Chapter 4

Romance Sex Story: Chapter 4 - At 54, Emily buys a century home in small-town Ontario to start over. She hires Cole, the skilled 25-year-old contractor who sees the house—and her—clearly. As walls come down, so does her careful restraint. Heat builds through long days of dust and honest work. An age-gap romance of renovation, restraint, and the quiet courage to want more.

The estate sale was on a side road ten minutes south of town, a yellow brick farmhouse with a handwritten sign and a field already filling with trucks. Emily had seen the listing online Friday night and decided, without examining the decision too closely, that Cole should come.

She texted him at seven.

Estate sale off 19. Lighting and possible hardware. Useful for the house. I’ll drive if you want.

He answered eight minutes later.

I’ll drive. Pick you up at eight-thirty.

He arrived in clean jeans and a grey shirt that had seen less work than the ones he wore on site. She had put on a linen shirt and dark trousers and told herself it was because estate sales were dusty, not because she had thought about what she looked like standing next to him.

The house was the usual mix of genuine and junk. Emily moved through the rooms the way she always did, touching nothing until she had looked at everything twice. Cole followed without crowding her. He picked up a pair of old brass switch plates and turned them over in his hands.

“These would work in the upstairs hall,” he said. “If you want to keep the look.”

She took one from him. The weight was right. The patina was honest.

“Yes. Those.”

They found the lighting in what had been the dining room. A pair of frosted-glass pendants, probably 1920s, the brass darkened but intact. Emily wanted both. The woman running the sale wanted more than they were worth.

“They’re not original to this house,” Cole said, quiet enough that only she heard. “And one of the sockets is cracked. You’re paying for the story.”

“I’m paying for the glass,” she said. “The story is free.”

He almost smiled. “You’re going to be a problem on finishes.”

“I already am.”

They argued about it for another minute, good-natured, the kind of back-and-forth that felt like work and also did not. She bought both pendants. He carried them to the truck along with a box of old glass knobs, a small pine side table she had no immediate use for, and a rolled rag rug the colour of wet sand.

The cab of the truck smelled like coffee and cut grass. On the drive back he kept one wrist over the top of the wheel and glanced at her when the road straightened.

“You always this decisive when you’re spending other people’s money,” he said, “or only when it’s yours?”

“I was worse when it was other people’s. I had to justify every choice to someone who didn’t live with it.”

“And now?”
