Chapter 4
The next morning, the women slowly walked out of the gate from the healing house. They made their way somberly across the field towards the meeting post. In their midst, was one dressed in a forest green robe with it’s hood hiding her face.
“What’s all this about?” Kevin asked.
Ben shrugged. “I don’t know. Momma, told me last night to have us here this morning.”
The women stopped. Kathy took two long side steps and stood alone with her head bowed. The person in the green robe came forward with their head bowed and stood next to Barbara.
Barbara looked at the two men then said in a jubilant voice: “Heyrðu hús Thurisaz. Allur faðirinn og frúinn Freyja hafa séð sér vel til að taka burt blindu okkar og gefa Clan okkar aðgang að Wyrrd. Við kynnum gjöf sína til okkar fyrir þig. The Volva og Seidrkona Meghan Patel.”
“(Hear me House Thurisaz. The All Father and the Lady Freyja have seen fit to take away our blindness and give our Clan access to the Wyrrd. We present their gift to us to you. The Volva and Seidrwoman Meghan Patel.)”
Meghan raised her head and pulled back her hood. “Ég heilsa þér Thurisaz-húsinu. Vinsamlegast tilkynnið Chieftain Ég mun þurfa hann að hitta mig á morgun kvöld.” (I greet you House Thurisaz. Please inform the Chieftain I will need him to meet with me tomorrow evening.)
Ben answered: “Ættir þú ekki að fara til hans? (Shouldn’t you go to him?)”
Meghan said: “A Volva leitar ekki ráðs höfðingja. Hann leitar mín. (A Volva doesn’t seek a chieftain’s counsel. He seeks mine.)”
Kevin’s head jerked. “Damn.”
Ben said: “Ég miðla skilaboðunum þínum. (I’ll relay your message.)”
Þakka þér fyrir. (Thank you.) Now that all the business is taken care of can I have a hug, dad?
Ben face lit up as he opened his arms and said: “Absolutely!”
After giving Ben his hug, she went to Kevin and caressed his face and said: “Ég elska þig, maðurinn minn. (I love you, my husband.) and kissed him.
Ég elska þig. (I love you.) How did you get that shiner?
Meghan dropped her a second then looked him in the eyes and said: “Carly gave it to me because of some lies I let her believe. There are somethings I need to tell you before we can go any farther in our relationship. Could we go to the safe room? You might want to bring your belt.”
Kevin shook his head. “You’re not my slave. I don’t have the right.”
Meghan took his hand. “I know. I’m going to tell you some bad things about myself. Things that might make you hate me or mad enough to beat me because I didn’t tell you. I know you’ll never beat me. I’ll accept a spanking if it will make you feel better.
“Let’s go to my room, instead.”
Once they were seated, Kevin asked “What’s up?”
Meghan studied her hands a moment then took a deep breath. She looked Kevin in the eyes and said: “I didn’t tell you the whole truth about myself or my marriage.”
“O ... K.”
Meghan licked her lips. Her hands played with the fabric of her robe as she spoke. “When I was about fourteen I started having dreams and visions. I started knowing things that I had no reason to be able to know. It scared the living shit out of me. My family didn’t know anything about things like that. The one time I tried to mention it to my mom. She started talking about her aunt Elsie who spent her life at the funny farm. She gave me a sharp look. In other words, shut up.
I started drinking. Sometimes I’d be drunk three or four days trying to numb myself from it and the fear. When I started dating John it was a god send. He helped me slow down and as long as I focused on pleasing him the dreams and stuff would mostly go away. Life was great. We married. I had a master who loved me and our child and I could sleep in peace.
When Carly was about four is when everything went to hell. The dreams and visions came back in full force I couldn’t stop them. I started drinking all the time. I was selling things we owned to buy booze so John wouldn’t notice how much I was drinking. I would wander off for a couple of days of partying. One night, a girl got me started on crack. Three days later, I was selling pussy and blow jobs for more. I’d come home and stay for awhile and off I’d go again.
We told Carly I had a job and had to be gone a lot. The day of the accident I came in after Carly had went to school. John made me breakfast. It was the first real food I had eaten in almost a week. As I ate, he talked me into trying rehab. He gave me a kiss and went to get Carly. I never saw him again. I blamed myself because if I wasn’t going to rehab. He wouldn’t have been there. I haven’t had a single drink or rock since I found out about the accident. I should have told you, but I was too ashamed. I’m sorry.”
Kevin nodded and said: “Thank you for telling me. It took a lot of courage to do that. If I didn’t already know I’d lost my mind when you told me.”
“What!”
“My father told me about it. He’s known since I first started hanging out at your house.”
“He never acted like he knew.” Meghan said.
