The tie at her waist came loose with a single pull, and the deep red fabric of her kameez sagged open at the front, revealing a sliver of dusky skin beneath.
James watched, his breath caught somewhere between his chest and his throat, as Priya shrugged the garment off her shoulders with a slow, deliberate roll of her body. The salwar kameez pooled at her feet, leaving her in a simple cotton blouse that stopped just below her breasts, her midriff bare. The curve of her stomach, the dip of her navel, the way her hips flared beneath the waistband of her leggings, he drank it all in, each detail imprinting itself on his memory.
She reached for the pins in her hair, and the black mass of it tumbled down around her shoulders. Those light eyes watched him through the curtain of it, dark and hungry.
“You’re staring,” she said.
“I’m appreciating.” His voice came out rougher than he intended. “There’s a difference.”
Her smile was slow, predatory. She stepped closer, close enough that he could see the faint sheen of sweat at her collarbone, smell the jasmine and something muskier beneath. Her fingers found the waistband of his trousers, tracing the line of it. “Your turn,” she murmured. “I’ve been imagining what’s under all these boring clothes since I first saw you at the airport.”
Before he could respond, before he could even think about what she might have imagined, her phone buzzed. Sharp. Insistent. The sound shattered the moment like a stone through glass.
Priya froze. Her hand stilled against his hip, and the heat in her eyes flickered, replaced by something else. Professionalism. Duty.
She pulled the phone from her pocket and glanced at the screen, and her jaw tightened.
“Fuck.” The word came out flat, controlled.
She read the message, her eyes moving quickly across the screen, and then she looked up at him with genuine frustration in those pale depths.
“I have to go.”
“Now?” The word came out before he could stop it.
“Now.”
She was already bending to retrieve her kameez, stepping back into it, her movements swift and practiced. The tie at her waist was re-knotted in seconds. The pins went back into her hair with mechanical efficiency. In less than a minute, she was fully dressed again, the woman who had been stripping for him now composed and professional.
She crossed to the door, then paused. Turned. For a moment, that mask slipped, and he saw the real Priya beneath, frustrated, hungry, unwilling to leave.
“I’m sorry, James.” Her voice was softer now. “This is ... not how I wanted this to go.”
He took a step toward her, then stopped himself. “When will you be back?”
“I don’t know.”
She hesitated, her hand on the door handle. “But I will be. I promise you that.” And then she was gone, slipping through the door and out into the night, leaving him alone in the humid dark of his hotel room, his cock still straining against his trousers, his mind spinning with questions and want.
The next three days passed in a haze of frustration. James wandered Delhi alone, visiting the places she’d shown him, replaying their moments together like a film on loop. The way she’d laughed at Karim’s. The way her foot had brushed against his ankle. The way she’d looked at him in this very room, that hungry light in her eyes, just before her phone had torn them apart.
He tried to distract himself. Visited the Red Fort, walked the gardens of Lodi, even took a day trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise. The marble mausoleum was stunning, exactly as beautiful as every photograph promised, and he couldn’t concentrate on any of it.
His handler messaged him again. Status report overdue.
He sent back a brief, vague update, sightseeing, no leads, will report soon.
The lie tasted bitter, but he didn’t care. The only thing he cared about was the woman who had vanished into the Delhi night with a promise on her lips.
