“Vampire sex is the best!” Kayla exclaimed.

We were both on our backs, cuddling after a few hours of screwing. She seemed to have a limitless capacity for sex. I didn’t know if that was because she was a vampire, or still essentially a sex crazed 20 year old.

Either way, I couldn’t say that I minded.

After our post coital cuddle, Kayla rolled over and grabbed her phone.

“How are the girls doing?” I asked.

“Pretty good. Amy is in San Francisco. Vanessa is in Washington. We are teasing her that she is looking for Edward.” Kayla giggled.

“Nice. And the rest?” I laughed.

“Jill is still with Tiny. She’s just a bit burnt out with the club scene. Maggie is on the other side of town, doing her own thing. Amanda hasn’t replied in a while, so I don’t know what she’s doing.”

“Huh. Maybe she’s in a cave with no cell service.” I suggested.

“Yuck, why would you want to be in a cave?” Kayla wrinkled her nose.

“Uhm, cuz it’s dark?”

“Yeah, but all of us can be in the Sun now.”

“I still wouldn’t push it. Even I don’t like to be out for more than a few hours.”

“It’s whatever. I can go shopping now, that’s the important thing!” Kayla exclaimed.

I cringed a little bit. My bank account was certainly suffering from Kayla’s shopping trips, which were growing more frequent.

“Uh huh.” I grumbled.

Kayla rolled over to face me. My eyes were from her face to her dangling breasts, then back up to her face.

“Ya know, you could take a girl out every once in a while!” Kayla said in a grumpy tone.

“Yeah?” I mumbled.

“Or are you just using me for sex?” Kayla asked, giving me a pout.

“Uhm, uhm, uhm...” I babbled.

“I totally saw you just checking out my boobs.” Kayla pressed.

“Uhm, I would. But ya know, we don’t really eat normal food, but if you want to go out on a date or something, uhm, you just have to tell me what you want to do.” I stammered.

Kayla’s face turned into a scowl and we stared at each other for several long, tense seconds.

I could feel my pulse quicken in tension. I didn’t know how to fight with a girl, if this was even what we were doing.

“Are you asking me out?” Kayla said firmly.

“Uhm yeah?”

“Can you do better than that?” She shot back.

“Kayla, uhm, would you like to go out on a date?” I asked slowly.

Kayla stared at me for another few seconds, then a smile split across her face.

“Hehehe, you asked me out! You asked me out!” You’re so much fun to tease!” Kayla laughed.

“So, you’re not mad?” I asked cautiously.

Kayla continued to laugh.

“Did you never have a girlfriend?” Kayla asked, panting for breath between laughs.

I shook my head no.

Kayla suddenly stopped.

“Seriously? Like, ever?” Kayla asked in a serious tone.

I shook my head again.

“Wow. But, you went on dates and stuff, right?” Kayla asked.

“Yeah, a couple. Nothing really came from it.” I shrugged.

“Wow. Like, seriously, wow. I’m sorry, that really sucks. I didn’t know. You totally need the girlfriend experience!” Kayla exclaimed.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“Uhm, actually I just remembered that it’s dirty.” Kayla giggled.

“What’s dirty?” I asked, confused.

“The girlfriend experience. Whatever, forget about that. You’re taking me out! I’m gonna teach you how to take a girl on a date! I have just the outfit for it too! Come on, get dressed!” Kayla squealed, jumping out of bed.

I stared at her naked body as she ran towards the door. As she reached the doorway, she paused and looked over her shoulder at me.

“Caught you looking at my butt!” Kayla giggled, then ran away.

There were a lot of advantages to being a vampire, but there were a lot of things that you missed out on. While you COULD be in the Sun at a certain point, and there WERE vampires that led normal lives and there WERE vampire celebrities and athletes, most of us lived very boring, stressful lives, hiding in the dark and coming out at night in search of our next meal.

I couldn’t imagine what it was to be a vampire and not have the financial resources that I did. I could certainly understand how all of the creepy stories and legends had grown about vampires living in abandoned warehouses, alleyways and castles. It wasn’t for some supernatural creep factor, but because the rent was cheaper.

Then, there were all of the ‘life’ events that you’d miss out on. For Kayla, it was college and parties. For others, it was getting married and having children. I guess for me, it was having a social life. Even as a human, I didn’t get out all that much, so being a solitary vampire was really just an extension of my human life.

Kayla, however, was a social animal. I’d seen that over the last months at the club. She craved people and interaction and I began to feel even worse about what I’d done to her and how I’d kept her in the house for so long.

There was a ‘game center’ in the populated part of town and while I thought that it was a bit juvenile for us, Kayla’s eyes lit up when we pulled in.

