Chapter 14: Auntie’s Call

Erotica Sex Story: Chapter 14: Auntie’s Call - He left Nigeria as a boy. Berlin made him something else. Tolu has always been the golden child—the obedient son, the scholarship winner, the one who made his mother proud. But inside, he's hollow. His father's death left him hungry for something he can't name. Control. Power. Meaning. When his aunt places a leather-bound journal in his hands on the night before his departure, she gives him more than notes on psychology and leverage. She gives him a key to who he could become.

The call came early, before the sun had fully settled on the buildings outside my window. I was still in bed, staring at the ceiling, when the phone started vibrating. Auntie Adewale’s name showed on the screen. I almost let it ring out. Then I answered.

Her face appeared after a few seconds of buffering. The connection was weak. Behind her I could see the familiar wall of the sitting room in Lagos, the same framed photo of my late father that had been hanging there for years.

“Tolu.”

“Good morning, Auntie.”

“Is it morning there?”

“Just about.”

She did not smile. Her eyes looked tired.

“I have been trying to reach you for three days. Your mother said you are always busy. Is that true?”

“I have a lot of work.”

“Work.” She repeated the word like she was testing its weight. “Your mother received a letter yesterday from the family lawyer. The land at Ikorodu. The one your father left in the family name. There is a dispute. Someone is claiming part of it. The lawyer says if nobody from this side responds properly, we may lose more than we should.”

I sat up. The sleep left my body at once.

“How bad is it?”

“Bad enough that your mother could not sleep. Bad enough that she called me at night. The younger ones are useless with these things. Your cousin tried to talk to the lawyer and only made the man more impatient. We need someone who can read the papers carefully and ask the right questions. That someone is supposed to be you.”

I rubbed my face. “I can look at the documents if you send them.”

“Looking is not enough. Your mother needs to hear your voice. She needs to know that the boy she sent to Germany has not disappeared into thin air. You keep saying you are building a life there. Building means something has to carry weight. Right now the weight is falling on her.”

The words sat heavily between us. I nodded.

“I will call her today.”

“Do more than call. Read the letter. Speak to the lawyer if necessary. Do not leave it floating.”

“I understand.”

She watched me through the screen for a moment. The connection flickered. Her face froze, then returned.

“You look thin,” she said.

“I’m fine.”

“You do not sound fine. You sound like a man trying to keep five plates in the air.”

I gave a short, empty laugh. “Work is demanding. And there are some complicated friendships.”

“Friendships.”

“Yes.”

She tilted her head slightly. “Are you choosing people, or are you choosing situations where everyone needs something from you?”

The question landed harder than I expected. I looked away from the camera for a second.

“It’s not that simple.”

“It never is. That is why I am asking.”

I did not answer immediately. Outside my window a truck reversed and beeped. The sound felt too loud.

“There is one person,” I said slowly. “She may be facing some pressure that is connected to me. Nothing clear yet. But it is there.”

Auntie did not ask for the name. She did not ask for the details.

“And what are you doing about it?”

“I’m still trying to understand the size of it.”

“While you are understanding, is she carrying it alone?”

I stayed quiet.

The call dropped.

The screen went black. I sat staring at it, the sound of my own breathing suddenly noticeable in the room. I redialled. It took three attempts before her face came back, slightly more pixelated than before.
