Chapter 9: Nuptials
The week finally passed, and on Saturday, when the bells tolled the tenth hour, Joseph stood in the church wearing his richest clothes. The Worshipful Guild of Merchants was in presence when Hubert led his daughter along the aisle and left her in front of the altar and at Joseph’s side.
“Take good care of my daughter!” he said hoarsely, visibly moved by the moment.
“I shall, Father,” Joseph replied solemnly. He led his bride to the two chairs that had been placed facing the altar.
The Holy Mass started and Father Anselmus conducted it in the time-honoured tradition. Of course, most of it was held in Latin, but in his sermon, Anselmus switched to the Franconian dialect everybody understood, praising the Sacrament of Matrimony and reminding bride and groom of the responsibilities to God, King and parish.
Once that was out of the way, Anselmus started into the wedding ceremony, asking groom and bride the prescribed questions, getting their “Yes, I do,” answers and finally giving them the blessing. After a final Our Father, Anselmus released them and the parishioners.
Outside the church, all the Guilds were assembled to honour the couple. Hubert was a Guild Master and Joseph was already known as being a man of considerable means. Thus the wedding had some impact on the social fabric of the small town.
Hubert then invited his guild brethren and other friends to celebrate the wedding with food and drink. Tables and benches had been assembled from all over the town in front of Hubert and Joseph’s houses, with Hubert providing several piglets roasting over a bed of glowing charcoal, and Joseph offering the drink, namely three kegs of ale and a large cask of wine.
Everybody enjoyed the food, but when two shawm players started to play, bride and groom had to dance first, quickly followed by their guests. The feast lasted into the late afternoon when Joseph and Ursula carried the last roast piglet to the almshouse, for the poorest of Heidingsfeld to share in their happiness. There were a few lonely old men and women in there, but also two men crippled at work and unable to earn a living. The almshouse was run by the Sisters of the St. Ursula order, from their convent in Wirtzburg, and the three sisters present happily shared in the meal.
From there, Joseph and his bride returned to the church where they attended Vespers before returning to their house. Here they found Hubert and his family with some paid helpers, clearing the tables and saving the leftovers. Ursula wanted to join the efforts, but Elsa forbade that. Instead she gave them a plate of cold cuts and an earthen jar of wine for their sustenance and told them to come back in the next morning for breakfast.
Old Gesine had put fresh linens on the bed, and Ursula’s chests had been moved into their bedchamber as well, with her best dresses already hanging in Joseph’s old armoire. A shirt of the finest linen was lying ready for her as well.
The newlyweds regarded the chamber for a moment before Ursula turned to Joseph.
“How are we...?”
Joseph stepped close and pulled her face up, kissing her lips with vigour.
“There are no rules in this room. Let us do what comes naturally.” He remembered something and chuckled. “We must not forget to put a bloodstain on the sheets.”
“Oh!” Ursula gasped. “Should I poke a finger with a needle?”
“No. No harm shall befall my wife in our wedding night,” he grinned, letting go of her and retrieving a small glass vial from his nightstand. Ursula stared at it.
“What is that?”
“I had to commit a sin for your benefit this morn. It is pig’s blood mixed with some of my essence. It should look the part.”
“You...?” Ursula blushed and could not continue.
“I conjured your image up before my eyes when I did it,” Joseph said with a straight face.
Ursula blushed even deeper, but then a grin was tugging at the corners of her mouth.
“Oh husband, dear! The hardships you endure for the sake of my honour!”
He helped her out of the dress then, kissing her skin as it became exposed. Her breasts were not overly big, but well formed, and they stood firmly on her chest. He kissed them, taking his time, before his lips moved lower, to her taut tummy. Then he pushed the fabric down over her hips and finally saw her womanly treasures. Her pubic hair was the same honey blonde as her long tresses, and it was downy soft to his touch.
She inhaled sharply when his fingers parted the curls and caressed her nether lips.
“Will you take me now, Joseph?” she whispered.
“All in good time, my love,” he said, smiling up at her, before his lips moved lower on her body. He rained kisses on her mons, but also on the sensitive flesh of her thighs. He legs opened in invitation, and then she squealed with delight when his tongue tasted her.
“What are you doing, Joseph?”
“Kissing you, tasting you, my love,” Joseph answered before moving in on her sweet spots again with lips and tongue, making her squeal again. Then he suckled on the tiny protruding nubbin at the top of her cleft. A deep moan was his reward.
“Do you like this, sweet Ursula?”
“M-hmmm!” she purred, opening her legs wider for her groom to feast on her womanly flesh. Joseph accepted the offer readily, inserting first one, then two fingers into her wet opening, probing her whilst his tongue attacked her lust centre with verve. Ursula’s hips began move under his touches, meeting the thrusts of his fingers and pressing her little nubbin against his tongue. She was now oozing the nectar of her arousal, and his fingers caused squishing sounds. It was time.
