Chapter 59: New Board

On Saturday morning Helena awoke and realised what was troubling her. She needed a board of directors for the airline business here. Getting up and having a shower Fred joined her, with the look in Helena’s eyes he just knew something was troubling her. He just did the right thing and accompanied her to breakfast. Coincidence William and his wife together with their son, Paul were having breakfast in the hotel. They all sat at the same large table. Helena asked them to join her in her room after breakfast. Shortly Suzanne and Zac joined them.

Just as they were finishing Claire walked into the restaurant and showed the letter from Jim thanking them for the offer and funds will be directed as you requested with his personal oversight to ensured they followed. Helena asked Claire to join them upstairs, she agreed.

On arriving in her room, they sat down at the dining table with Zac and Fred sitting on the lounge. They knew this was Helena affairs, they were just there for support.

Helena started “William I going back to a comment you made a week ago. You mentioned that we should have the directors the same as GCVA. I would like to propose the following. William CEO, Suzanne and Claire Legal, Fred accounting, and your son Paul as General Manager Vanuatu operations and myself as finance. What are your thoughts?”

William laughed. “Helena we came here for breakfast, then to see you about the same matter. I have been thinking about the board since the takeover. I feel same rules as GCVA re share distribution. I like to have Claire and Suzanne as legal it cover all aspects local and international, Fred being a local now will tip the balance of directors into locals, which is good. What I did not expect was my son. Why?”

“Why not? His opposite is Joe in Australia so we are different but the same.” Helena replied.

“OK. Now Son, Suzanne, Claire would you accept the position as directors of VatAirCo? Fred you are automatic with your wife” William asked and smiled at Fred.

Fred looking dejected “My lovely wife don’t I get a choice”

Helen smiled with the comments “No.”

They all laughed.

The three of them agreed to be directors. Fred replied “I agree as well.” Poking his tongue out to his wife, again good humour occurred.

Helena replied “Thank you all for accepting. Claire you need a firm partner to agree, as a partner I allow you. One of you two will be the minute taker and writer please.” Helena then noticed Suzanne taking notes, “Look like Suzanne is doing today’s notes.”

Suzanne replied “Not a problem, Claire could you arrange typing up please, After we have finished?”

Claire advised “I will attend with pleasure.”

Helena sat back. “Now is there anything else I have not attended too, please. Anyone?”

No-one could think of anything.

Helena advised “Well our honeymoon is almost over, When is a convenient time to take us back please William?”

William advised “Project W plane will be arriving on Thursday around 11am. We can service and have her ready to fly back in the afternoon or Friday. Which do you prefer?”

Looking at Zac, Fred, Suzanne “Thursday afternoon I feel, how about you guys?”

They all agreed on Thursday. William advised “Agreed Thursday. We will arrange a time later.”

They generally chit chatted for the next hour or so.

When they finally departed Paul especially thanked Helena for the directorship. This he did not expect.

They drifted down to the pool area and had lunch served at the pool. Helena looked at Suzanne and mentally spoke ‘There is still something I need to do and I cannot remember what it is. Harry is not being helpful at present.’

‘Same here, I have the same feeling. Therefore it must involve us both’ Suzanne replied.

Harry intruded ‘There is nothing you need to worry about, the problem you are worried about is not your concern even though you feel it is. Just relax.’ And he just seemed to disappear.

They both looked at each other strangely.

The last few days of the honeymoon just seem to vanish, relaxing, eating, sleeping and other pursuits. On the Wednesday they called around to to see the VatAirCo. All of the staff greeted then with smiles and appeared to be really happy. One of the girls that help Fred in the accounting section ask him a question which he responded. She then stated to Fred “Thank you, since the takeover this place seems such a happy place to work now. It a joy coming to work and William is always pleasant to all of the staff.”

Fred thanked her for her comments they relayed them to Helena and William. They all walked over, with William, to the passenger terminal as they now call it. Paul greeted them.
