long after the girls had left and lost them.

George alerted the embassy staff and guards to be on the lookout for the three women. Pictures of the girls were posted at each embassy entry and guard house. The marines had instructions to bring the girls immediately to the cultural attaché’s office if they were to show up.

He set up a command post in the cultural attqché’s office. The Sureté was brought in and briefed. An alert also went out on Interpol.
