Chapter 1: Part 3/5

Lily ate her cereal ravenously, and then enjoyed a second bowl. “Nice?” I asked, as she tipped the bowl back to drink the leftover milk.

“I haven’t eaten like this for so long. It’s not the same when you’re sharing a body, same as the sex and everything else,” she said, leaning back in her seat and rubbing her stomach through my hoodie. “I’m inside those guys but I’m not really a part of them. I’m more like a spirit.”

“When were you last in your own body?”

“What year is it?”

“2026.”

“12 years ago.”

“How often do you get summoned?” I asked, more intrigued by the second.

“All the time, but most of them are pretty brief and don’t last long in the memory. I have a pretty faint recollection of most things I do up here, except when it’s like this.”

“I have more questions than you can even imagine.”

“You think I haven’t done this before?” she asked, lightly pushing the bowl in my direction as it sat on the kitchen island. She nodded her head at it until it caught my attention.

“Do you want another one?” I said, and she nodded.

I poured her another bowl and she devoured it like the rest.

My priorities were the impending danger to her life, and what impact that would have on the part of my soul she was carrying. I had to forget about the intrigue for a while, and get some serious answers. “Who is coming for you?”

“Probably my people, which would be fine for both of us. I might end up in suck jail again but they always let me out in the end because all the guards are incubus and I am extremely pretty and lovable. Maybe the Aetherials. That would be quite bad. They will probably send an assassin after me, but there’s a chance they will take me alive and put me on trial.”
