I drifted. Heat. The ghost of his hands. The places he had not touched, getting their own stupid movie behind my eyelids. I do not know how long I was out. I came back to Sue’s voice in the yard and Andrew being enlisted for an early dinner, which meant the grill, which meant him standing up and taking the problem in his trunks with him.
Carrie asked what time it was. Sue yelled from inside that it was 2 pm.
“Shit,” Carrie said. “I have to be at work in two hours.” She looked at me. “We have to hurry if we are going to get to your place and get you clothes before I leave.”
Sue came back out wiping her hands. “No. Do not worry about it. I will take her later, or Andrew will. I need your help in the kitchen, but you need to shower first and get ready for work.” She turned to Andrew. “The BBQ. Coals are in the garage. Your dad will not be home until late, so we will eat without him. You are on the ribs and corn.”
