Poppy and Miss Evans were sniping at each other when I arrived. Things were still tense between them. Poppy might join in our jokes about them being like that couple you know who stopped liking each other, but their dynamic is unusual and it’s hard to say if it’s particularly healthy.
“Hello,” I said, interrupting their back and forth.
“It’s about time, Harry,” Miss Evans said. “Take a seat. You have plenty to catch up on after talking through a two hour lesson today.”
I couldn’t even remember my last detention. Five days of one hour detentions in a row was unheard of. It was the type of thing that another teacher might backtrack on once they got over themselves. Not Miss Evans. She also wasn’t the type to waste her own time with the detention itself. She set us both our tasks before heading off to deal with some errands of her own, or perhaps just relax in the staffroom.
I probably needed the extra time studying. Maths was easily the weakest of my three remaining subjects. It helped that one of my best friends was a genius, and she helped me with a few issues on the mock test questions we had been assigned. Poppy was still in a bad enough mood with her mentor that she wasn’t going to put in 100% of her efforts, however.
“So, a succubus?” she asked.
“Yep,” I said, looking up from the paper on my desk. “I don’t know. I panicked or something.”
“You should have just told her how you feel,” she said, talking about Alice.
“I know, but we’re both glad it worked out this way. She’s getting pretty close with Lily.”
“I’ve never summoned one before.”
“They’re not really supposed to have a body of their own.”
“I bet you’re glad this one does,” she said, before we both laughed. “Go on, you didn’t answer earlier. How was it?”
“The sex?” I asked, and she nodded. “Which one?”
Her mouth fell open. I gave her the eyebrows and she shook her head in disbelief. “You dirty devil. Both.”
“Both amazing, and if you didn’t fuck me over with this detention, both would be happening again right now.”
“It’s about time the rest of you gave me something kinky to talk about. I was so sick of the angelic act you were all putting on. Alice Crawford sharing her lover boy with a demon. I never expected that much out of her. I’m not saying there wasn’t potential though. She always used to talk about how much she wanted to make you her whore.”
I looked over at her, stunned, and she didn’t look like she was joking. “I can’t imagine Grace was talking like that,” I said.
