Nell's Kitchen

Chapter 2

Romance Sex Story: Chapter 2 - Paul spent years running the restaurant his parents left behind. Nell’s is his work, his family and most of his life. But lately, the people closest to him have been making life a lot more complicated. With Halloween approaching, Paul discovers that some things are a lot harder to manage than a kitchen.

Rae had spent the entire morning watching Leah run the shoot at Nell’s with envy.

How did she do it?

Leah was dressed in a simple cream knit sweater. Yet, she looked even more beautiful in the morning light than she had last night (if that was even possible).

Rae sighed, remembering how she had spent two hours in front of her mirror trying to style her hair like Leah’s. It just hadn’t worked. She patted her hair unconsciously.

Leah had been a revelation that morning. Chris and Leah had taken over the dining room at Nell’s. They had decided that the restaurant needed a publicity push. So, they spent the entire day so far shooting photos, reels and testimonials.

Rae sighed. Leah was so good at this! No wonder she had over three million followers online. She didn’t understand how Leah could get the reclusive Mr. Sterling to openly give a gushing testimonial about Nell’s. She had warned Leah there was no way Mr. Sterling would talk to anyone. Leah took that as a personal challenge.

She had watched Leah glide over to Mr. Sterling with a dimpled smile carrying two warm Madeleines on a small plate. She still remembered how she had disarmed the man.

“Mr. Sterling, I know you hate cameras, but Paul baked these specifically because he knew you were in today. Could I get just ten seconds of you tasting one for our local legacy series? Please?”

How did that work?

Rae knew how to run the floor at Nell’s. She could negotiate with suppliers, vendors; balance the ledger; create work schedules in her sleep. Yet she could have never done what Leah managed with just a few soft words.

It just wasn’t fair. Everyone loved Leah. It almost felt like some kind of black magic.

Leah caught Rae’s reflection in the glass of the wine cabinet across the room. She paused, her eyes learning the way Rae stood.

God, she envied that posture.

Rae didn’t even have to try. She just held herself with this quiet, untouchable authority - even when she was doing something as mundane as staring down a stack of dinner menus. Leah had spent years trying to project that kind of confidence, but on her, it always felt like playing dress-up. Rae just had it.

Leah knew she was pretty, maybe even gorgeous. Sure, she had a lot of followers online that tried to look like her. But she didn’t have the effortless gravitas that Rae had. She didn’t know how to get things done - like work schedules or negotiating with suppliers to find the various new ingredients that Paul wanted. She couldn’t understand how Rae made it look so easy.

Rae didn’t need to sweet talk someone into doing things. People listened when Rae told them to do something.

Leah pulled her shoulders back, straightening her spine. She looked at the glass cabinet reflection again. Almost. She could never look like Rae.

Everything was going well until the menace arrived.

“Chris! You’ve been shooting for over an hour,” Paul grumbled. “I need to prepare for dinner. My staff keeps getting distracted with all the cameras and lights in here.”

“Paul. Chill out. You know that I typically charge thousands of dollars for something like this right? Hell, even Leah would normally get a lot of money for even showing up to promote a restaurant. We’re doing this for free because it’s you. Nell’s needs a better presence online.”

Paul spluttered. “Nell’s doesn’t need a digital strategy or whatever you’re calling this nowadays. People come to Nell’s for my food and my hospitality. It’s not because of some picture on a phone.”

Chris groaned. “Bro. You’ve done three takes so far. And in each of them you managed to look like you’ve been held hostage by a cartel. Can you please help us out here?”

Paul turned to glare at Leah. “Can you please tell your brother-in-law to wrap it up? I’m sick of talking about ‘artisan tradition’ or whatever.”

Leah didn’t flinch. She set her iPad down and walked over to Paul. She gave him a sweet smile and gently smoothed down the lapel of his coat.

“You’re going to repeat whatever lines Chris gives you, Chef. Chris and I are doing this for Aunt Nell. Understand?”

“But...”

“No Paul. You need to understand that we’re doing you a favor. Now, when Chris tells you to talk about artisan tradition, you do it. Capiche?”

Paul opened his mouth to argue. But then he looked at Leah’s face and deflated with an exaggerated sigh. “You two are tyrants.”

“We’re professionals, bro,” Chris deadpanned from behind a monitor. “Rae, tell this jackass that he’s being a jackass.”

Rae smirked, “Paul, you’re being a jackass.”

“Thank you! That’s what we’ve all been saying.”

Everyone other than Paul laughed uproariously. Paul retreated back into the kitchen.

Chris cleared his throat. “Okay people, Let’s get the next shot in. Rae, sweetheart, why don’t you stand here for this next shot? And action!”

The girls could hear Paul still arguing with Chris when the front door shut. Apparently Paul was bemoaning the need for a trending audio track on the content that Chris had shot that day.

