Chapter 5
Romance Sex Story: Chapter 5 - This is an old-fashioned romance echoing a song your granny will know. It is a homage to Homer and the Sagas who first told the tales we recycle. Shakespeare used their ideas and so did Star Trek!

Still Alan
Enter Amanda Rose Guthrie
Just two days later, the circus rolled into town. Donald Bain arrived about nine so we could confer in private. We joined Jenn and Henry at half past with their lawyer Andrew. By the time Charles Graham WS arrived at ten precisely, we had our strategy and tactics worked out so far as we could knowing so little of the potential new partner. The opening minutes were spent in introductions. Graham knew Donald and had heard good reports of the firm Andrew worked for. So far so good.
We sent the next few minutes finding seats and telling Jenn how they preferred their coffee or tea. She had found a couple of large flasks. Her thinking was that the visitors would dismiss her as an administrative assistant and would not take her seriously. It was all a bit subtle for me. Alice had arrived in an outfit to quicken the pulse of any warm-blooded male so I would have put her in the front line.
By quarter past the hour, we were settled with only one omission: the prospective buyer had not arrived. Graham explained that she was driving herself and might have got lost, implying that she was a clueless female which caused Jenn’s hackles to rise. Just then the office door opened and Peter walked in with Amy/Amber on his arm. “May I present Amber Rose Guthrie.” She gave him a warm kiss and shooed him away reminding him that they had a dinner date later.
We all rose as she entered. She walked over to hug Jenn, nodded to Graham and gave me a dazzling smile. Jenn fetched her a cup of coffee, and we settled again but now under Amber’s command. She thanked us all for coming at such short notice going on to explain that she had inherited more than a million from her grannie and had gained access to the principal on her recent twenty-fifth birthday.
“This is my first investment, and I’ve brought Mr. Graham to make sure I don’t do anything stupid. That idiot hyphen-Smyth convinced daddy that Pete’s idea was rubbish but I knew that it wasn’t. For the last five years I’ve been going from one department to another as a management trainee – incognito, of course, hence coming here as Amy McGruer. Daddy is not convinced that a woman can run DEW, so he has been introducing me to promising batchelors – Smyth was the latest and the worst.
“As Alan witnessed, mummy also wants me to give her grandchildren. She favours body builders as you saw, Alan, while daddy favours strong men who will keep me under control but do everything he tells them without question. It was so refreshing to be lusted after by Pete when I came here. At last, I was being judged as a woman. That was a pleasant bonus.
“What really impressed me was the science dreamed up by Alan and Peter as well as the financial plan prepared by Jennifer. Alan’s cool behaviour when he was faced with mum’s bodyguard impressed me; here was a man with the balls to tell both daddy and me to piss off, if the occasion demanded it. Doing the ton on the Stirling by-pass certainly did no harm – I got sensations in my groin that I had only previously read about in bodice rippers.
“So here we are. I want the third share you were going to offer to my father.”
She thoroughly approved the plan for her share to be thirty per cent and for Peter to have five per cent for his efforts. Her only condition was that we give her a role in managing the company. “I’ve been learning the theory with DEW and its time to put it in practice.” She then left Henry and me with the lawyers while she and Jenn went off to discuss administrative roles with Alice. By the time we had drafted an agreement they had returned with a scheme already adopted. Amber will be CEO, Jenn CFO and Alice head of human resources, reception and every other admin chore since she is our only other employee.
While Henry took the lawyers to lunch, Alice went out for sandwiches for the rest of us. Amber asked about Project Chloe; Amber and I had a small disagreement about whether it should be offered to a European or an American company. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that the first essential was to recruit Emily. Jenn insisted, backed by Amber and Alice, that I had to offer her the job face to face. Amber was promised the whole story later - in my absence.
Amanda took control at lunch. It was an effortless combination of determination and personality, so I began to understand why Peter and Jennifer were as impressed as they clearly were. Alice was a convert to the growing cult, hanging on every word the new boss uttered. I seemed to be immune except, I reminded myself, when I had her on the back of my motorbike. Perhaps it was the job she assigned me for the afternoon that ruffled my feathers.
Amber, very reasonably, pointed out that while engineers would make the final decision, it was bosses who opened the door. She assigned Peter and Alice - with Henry joining them after he had seen off the lawyers - to prepare a sales brochure for Project Archie. “Don’t tell any obvious lies but make it sexy,” was her advice. Henry baulked, insisting that his first priority was to get Project Barbara onto the shopfloor at Paterson’s. He spent the afternoon with Harry Bellshaw, and they brought Bill, the new chief scientist, on board.
By the time he made that choice, Amanda and Jenn were touring the local estate agents to find a luxury flat for Amanda to move into as soon as she resigned from DEW. She had taken two days annual leave for this visit not wanting her father to know her plans until everything was legally settled. Three days later, she confronted him in his office offering her resignations in one hand and Project Archie in the other. He predictably raged at the resignation but later signed a lucrative contract.
I was ordered to recruit Emily before the day ended. When they all scuttled off to carry out their assignments, I took myself off to Mugdock Country Park to plan my campaign. She had been on my mind since I almost succumbed to lust at the time of her dad’s death. It appears that I have an enormous capacity for self-deception. For years, I had fooled myself into believing that she and I shared an intellectual regard for each other that was far above sex. That illusion was shattered when I almost pounced on her when I dropped her off at her aunt’s home after her interview. Since then, I have acknowledged that my interest was based on carnal desire.
While we were working together at Paterson’s, I built another wall to hide behind. My contention was that Emily had pure thoughts unsullied by any feelings of a romantic nature. Her attack on me on Manic Monday brought that wall tumbling down. It was at that point that I made up my mind to resolve the matter once and for all. The problems over funding the new enterprise occupied all my attention, and I freely admit that I wasn’t sorry to put Emily on the back burner again.
Now I was on the cliff top with Amanda and Jenn hounding me, so it was time to shit or get off the pot. There was bound to be a stink, but I spent the afternoon trying to find a way to minimise the amount of shit that would hit the fan. The best I could come up with, apart from a string of cliches, was that our meeting had to be face to face; I would turn up at her lodgings after work rather than phone for an appointment. My plan beyond that point was vague. I overlooked the presence of her landladies.
I arrived at her digs before she did to be greeted as a long-lost friend by Frances and Anne. “What are you doing here?” was Emily’s first reaction when she let herself into the house. I told her I was there to apologise, and she said that she was the one who owed me an apology. Frances and Ane were listening with undisguised interest so it was clear that there would be no chance of a private talk with Emily. Grasp the nettle, I urged myself.
“I wonder if you would have dinner with me. There are some things I want to discuss.” Frances remarked that she wondered why I was wearing my good suit. Emily was cool: “I can do dinner, but I need an hour to get ready. Pick me up at eight.” With that, she escorted me to the door. I spent the hour in my car wondering what I had let myself in for; there could be no question that we were going on our first date. I was relieved and nervous in equal measure when she got in the car.
