Action/Adventure Story: This is the story of John Edwards, a fighter pilot in WW1, his combat experiences, and his romance with Connie Butler, a Red Cross worker. Most of the story involves a little-known, but very important, battle against the German observation balloons. John's favorite method of attack came from my imagination, but it could have worked and made a difference in the war. Every infantryman in WW1 had nothing but praise for the guts of the balloon busters.
Author's note:
This story is written with the Midwestern vernacular of the time of World War I. Thus, some of the words may be unfamiliar. For example, "dove" is used in place of "dived." There are other usages, but they should be clear from the context.