“Honestly, I don’t know how Chris puts up with it! I’d have punched Paul by now.” Rae said, shaking her head.

“Seriously! The man cooks like an angel. But he is stubborn when it comes to things he doesn’t understand.” Leah added.

“If I had to listen to Paul whine about lighting one more time, I swear I would have drowned him in his own stockpot,” Dana declared. “Alright girls. Who wants to share this Cabernet with me?”

“Ooh. I do!” Rae said, with a smile. “I need something after listening to our man act like an ungrateful brat all day.”

“But he’s our ungrateful brat right?” Leah corrected. She sank into the corner of the sectional with her legs tucked in. She held out her glass for Dana to fill. “Still. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris puts him into a headlock soon.”

Dana giggled and raised a toast. “Here’s to our ungrateful brat. Paul the menace.”

The girls chuckled and clinked their full glasses with one another.

Three empty bottles rested on the rug within a couple of hours. In Paul’s absence, Leah and Rae reverted to being the close friends they had always been. The wine helped them let their hair down and kick back. The women gossiped and laughed until their ribs ached.

“Chris still treats us like we’re five years old. Doesn’t he?” Rae giggled when Leah poured her another glass.

“You know Chris thinks he’s protecting us right?” Leah said, her cheeks flushed warm with wine.

“Aw. Don’t talk about my husband that way. You know that he thinks you’re both his sisters right?”

“We know.” Rae laughed. “Last month, when I was supervising the setup at that Farmer’s Market, he yelled at this cute guy who was trying to hit on me. He yelled at him so loudly that the poor guy couldn’t get away quickly enough! I didn’t even get his name.”

Leah squealed. “Tell me about it. He did the exact same thing with me. There was this agency client of his that asked if he could get my number. Chris changed the contract and explicitly added a line stating that I don’t do off-hours consulting.”

“Aw! That’s so sweet!” Dana said. “My husband is the best.”

“Really? You’re telling me you would have appreciated someone driving men away from you when you were single?”

Dana’s eyes had a twinkle in them. “Really? You’re telling me either of you mind Chris chasing men away. Like you don’t have someone else that you’re interested in already?”

Neither woman answered.

Dana looked at Leah innocently. “So how are your love lives going? We haven’t talked about it for a while. What happened with that gorgeous actor you collaborated with last month, Leah? What was his name? Raj or something?”

Leah blushed, “Oh you know. He tried ... just like all these clueless men do. He was very good looking. But you know...”

“And you, my little maneater.” Dana looked at Rae with a raised eyebrow. “What about that baseball star that tried to get your number at Nell’s? He was pretty smitten with you, wasn’t he?”

Rae snorted. “Oh, I made it pretty clear to that blockhead that I wasn’t into him. I think the steroids must have addled his brains or something. He just couldn’t get it into his thick skull that I wasn’t interested.”

She paused, “I don’t know why he kept pursuing me though. I mean I can understand if it were Leah or even you Dana...”

“Oh stop it,” Dana protested. “Are you fishing for compliments or something, girl? Have you seen yourself? You’re a babe. Do you know how hot you look? Especially when you’re in the restaurant looking all stern and aloof. God, if you weren’t like my sister and I wasn’t married, you’d be in trouble.”

“Dana! What are you saying,” Leah exclaimed watching Rae’s eyes widen.

“Oh, come on Leah. Don’t tell me that thought hasn’t crossed your mind. You don’t have to hide anything between us. I know you’ve kissed a few girls. Remember Cindy?”

Leah blushed red, “Oh ... that was just for a dare during that party. It didn’t mean anything.”

“Stop it Dana! You’re too much!” Rae protested. “You’re drunk.”

“Pfft. Too much or not enough? Girls. Answer me honestly. When was the last time either of you got laid? Last I remember, both of you were still virgins. Have we punched that V-card yet?”

Leah and Rae both blushed red.

Dana gasped, “Are you kidding me? What the fuck? Both of you are still virgins? Looking the way you do?”

The girls just blushed even more red.

“Girls. You’re shitting me! How is this possible?”

Rae stuttered, “Dana! You know it’s not like that. It’s just ... I haven’t found the right man to do it with yet.”

Leah agreed, “Yeah. You know ... it’s not that easy.”

“Which is hysterical,” Dana declared, swinging her glass around, “Because both my ‘innocent sisters’ are hopelessly hoping to sleep with the same man.”

Leah and Rae froze.

Dana continued, “See? I knew it. You’re both in love with my best friend, aren’t you? You both want Paul.”

Leah blinked rapidly while Rae shook her head violently.

“I ... what? Dana, that’s ... absurd. I’m just his floor manager. We have a professional...”

“Oh shut up, babe,” Dana cut in gently. “Do you even know what you look like when you stare at him?”

She turned to Leah, “And you, babe. You are even more obvious.”