“Go karts! Let’s go! Let’s go!” Kayla screamed, pulling my hand like a kid at Disneyland.

I laughed as Kayla drug me towards the line with considerable strength. I looked around at the rest of the crowd, concerned that someone would notice that she was basically pulling me off my feet.

Luckily everyone seemed to be in their own world and didn’t pay us any attention.

“You’re doing DOWN Scotty!” Kayla yelled out as she dropped into her seat.

“Bring it on girl. At least you can’t crash here.” I shot back.

Kayla wasn’t a great driver in the real world and had cost me a lot of money to cover up a fender bender she had been involved in.

Kayla stuck out her tongue at me.

“If you beat me, you can put it in my butt.” Kayla called out loudly.

I recoiled and looked around at the people in the other cars, terrified that someone had heard her. At that moment, the buzzer went off and Kayla sped away, her laughter cutting through the engine noises.

“You cheated!” Kayla called out as we pulled into the pit.

“How do you cheat at go karts?” I asked as I turned around to look at her behind me.

“You pushed me out of the way!”

“Uhm, isn’t that the point of go karts?” I asked as I helped her out of the car.

“Yeah, but the point is, you’re supposed to let the girl win!” Kayla shot back.

“Yeah, says who?” I asked.

“Says ME!” Kayla shrieked.

“Well, good thing that there are plenty of other games to play here. Come on!” I grinned, sticking my hand out to her.

Kayla gave me a pout for a second and then took my hand. Together we walked inside the huge building.

“Let’s play laser tag!” Kayla called out, dragging me towards a huge flashing sign.

“Sure.” I shrugged.

I’d played enough video games that shooting people wasn’t a big deal. Running around a dark room holding a gun was something entirely different. Most of the people in the game were teens, with a handful of younger kids. The actual arena was a bit of a sensory overload, however. Vampire had excellent night vision, which I thought was a little bit of a cheat for us. There technically wasn’t any running aloud, but there was plenty of ‘brisk walking’ going on.

I rounded a corner and felt my chest vest vibrate.

“Got you!” Kayla yelled out. I looked up to see Kayla wave at me from a window cut out on a second floor above me.

“You’re dead!” I called back.

“Come and get me!” Kayla stuck out her tongue at me and then disappeared. I moved towards a ramp and moved as quickly as I could up it towards where I’d seen Kayla. As I rounded the corner towards the window, I smacked full force into another body.

“Oh shit! I’m sorry! Are you OK?” I asked as I looked down into a mass of blond hair.

“Yup.” A female voice replied. She brushed her hair out of the way and I caught a brief glance at her face as she ran down the ramp that I’d just come up.

“Damn, I could have killed her! I’m impressed that she didn’t bust her ass when I hit her!” I thought to myself.

Then, I felt my chest vibrate again.

“Got you again!” Kayla sang out.

“I won! I won!” Kayla cried, jumping up and down holding her scorecard.

“There isn’t any ‘winning’ in laser tag.” I said dryly.

Kayla stuck out her tongue at me.

“I did better than you and that’s all that matters!” Kayla grinned.

“Wow, competitive much?” I asked.

“Nope, I just like to win.” Kayla replied.

I opened my mouth to respond, but caught a glance of the blond girl walking behind Kayla and out of the laser tag arena. I focused my senses on her for a moment.

“Another vampire?” I said, a bit loudly.

“Where? What?” Kayla said, spinning around.

“That blond girl. She’s a vampire.” I said, motioning with my head.

“Where? Is she cute? Is she cuter than me?” Kayla asked, jumping up and down to try to catch a glance of the blond.

I grabbed Kayla’s hand and pulled her towards where I’d seen the blond walk to.

“The first time you take me on a date and you’re already chasing another girl?” Kayla called out as she walked behind me.

“I ran into her in the arena. I’ve never met a vampire out in the wild like this before, I just want to say hi.” I explained.

“Uh huh. Sure.”

We pushed our way through the crowd for a minute but I’d lost sight of the blond.

“She’s gone.” I said, turning towards Kayla.

“Uh huh. Well, that’s a shame.” Kayla pouted, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Are you upset?” I asked.

“Oh no. I’m totally down with you chasing other girls. Hrumph!” Kayla said, stomping her foot a little and looking away.

“What would you like?” I asked defensively.

“I want a present. A BIG one.” Kayla grinned.

“Let’s see what we can do.”

Carnival games were certainly not designed for vampire contestants. I almost felt bad at what I’d done, but then I looked around to see the hundreds of empty handed other people and quickly got over it.

Also, it was hard to feel bad when Kayla was so excited.

“It’s so cute! It’s so cute!” Kayla screamed as she wrapped her arms around a stuffed gorilla that was almost as big as she was.
