The room Priya led him to was a small guesthouse tucked behind a spice shop, the air thick with cumin and cardamom.

She unlocked a heavy wooden door and gestured him inside. The space was sparse, a cot with a thin mattress, a ceiling fan that shuddered on every rotation, and a single window looking out onto a clothesline strung between buildings.

She moved with the ease of someone who owned the room, filling a battered kettle from a plastic jug and setting it on a hot plate.

“Sit,” she said, nodding at the cot. “Tea?”

James sat. The springs creaked under his weight. He watched her work, the way her fingers handled the loose-leaf tea with practiced precision, the way her salwar kameez shifted when she bent to light the burner. Those light eyes caught the flame and reflected it back, almost amber in the dim room.

She said nothing until the tea was steeped and poured into two chipped ceramic cups. She handed him one, their fingers brushing in the exchange. Her skin was warm. Smooth.

“So,” she said, settling onto the room’s single chair, her legs crossed, the fabric of her kameez pulling taut across her thighs. “Canada. It’s cold there, isn’t it?”

“Depends on the season,” he said, lifting the cup. The tea was strong, sweet, laced with ginger. “Right now, Toronto is probably thawing out. We get these long winters. Snow up to your knees some days.”

She sipped her tea, watching him over the rim. “And you left all that snow to come here? To Delhi’s heat and noise and chaos?”

“I like to travel. See new places.”

“Tourists usually go to Agra. See the Taj Mahal. Maybe Jaipur, for the palaces.” She tilted her head. “They don’t usually wander through the alleys of Old Delhi alone, doubling back through markets, hiding behind temple pillars.”

James smiled into his cup. “I like to avoid the crowds.”

“Mmm.” The sound was noncommittal. She set her cup down and leaned forward, and the neckline of her kameez gaped just enough to show the upper swell of her breasts, dusky and smooth. “The Gandharva Mahavidyalaya is worth seeing. It’s a music school, very old. And the Chandni Chowk market, of course. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten paratha at dawn in Chandni Chowk.”

“You sound like a tour guide.”

“I am,” she said, and her smile turned sly. “Among other things. I grew up here, Mr. Blackwood. I know every corner of this city, the ones the guidebooks mention and the ones they don’t.”

“Call me James.” The name hung between them.

She tested it on her tongue. “James.” The way she said it, with that British-tinged accent, made it sound different. Intimate. She picked up her tea again. “How long are you staying in Delhi?”

“I haven’t decided yet. A week. Maybe two.”

“Then you’ll need someone to show you around.” She said it casually, but her gaze was sharp. Calculating. “I could take you to the old forts. The gardens. The temples. Away from the tourist traps.”

He considered her. A counter-intelligence agent offering to be his private tour guide. There were a thousand reasons this could go wrong. She could be luring him somewhere isolated to interrogate him. To neutralize him. But the way she kept looking at his mouth, the way her thumb traced the rim of her cup in slow circles...

“I’d like that,” he said.

“Good.” She finished her tea and set the cup aside with a decisive click. “Tomorrow morning, then. Eight o’clock. We’ll start with the Jama Masjid, before the crowds get too thick.”

On the surface, it was a simple arrangement. A tour guide. A tourist. But the air in the room had grown heavy, charged with something that had nothing to do with sightseeing.

“Thank you for the tea,” James said, rising. His cock was half-hard again, pressing against his trousers. He shifted to hide it. She noticed anyway, he saw the flicker of her gaze, the slight curl at the corner of her mouth.

“Of course.” She rose too, and for a moment they stood close together near the door. Her scent washed over him, jasmine, and beneath it, something warmer. Musky.

“Until tomorrow, James.”

He stepped out into the afternoon glare, his pulse hammering. The city roared around him, indifferent.

Dinner that night was at a rooftop restaurant near his hotel, a place recommended by the desk clerk. The menu was extensive, the curry fragrant with spices he couldn’t name. But James found he couldn’t concentrate on the food. Priya had given him her number, her personal number, she’d said, not the office one. and he’d texted her to confirm the itinerary. She’d replied within seconds.

Looking forward to it.
