Chapter 5

Twenty Years Later:

“Hey it’s me!” I called out as I opened the door.

“Well no shit. Who else would it be?” Kayla replied in her typical condescending tone.

“Well, it could be some random vampire hunter here to kill you. You never know.” I replied as I walked into the living room.

Kayla put her phone down and stared at me.

“Really?” She gasped.

Sometimes I forgot how gullible she was.

“Don’t worry, vampire hunters don’t typically knock or announce themselves.” I replied.

“Oh, OK. That’s good.” She sighed.

“They just kick in the door and kill everyone.” I grinned.

Kayla’s mouth dropped open again.

She wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

“So, how was your day?”

“Boring. Like usual. I watched all of the Kardashians, AGAIN. Fuck I’m so fucking bored here.” Kayla whined.

“You could go get a job.” I suggested.

“Yeah, but I can’t leave the house during the day.” She pouted.

“True.”

“How much longer until I can be in the Sun anyway?” She asked.

“I don’t know. It really just depends on how much you feed. By the way, have you eaten today?” I asked.

“You mean, drank that fucking sticky shit? Yeah I had a little bit. It’s really fucking gross.” Kayla wrinkled her nose.

“Yeah, I know.” I nodded.

“How long did it take you?” She asked.

“Months. Almost a year to be out for any real length of time. I also fed a LOT. “ I said, trying to think back. It had been a while.

“A year! Fuck! I already missed Spring Break! Now I’m gonna miss the entire summer?” Kayla whined.

“I think you have bigger issues to worry about than your social life. Besides, you could go out, just wear ten million sunblock.”

“Do they make that?” Kayla asked.

My mouth fell open and I shook my head.

Not real bright.

“Seriously, just try to relax and keep eating. The stronger you get the easier your life will be.”

“Yeah, you keep saying that, but then you keep bringing me this crappy ass stuff to drink. It’s not working. Do you even know what you’re doing?” Kayla asked accusingly.

“It’s not my fault that you’re an O negative blood type. It’s really hard to find. So, you’re just gonna have to make due with what I bring you. I know that it’s more effective when it’s a match, but drinking other types still works. It just takes more of it.” I’d explained this several times in the past but it had not clicked with Kayla. I’d tried.

“How did you learn all this stuff anyway? Did you go to vampire school?” Kayla asked.

“Totally. I’ll enroll you in Vampire College one day when you grow up.”

“Really? Do they party a lot there?” She perked up.

“No. Not really. Remember, I’ve been a vampire for 20 years. You just learn shit. You’re gonna have to trust me. I know it sucks, I’ve been there.”

“Yeah it super sucks. I was gonna go to Cancun for Spring Break. THAT didn’t happen, thanks to you.” Kayla pouted, her eyes glaring at me.

I typically wasn’t one to feel bad about much these days, but Kayla had a way of twisting the knife into me when it suited her.

“I know. I’m sorry. It was an accident. I didn’t know you were gonna bite me.”

“Well I didn’t know you were gonna go in the back door!” Kayla exclaimed.

“You said you liked anal.” I said defensively.

“Yeah well that was before I found out you had a big dick. That wasn’t my fault! Warn a girl next time before you stick a baseball bat in her butt!”
