Chapter 11

Romance Sex Story: Chapter 11 - At 54, Emily buys a century home in small-town Ontario to start over. She hires Cole, the skilled 25-year-old contractor who sees the house—and her—clearly. As walls come down, so does her careful restraint. Heat builds through long days of dust and honest work. An age-gap romance of renovation, restraint, and the quiet courage to want more.

Emily’s flight landed late Sunday afternoon. Cole was at the small airport in the green truck, same as the outbound trip. She had not asked him to come. He had texted that he was already in town for a hardware run.

“How bad is it?” she said when she opened the door.

He glanced at her, then back at the road.

“Define bad.”

The house told her the rest. In the kitchen a section of subfloor along the sink wall had come up in soft, dark pieces. A pipe in the old chase had failed while she was gone, not a disaster, enough to soak the cavity and stall the tile. The delayed vanities for the upstairs bath were now a week out. Dust and dehumidifier hum filled the main floor. Dan and Mike had gone home at noon. Cole had stayed.

Emily set her suitcase in the hall and stood in the ruined kitchen with her coat still on.

“You didn’t say a pipe burst.”

“I said we had a problem. You were at a birthday party.”

“I can do both.”

“I know.”

The edge in her voice surprised her. The edge in his did too. They were both tired. The house smelled like wet wood. Lily’s wrapping paper and Sophia’s kitchen felt a long way off.

They worked anyway. She changed into old clothes and helped him pull the last of the bad subfloor. He cut new stock in the driveway. Neither of them talked more than the job required. When she handed him a board that was a half inch short he said so more sharply than he needed to. When he tracked wet grit across the studio floor she told him to watch his feet. He stopped, looked at her, and set the board down.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “Long day. Longer week.”

“Same. I shouldn’t have snapped.”

“Same.”

By six the wet section was open, dry, and ready for morning. The house still felt like a problem. Emily washed her hands at the temporary sink and stared at the gap in the floor.

Cole came in from the truck with his keys already in his hand.

“We should get out of here. Both of us. Dinner. Somewhere that isn’t this kitchen.”

She almost said no. The air mattress, the unpacked bag, the sensible early night. Sophia’s voice from Friday sat in the way.

“All right. Not the steak place. I don’t want to put the suit back on.”
