“Alex.”, Medes said to get my attention.
“Now that I can create a holographic body, I think it’s time I took the next step. I am going to try to learn how to become solid. I want to be able to touch things and pick them up. I want to try to be able to interact more fully with the world.”

“While we are on the subject of holograms and illusions, I want to start learning that type of magic.”
“Illusion is a very different kind of magic. It’s probably the hardest magic of all. In one way Illusion is like any other School of Magic. You have to concentrate and build an image in your mind of what you want the illusion to look like and then will it to happen.”
“The difference is what makes it hard. With the other schools you had to go inwards to find the center and put your magic into the essence. With Illusion you have to go the other way. You have to go outwards. You have to find the edge. When you find the edge you have to paint your Mana evenly all over the surface you want to use, similar to what your soul did to open the gate. Then you have to place the image that you created in your mind over the surface and will it to bond.”
“There is a second aspect to Illusion which is much harder to master. You may not want to paint your illusion on a surface, you may want to create your Illusion where there is nothing to bond it to, such as creating something in the middle of a room. Here you have to create your own edge. This is where your Conjuration skills will come in handy. You will have to conjure an essence and an edge to paint your illusion on.”
I saw that I would have to leave the second type of Illusion until later. I had no idea what an edge was or how to find it, let alone conjure one.
I spent all night staring at my coffee cup trying to find it’s edge, and the only thing I succeeded in doing was to give myself eyestrain.
Tina knocking at my door gave me a welcome break from my studies.
“Hi, Alex. How’s things?”
“Pretty good, actually. I’ve just started to study Illusion. What can I do for you?”
“I think I’ve filled my soul with Air Energy. I don’t seem to be able to fit any more it there.”
“That’s great news.”, I said giving her a kiss and groping her ass.
“What’s the next thing on my ‘to do’ list?”
“You have to start circulating you energy around your body.”, I told her and explained what that entailed to her.
“Now that you have a full soul, You need to keep your eyes open to find your gift.”

The next one I tried was Deep Breathe. I filled my lungs with Air Energy and took a deep breath and tried to hold it. I held my first breath for ten minutes. I’d call that a success.
After that I cast Tornado. I created a very, very, very small tornado in my backyard so it wouldn’t cause any damage. Another effect with a self explanatory name.
But the one I really wanted to work, the one that appealed to the kid in me, was levitation. I really wanted to fly and this was the first step in that direction. Levitation along with my earth cloak to keep me invisible would allow me to go just about anywhere I wanted to go with ease.
Unfortunately it was another of those effects that would take a long time to master. I would also have to wait until my invisibility spell was working fully before I could go flying around. Flying wasn’t somethiung I wanted to be seen doing publicly.
“You know, Alex.”, Medes said to me the next afternoon.
“Now that you have all your elements and all your batteries, you should give some thought to making a permanent circle. After all, you’ll probably be wanting to start doing bigger spells now that Tina has filled her soul and Ember is about to join with her soul.”
“That’s a great idea, Medes. Making a circle is easy. And I could go to a furniture store to get a kitchen cabinet to use as an an altar. What else would I need?”
“Since Earth is the foundation of all magic you should paint the floor of the basement black. The circle should be painted white to represent Spirit, the highest of all magic. You’ll want to have your batteries in the circle with you at times so make it at least four meters across so that there is plenty of room for any rituals you may want to do. Buy a small white table of some sort and cover it with a white cloth. It represents Spirit, too.”
I hauled all the stuff still left there out of my basement and stacked it in my front yard. Luckily there wasn’t that much. My previous efforts in this area had gotten rid of about three quarters of it. I think another call to Good Will was in order.
I looked around the big empty room and thought this place needs a good clean out. My phone rang just before I started work. It was Ember wanting to know if she could come over. I told her she was welcome to come over any time, but if she came today I would put her to work helping me clean out my basement. The next thing I knew, I had four ladies telling me to get out of the way so they could have room to work.
