Chapter 9: Linc - What About Dany?

Linc was growingly concerned about Dany. She seemed different. She was far more reserved and seemed a little cold to him. He still really cared for her and even entertained thoughts that he wished they were the ones making big plans. But it was too late to go down that road. Even so, he gave his friend a call.

“Hi, Linc.”

“Dany. I haven’t seen you in a while. I miss my best friend.”

“Well, I miss you too, but you’ve got big plans to make. How’s Steph?”

“She’s good. Did she call you about being a bridesmaid?”

“Yeah. I was a bit surprised. I don’t really know her.”

“I wanted her to include you and she was overjoyed. She knows you’ve been my long-time best friend.”

Dany was silent on the other end of the call. Linc was getting concerned because it felt like she was fighting tears. She recently told Linc didn’t trust Steph at all. She attributed her concern to a woman’s intuition.

“Dany? You there?”

“I’m sorry, Linc. I gotta go. Talk to you later.”

Linc was starting to put his limited social skills to the test. He always had feelings for Dany but couldn’t seem to find a way to make the relationship take that leap. Lightbulbs were starting to illuminate in his mind. ‘Did she maybe always feel the same way I do, and I missed it? She’s sounded hurt ever since Steph came along. Damn, am I that big of an idiot? She’s acting like my pending nuptials are the worst thing that could have happened.’

Linc felt pain in his chest. He knew it was for Dany. He was pretty sure it was because he wanted her to find love the way he had with Steph, but that thought sent waves of jealousy through his mind. Or maybe she did have unspoken feelings for him. In any event, there wasn’t anything he could do about it now.

Linc didn’t have time to dwell on the call with Dany. He had a different discussion that had to happen with Steph, and he was not comfortable with the subject. In fact, he dreaded it.
