Chapter 4B

It was almost strange how the Federation federation reacted, like they didn’t know how to act. The admirals all insisted that he was promoted to Commandercommander, appropriate to the job he was doing when he was killed. His wife would get his full retirement. For once the personnel folks didn’t make a peep. Eleanor kept being saluted everywhere she went. Then finally after almost two months, the Federation federation gave Brad the Federation Star for giving his life to save millions of others. Any of his children who wished to serve in the fleet, were guaranteed a spot in Mauna Loa Academy.

Eleanor had made Brad give her a sperm donation so she could have more children, even if he was deployed for a long period. She now used some of this to get pregnant again. She delivered a beautiful daughter a year after Brad died,. she She named her Margo Louise Mufflen after Brad’s mother and hers.

Then some two years after Brads’ death, the Federation federation came to her and asked if she would be willing to help them make the Good Fortune System fall in line with Federation federation guidelines. They were blunt. Her father was underpaying and abusing his workforce to build his own worth and doing a poor job of it, forcing the Good Fortune system ever closer to bankruptcy. His police force was a bunch of goons who abused and forced the people to do whatever they were told to make them do. BasicallyBasically, Darrel Dunstan Hamilton was a crook and dictator. Eleanor had seen some of this growing up and had no doubt that there was some truth behind it. She asked them to work with her a little and give her some time to gather more inside information.

Eleanor invited her mother and father to come see their grand daughtergranddaughter. Her father refused, assuming, likely correctly, that he would be arrested, but her mother was anxious to come visit. When she got there, she was stunned by all these men saluting her daughter and even more when she explained they were really saluting her husband, who had died saving this whole system. Louise had heard none of this. Her mother allowed that her husband had become a miserly mean old bastard. Louise stayed two weeks and was thrilled with her grand childrengrandchildren. When she left, Eleanor contacted the Federation federation POC and said she had confirmed everything they alluded to, and she would support them. She suggested that a governor be appointed and two battalions of Marines be based there initially, to enforce the governorsgovernors’ orders. The local police force should be dissolved and the men in it and their families be taken off world. She also said it might be desirable to buy up enough of the Mines mines stock to take it over. As it turned out, the government had done that and had a 39% holding, but couldn’t seem to get any more. Eleanor had bought up some of her brother’s holdings when he needed money for other expenses, which she found out later were drugs, alcohol and women. She owned 13% and her father couldn’t touch it, as it was listed in the name of Mrs.Eleanor Hamilton Mufflen. With their 39% and her 13%, they owned a fifty two percent holding in the company. They asked if she was willing to live there again. and she said IF the Marines were there, the local police were gone and they could get the mines back to working under humane conditions, she would live there. The Federation federation representative said that matched their desires closely. Would she be willing to lend her name to the new government, perhaps as duchess ... she laughed “No, I am not going to start that nobility stuff. I’ll go as governor or as some other civilian position title with some authority. The Governor governor should not be a Military military Officer officer as that smacked of military rule.” He said he would go back to the government with her suggestions. The Federation federation decided that she would be titled governor after the mine corporation was taken over and she could guide that too, so long as she stayed within the Federation’s federation’s guidelines. She examined them and agreed. She suggested the old commissioner’s house be refurbished as the new Governor’s governor’s house. They agreed.

So suddenly one warm Thursday morning in Superior a large Military military Transport transport appeared overhead and launched fourteen fighters which flew over Superior and executed a bit of an air show while multiple fleet landing craft also left the ship, two moved to Superior and disgorged a group of Marines who moved to Government house House and cleared it and the grounds around it, establishing a perimeter. A short while later another smaller craft landed in the Government House grounds and a woman with a baby in her arms and a small boy holding her hand walked in tointo the house with more marines Marines around her. The public was entranced, as this was very unusual. The landing of hundreds of Marines in many other places was still not apparent. The Mine Corporation Immediately immediately wanted to know the meaning of this, and were told that the Governor governor had landed and security was being provided. The Mine Corporation was beside itself, as their wholly owned bank had been seized. The wholly owned Super Store and Market had also been seized, the local hospital had been commandeeredcommandeered, and Fleet fleet Doctors doctors now ran it. and the The Port port Admiral admiral had numerous large tents being erected at the small Fleet fleet Space space Portport. Landing craft kept landing and unloading equipment and vehicles. The Police police were told to stay out of it, which had them on edge, but their resistance only reached the level of violence twice on the whole planet, with the police losing quickly and badly in very short order. It was very apparent that thee these were not the pretty marines Marines that marched on the screens, these were hardened combat marinesMarines.

The day ended quietly and the populace was curious but only mildly concerned as the Marines and Fleet fleet men they had dealings with were polite and helpful but not inclined to vary from their orders.
