Chapter 24: Asian Treat

Helena returned to her unit, then went over to visit Suzanne unit. The smell was gone together with the carpet and kitchen units. They had washed everything and some of the paint work had started to peel. Pleased Helena returned to her unit making a mental note to thank Zac for a good job.

Just as she entered the unit Fred rang and requested her company for dinner. He would pick her up outside of her building at 6.30pm. Helena was happy and started to plan her dress for the evening, then Suzanne rang. Everything went well today at Mrs Jones and she is ready to depart. Helena mentioned about the unit and she was pleased. Helena would not commit to meeting tomorrow as she has a dinner date with Fred. Suzanne smirking replied OK, she would ring at 6am in the morning. Ha. Ha.

When Fred picked up Helena in the taxi, he explained that the dinner date is two fold. First I owe you dinner and I’m still working. I have to check out a large chinese restaurant at Miami. If you do not wish to be a part of it I can understand Fred advised. Helena sat in the taxi saying I’m pleased to assist and act as your lover for the event. Fred got the hint to be on his best behaviour.

Harry mentioned ‘Grab his hand, he will need help.’ Helena held Fred hand all the way to Miami.

Fred advised that on the investigation, they were still trying to identify the main criminal organisation involved. They had only two suspects one here and a developer in Surfers. They knew this restaurant was a front for drugs, money laundering and prostitution, but could never prove it due to the closed family community in this place. He just wanted to check out any possibilities.

The restaurant was quite plush looking with plenty of red material and red paint everywhere. Upon arrival they were escorted to a private booth on the side of the restaurant. It actually gave Fred a view into the kitchen when he was looking at Helena. They eat a modest meal keeping to the traditional Australian chinese menu’s. Fred did notice a lot of anger in the kitchen with some chef’s and security guards always putting their hand in the cold cooking oil vats and bringing the hands out clenched. He would get customs to check the imports of cooking oil, could they be hiding the drugs in the oil?

They were offered a free desert on the house with their coffee. Harry mention strongly ‘NO’

Declining they got ready to leave. Helena ring was tingling, warning her to be careful. A cab drove up with an Asian driver. Helena declined the ride saying let go for a beach walk. Walking down to the beach, Helena knew that they were being followed by 4 men. Harry liked to protect her.

Whilst walking they almost reached Surfers when they saw two Asian walking along towards them, there were still four behind them. Just when they met, two men grabbed Fred. Helena relaxed and let Harry take over, In a flash four men had broken femur and pelvic bones and unable to move. Fred was knocked out, so Helena/Harry broke the spines of the remaining two attackers. None of those guys would be around for at least 6 months. Carrying Fred towards the lights two policemen seeing the commotion ran to Helena asking what happened. Helena advised Fred was one of you guys, a Police Sargent. They appeared to be fighting each other then attacked my poor Fred. Hearing the first name, the senior asked if he was from Coolangatta? Helena confirmed knowing that would get action. The senior radio to the station requesting assistance for one of theirs, attacked on the beach. Then said to the junior officer, this. I believe, is the man who cleaned out the rats in Broadbeach and Palm Beach stations. He has my 1000% support. Some more police arrived just when Fred was coming around. The police insisted he get checked out by the hospital, but not Gold Coast Uni. That’s where they are taking the attackers. He ended up at The John Flynn hospital, Tugun, there he is given top treatment. Because he was knocked out he was forced to spend the night.

Helena stayed with Fred and sleep on the arm chair in the room. The next morning Ian arrived to see him and asked what happened. He explained what little he knew. The attackers are saying they do not speak english. However two will never walk again and four will be in traction for up to six months due to massive major broken bones.

Looking at Helena Ian asked what did she see. She explained the two men appear to taunt the other four men then started fighting, when they grabbed Fred, I just saw red and hit out in defence. Did I do all of that damage? Ian advised I don’t think so as they were all martial arts fighters so they would know how to disable each other. Helena looked worried, but smiling inside, Ian and Fred consoled her with Ian saying unless you or Fred press charges nothing will happen. Helena advised she would leave it to Fred to decide.

Ian looking at Fred saying “Don’t let her get angry mate!” he then left saying to Fred take another day off and I see you Tuesday. They left the hospital with Julie picking them up and returning to Helena unit in Tugun. They spent the day in the unit and in the evening walked back to Coolangatta via the beach.