“He did his best to keep it from me. He believes in you and wanted you to have a fair chance with a clean slate. He would of never told me if you hadn’t got sick. You can’t tell anybody he knew because he never told mom.”
“Shit, I can see how that would work.” Meghan said. She looked at Kevin with anxiety written across her face. “Now what?” She asked.
Kevin’s eyes bored into hers as he spoke: “I have to know one thing: Did you mean what you said outside? Am I Meghan’s husband or am I a Volva’s husband or will I have a Girl’s love?”
Meghan went to her husband. She kneeled between his legs, looked up to him and said: “I told you that a part of me was broken and I didn’t know if I could love someone like that again. That part has been made whole. There is no Volva Meghan or a Girl Meghan, There’s only Meghan Patel who wants to fill those roles. I love you. You are my husband whether we have paperwork or not. I’ll be happy to have children with you. Remember, your other wife will want some, too.”
“Why didn’t she come up to me?” Kevin asked.
“She knows we had to talk because it was the only way I was allowed to stay in our marriage.”
“Excuse me.”
Meghan licked her dry lips and sighed “I hurt Carly when I took your collar. I forced her to share you with me. To make it right, I had to give you back with no strings attached and let her choose if she wanted to share. She said I could stay as long as there were no more lies and you agreed with her after I told you the truth. There’s something else I need to tell you to make sure I cover all of Carly’s bases.”
“That is?” Kevin asked.
“When I became a Volva I met Freyja.”
Kevin’s eyes bugged out and he leaned back in shock. “THE Freyja?”
Meghan nodded.
“Holy Shit!”
Meghan glanced down Then looked at him with tears running down her cheeks. “She told me John and Carly weren’t my victims. She said John was our hero. The three of us were fated to die three weeks after the day of the accident.”
Meghan took a deep breath trying to remain calm. She started crying harder instead. “But she had met John in a tavern and was moved by the purity of his love and devotion to his whore of a wife. She pled with the Fates to honor his sacrifice. They agreed to let us live and to give him a painless death. You know the truth. Can I stay, please?”
Two minutes of silence that passed as centuries went by. Meghan dropped her head and started to rise. “I understand. I’ll get my things,” She said.
“Why?” Kevin asked. “Our house isn’t ready yet.”
“What!”
“We’re living here until we get our house ready,” Kevin said.
“I love you!”
“I love you.”
“Why did you scare me like that?” Meghan asked.
“I’m still pissed. What was it you told me? Just because I’m pissed doesn’t mean I want you to go away,” Kevin pulled Meghan up and into his lap. “I want a ceremony.”
“Ok. What kind?” Meghan asked.
“You got a Collaring ceremony. Carly had a Womanhood ceremony. I want a Marriage ceremony with the three of us. We keep being told we’re married and we are but I don’t remember having a marriage ceremony and damnit, I want one.”
Meghan looked at him and smiled. “You know it’s not legal right?”
“That Grams Hallwood woman who got us in all this shit said paperwork and titles don’t matter. We’ll worry about paperwork later. I want both of my wives to know I love them and none of us are going anywhere ever.”
Meghan gave him a soul searing kiss. “What changed your mind?”
“Don.” Kevin said.
“How’s that?
“You might not believe me,” Kevin said “I held and spoke with him that night. I saw what happened when I gave mom his message. That woman knew about the three of us when my mom was eight years old. If the one person I trusted as much as my dad was allowed to come back and make sure we got that message then it’s true.”
Meghan nodded. “I didn’t believe you when you first said it. I have no doubt now. I have a question. May I have your collar back?”
Kevin kissed her neck until Meghan pulled him closer and purred. He broke the kiss. “I...
Meghan looked a little sad, “You’re just wrong. Haven’t you heard: You never start a car unless you’re willing to drive?”
Kevin laughed and gave her ass a gentle swat. “As I was saying, I need to ask Carly, first. I wouldn’t want us to make the same mistake twice. I meant what I told you, I’m as willing to put it on you as I was the first time. Are you sure it’s good for you now?”
Meghan nodded as she rubbed one of Kevin’s sweet spots on the back of his head, “Yes, but we need to renegotiate our contract a bit because I’ve changed and our lives are about to change.”
Kevin said. “I do know that I don’t want to collar you tonight.”
“Why?”
Meghan almost cried from his pain filled stare and the anguish in his voice: “Because, I’ve never made love to Meghan. You wouldn’t let me.”
Meghan caressed his face and looked deep in his eyes. “I won’t hide from you anymore. Whether I wear your collar or not you’ll always be with the real me. I thought I was poison. I had already killed one person who loved me. That’s why I jumped away from you at the table. I was afraid of hurting you.”