“I’m not that obvious,” Leah protested weakly.

“Aha! So you do love him.” Dana proclaimed triumphantly. “And you do too, little Rae.”

She set her glass down with a soft clink. “You know that Chris is the only person clueless enough not to see it, right? That’s because he sees you two as his little sisters. But I have known for a long time that you two are desperately in love with Paul.”

She cut Rae off before she could protest, “And there’s nothing wrong with that. Leah, I don’t care if he was my ex-boyfriend. Whatever we had between us romantically is gone now. We are only best friends. You don’t have to feel guilty about desiring him. And Rae that goes for you as well. As far I’m concerned, you have my blessings to pursue him.”

Dana looked at both girls. “You know that he loves you both as well, don’t you?”

Rae buried her face in her hands. Leah looked sad.

“I know Paul likes me. But he doesn’t love me the way he does Rae.”

Rae looked up disbelievingly.

“I mean ... look at Rae. She’s the total package. She’s gorgeous and she can run his restaurant for him. He doesn’t need a butterfly like me.”

Rae snorted. “A butterfly? You’re the most gorgeous woman I know. Other than you Dana. No offence.”

“None taken,” Dana declared sweetly.

“God. The total package? I don’t mean anything to him like you do, Leah. I mean sure, I’m a part of his business world, but I don’t own his heart like you do. Do you know how many times I’ve watched the two of you together with jealousy? You’re the one he loves.”

Leah interrupted, “Yeah right. Have you seen the way he cares for you when you’re in the kitchen together? Sure, he may not make any grand romantic gestures, but he cares for you a lot! The way he makes sure you don’t get hurt, or making sure you’re hydrated and well fed because you’re too busy to remember...”

“Oh yeah? What about the special food he makes for you every day? You know that he doesn’t let anyone else touch that right? He doesn’t even need to ask you what you want to eat. It’s like he knows you inside and out.”

Dana watched the two girls argue with one another with a smile on her face. She interrupted gently. “I think you’re proving my point here, ladies. You’ve both proven that he loves you both.”

Leah shook her head, “Are you kidding, Dana? He feels nothing for me like he does Rae. With me it’s just friendship. With Rae, he shows how much he really cares. You know, he treats me like glass. Like I’m fragile.”

“Like you’re fragile?” Rae spat out, “He treats you like a princess. I’m sure if you were in the same position I was in two months back, he wouldn’t have backed away. He would have gone the whole way.”

Dana leaned forward. “Why is this the first time I’m hearing about this? Girl! What did he do?”

Rae went quiet. She took a moment to compose herself. Then she continued bitterly, “Two months back, we were the only ones left in the restaurant after closing.”

Dana and Leah leaned in, curious.

“He walked in when I was changing in the office. I was completely nude. He didn’t know I was in there.”

She swallowed, “He froze when he saw me. Then his eyes changed. He saw me as a woman for the first time. He didn’t look at me like a coworker. He stared at my body like ... like he was starving. Like he wanted to ravish me.”

Leah sucked in a deep breath. Dana made a noise.

“When he saw me like that ... something in me just snapped. I wanted him to take me. Right then and right there.”

Leah moaned.

Dana’s mouth fell wide open. “Then what happened?”

“I didn’t cover up. I walked right to him and jumped into his arms.”

“Naked?” Dana squeaked.

“Yes. I wrapped my legs around him. God! He caught me in those strong arms of his and held me like I weighed nothing. Leah, you have no idea how strong he is when he’s not holding back.”

Leah blushed and gripped the sofa cushion hard.

Rae continued, “I kissed him and it was ... oh my god ... it was electric! Fuck! His lips were so soft. My whole body was on fire! I wanted him! I needed him. So bad!”

Leah gave a soft moan visualizing Paul that way.

Dana asked breathlessly, “Then what happened?”

Rae stopped for a moment. She had tears in her eyes. “I thought that was the night when he would make me a woman. His woman. But he froze. I had opened myself up to him completely. He just had to put it in. I was dripping for him. God! I was wet for him. But he stopped. Instead of desire he looked at me in horror. Then he just ... backed away.”

“Just like that?” Leah whispered. “He didn’t even tell you why?”

“No.” Rae was sobbing now. “We didn’t even talk about it all this time. It’s like it never happened.”

“Oh, Rae.” Leah moved and hugged her. “You’re not the only one.”

Dana squeaked. “What the hell? Something happen with you as well? Why the fuck is this the first time I’m hearing about this? You’re my girls. What happened to dishing all our goss? I tell you everything!”

Leah blushed. “Well it’s not like anything happened.”

Rae looked at her curiously. “He did the same thing to you as well?”

“Yeah. Well we didn’t get as far as you did. One night, when he was dropping me home, he finally kissed me.”

Rae and Dana gasped.
