Lt. Gen. Daniel “Tiger” Hayes sat in his office at FRSPCOM, the Federation of Human Worlds Far Space Command. He had been going through reports on the escalating war with the Yishkak, as well as reports of their Tsch’kal allies movements and combat actions. So far, none of his Marines had participated in any combat, from the Human’s standpoint, this was purely a Naval conflict so far. A message beeped on his terminal with a new report, followed by a rap at the door. “Enter.” Major Anthony Stevens opened the door and walked in, snapping to attention and saluting. Dan returned it. “What do you have for me, Tony?” The Major was his intel specialist.
“Sir, I just forwarded you a report that came from the 3rd Intel Bn. It, well, it came from a former Marine who engaged the Yishkak in what amounts to guerilla warfare on Teldar 2, just outside of Tsch’kal space.”
Daniel laughed. “I’m sorry, what? Did someone write Marine Corps fan fiction?”
“No sir. Read the report. We’ve authenticated its origin. Sgt. Lucas Ripley, formerly of the 9th Expeditionary Brigade, is working as a freighter captain. His SuperLight malfunctioned, dumping him on Teldar 2. A few months later, a Yishkak gunship is chasing a Tsch’kal transport, and Ripley shoots the gunship down with MANPADS that he had been transporting to Tsch’kal Prime. He rescued the lone survivor from the transport, and when the Yishkak made their way toward his ship, he ambushed their scouts. Twice.”
