“Pl-please, Lord Iakovos.”

“No.”

In my embrace, Lisandra continued to quiver. Beneath a black satin evening gown that enhanced every magical curve, sped the heartbeat of a rabbit, hammering stiff pokies into my shirt between an open suit jacket. Yet one wrist sported a slim cast, and bandages peeked atop a bare shoulder. Plus, while her makeup did wonders, hints of discoloration marred an eye socket.

My growl got her husband’s eyes to flash. He was hovering at the entrance to the hotel suite.

Another of my properties. Again, up in frigid Canada. After his call, I’d never moved so fast. Hadn’t slowed until his warm, trembling wife found my embrace.

Sharp teeth nipped my chin.

“Still, no,” I muttered, adding a snarl that made them both tense.

Instead of thin leather tight to her neck, the elegant beauty wore swooping lengths of thick gold to match heavy earrings that flashed as she inspected my face. Heck, I hadn’t even brought the rawhide leash.

“What happened?” I asked, lowering myself into an overstuffed armchair.

Luka’s high-pitched voice echoed, “I told her it was too—”

“Not you!” I glared at him while guiding his wife onto my lap. “Shut up! I’ll get to you later.”

A swift curling of my lip got him to whimper and take a step backward. He smacked into the wall beside the exit and yipped.

Another bite on my chin brought me to gleaming dark irises. Although her hand swept a slender strap from her shoulder, before the dress could fall, I slid the straining cord back into place.

Her lips parted, ready to plead again, but my finger landed on crimson waxiness. Those eyes flashed, then twinkled as her tongue swept the digit. By all rights, I shouldn’t have let her draw my finger into her mouth to be suckled, but I did.

To be honest, we both needed that simple gesture. Fear drained from me. She was injured but had survived. As delicate fingers rose to grip my wrist, holding my hand in place, my glare again found her husband; another yip escaped the suddenly smaller man, and his gaze dropped.

“Tell me, Lisandra of the Dusk Pride,” I said, forcing a grin.

Eyes twinkling and cheeks collapsing, she sucked hard enough that my trousers pulsed beneath her. While wriggling her butt, she lashed the trapped digit with a talented tongue. Wow, the pleasure rippling through me grew intense, but...

“Bad doggy,” I mumbled.

Her fist eased my hand away. The shiny finger, smeared with red lipstick, left with an audible plop, and slender fingers released me to again sweep the strap off her shoulder. That time I let the dress tumble, baring a full breast. Its thick nipple was begging for me as much as her unblinking gaze.

“Hmm, very bad, my lord.” She giggled, then hissed when a glossy red nail caressed the underside of the spikey stem. “And, uh, sure, take me doggy-style.”

A heavy sigh left me, blowing stray wisps of fine sable from her grin. Once more, teeth nipped my chin as vivid eyes flashed.

Yep, the problem with rituals. Okay, so there was much more between us than any damn ritual.

Proof?

When she leaned closer, readying for another playful bite, I moved quicker.

My lips mashed waxiness, drawing a moan, dripping with hunger, from the lithe, warm, trembling creature. My hand shoved her fingers aside to maul that hefty, silken breast. With a much louder moan, she shoved into me. A sudden upward thrust of my hips gained me a full-throated groan.

Soon enough, tickling sable tresses swirled as she squirmed in my embrace. The delicate perfume on her skin mixed with a sweeter scent, drawing on our primal connection. Her eyes flashed, and that wondrous boob drove into my palm, mashing my hand to my suit jacket.

Despite every nerve sizzling, aglow with the need to have her once more, a clock was ticking, and I tore my lips from hers. Those glimmering irises blazed as she battered me with rapid, heated puffs. When my fingers began to leave her chest, she clutched my wrist. Could’ve pulled away, but ... didn’t. Instead, I cupped the firm globe and eased her further from me.

With a shaky sigh, her head landed on my shoulder. Those hot breaths sluiced around my neck like swift-dancing desert sciroccos.

“Tell me,” I directed.

“You will mate with me?”

“Yeah, but afterward.”

Teeth tugged at the shirt collar. “All night, Lord Iakovos?”

“Sure.”

“It was as you said. This female, Cherise. Not easy to track. A wily one, and deceit is her realm. Plus, foulness trails her like a warm carcass.”

Again, her bite pulled on my shirt; I let her play and stayed silent. Her hand left my wrist to roam my chest, but I kept my grip loose on the weighty breast. The quick beating of her heart matched mine, refusing to slow.

“She laid a trap. I avoided it. The second ... Those who serve her ... they are stronger than normal. Faster. I found the location, but...”

“You went alone?”

She was silent, and a glance showed her peeking at her husband. While still leaning against the wall and watching us, he’d slumped lower.

“Yes, lord,” she whispered.

“That was foolish.”

A tiny whine left her; a matching one sounded from across the room.

“Yes, lord.”

“But thank you, Lisandra of the Dusk Pride.”

Sable whirled. She bit into my shoulder, deep enough to ache. Her eyes flashed at me. Sharp fingernails clawed along the shirt, dragging my tie. The fire-tipped boob shoved into my palm, and her rear ground against the achy stiffness trapped in my silk trousers. A low keening noise sent ripples through my body and soul.

Another second, and I’d have taken her on the floor. Instead, I rose from the chair; she stayed glued to me. My hand again tried to leave the firm, warm breast, but once more her grip found my wrist. Chest thumping, I permitted her to hold it in place while my scowl pinned her husband.

“She is your wife,” I said, letting a growl fill every word. “A leader of your pack.”

“Yes, Lord—”

“Shut up, Luka!”

He yipped and hugged himself while curling inward, imitating a child desperate to hide from a parent’s glare.

“Her value to me is inestimable,” I continued in the same growling tone. “Know what that means?”

He nodded.

“Good. We have maintained this pact for many years. Don’t make me ... regret that decision.”

He shook his head. My scowl intensified. As though shadows suddenly appeared, swaddling him, he became the tiniest of creatures and began to yip.

My gaze found the pair of dark jewels locked on me.

“Strip and get onto the bed.”

A quick laugh, a nip of my chin, and his wife was gone. Pure primal instinct had her charging for an open doorway. As the lustrous sable mane swirled, the dress flailed free of a toned, olive frame. Such incredible sleekness. A born hunter, with centuries of experience, yet she’d been ambushed.
