Chapter 9: The Rings

Romance Sex Story: Chapter 9: The Rings - 'THE O'SHEA FAMILY STORY' was going to be the title of my next book. One day,as I was writing another chapter, I realized the word count was approaching Tolstoy's 'War and Peace'! Who has time to read something that long? Not me and I'm retired! I decided to break it up into stand-alone stories. This one is the longest simply because I could not find a good place to cut it in half. The numbers show the chronological order of the story. NOT AI generated, all me.

JACK

Everything went very well after I heard that conversation. Both families enjoyed themselves and were happy that the girls were content and enjoying their new lives. The parents realized that they were living out their dreams.

The next morning I got busy early. First, I called Father Joseph at the Catholic Church. He was a good friend who had presided over the funeral of my family. He often kidded me that while I was rarely at Sunday mass he always remembered me in his prayers. After exchanging pleasantries, I asked if he could preside over a wedding between the girls and me. He said he would love to do it but that his bishop would have him excommunicated if he performed that type of wedding. But then he says, “Give me a couple of days, I will get in touch with someone who may be able to help you.” I told him thanks and to keep praying for me. I went back to work.

At noon I went up to the house to eat lunch with the girls and during lunch I asked what they had planned for this afternoon. Ginger was still working on the taxes and Becky was doing laundry. I say, “Nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow, right?” They both agree so I tell them that after we finish eating we need to get ready to go to Memphis. I have some shopping to do. They both look puzzled and I offered no explanation. I tell them to be ready to go in an hour. I get up and go upstairs and take a shower and put on some casual clothes. I get my money market checkbook out of the bedside drawer and go downstairs to wait for them. They come down in a few minutes looking as beautiful as ever in their little sundresses and high heel sandals. I tell them I want to take the Impala and that immediately starts a discussion about who is going to sit next to me. I love these little arguments. It is decided that Ginger will sit next to me on the way up to Memphis and Becky on the way back. I promise to take them to supper at a nice steakhouse before we come home so Becky will not have to cook when we get back. They both keep wanting to know where we are going and I will not tell them. We pass the mall and get into east Memphis where there are a lot of strip malls and nice stores. I pull into one and park in front of a jewelry store. They both scream at the same time. Ginger says, “Jack, this better not be one of your unfunny jokes.” I just look at her like I don’t know what she is talking about and get out and open the passenger side door for the girls. We walk into the store and I go directly to the showcase with the wedding rings. I turn and look at them and say, “Pick out whatever you want but just remember you are going to be wearing it for the rest of your lives.” They are both staring at the rings when the saleslady asks, “Which one of you is the lucky girl?” Becky answers, “We both are!” The lady just looks at them like they are crazy. Then Ginger says to Becky, “Let’s get matching rings.”

“Great idea,” says Becky.

They choose one set. The saleslady hands it to Ginger and she tries it on, models it on her hand and takes it off and passes it to Becky who does the same. They decide no they don’t like it and hand it back. This is repeated six or seven times until they find one set that they both agree on. They call me over from the comfortable chair I had found. I knew this was going to take a while. I agreed that what they picked out was beautiful. (I may be a clueless man, but I ain’t stupid!)

They say that they want two identical sets. The saleslady says to wait here a minute while she talks to the owner. In a couple of minutes this little fat jolly looking man comes out of the back. He looks exactly what you would think a jeweler would look like. He is even wearing the thick glasses with the little lens above his left eye to magnify whatever he is working on. He shakes my hand and looks at the two girls.

“You are a very lucky man. What exactly can I help you with?”

I tell him to let the girls explain it to him. Becky starts with Ginger interrupting and pointing out things that she thinks Becky missed. He looks at me and asks, “I can have both rings ready by Friday. How much do you want to spend? That is so I will know what quality of diamonds to use.”

I look at the girls and say, “$25,000.00 on each ring.”

There is total silence in the store. That is a big sale for one ring but for two on the same day! I tell him they must be exactly the same, not only in looks but in quality of the diamonds as well. He promises they will be. He tells me he needs a deposit so I wrote him a check for one ring and tell him the balance will be paid when we pick up the rings on Friday. Ginger takes the receipt. We shake hands and say we will be back on Friday morning. By now it is 4pm, still too early for supper. I ask the girls if they have anywhere, they would like to go before we eat.

Becky asked me to take them to the mall.

As we enter the mall there is a little café in the middle serving coffee and pastries. Becky asks me to get a coffee and sit and wait for them there. They head off down the mall as I get my coffee and find a seat. I figure I have another hour or so to wait.

GINGER

“OK Becky, why did you want to come to the mall?” I ask as we head off in the direction of the big Dillard’s department store.

“First let’s go to the restroom.”

As we enter, she checks to make sure we are the only ones there then she grabs me and starts crying. “He bought us rings and said we will wear them forever!!”

I start crying too and we jump up and down like little girls again. “And the price! Nobody I know has a ring that costs that much. This just keeps getting better and better!!”

About that time, an older lady enters the restroom. She asks if everything is alright. We explain that we just got engaged. She questions, “Both of you?”

“Yes, both of us!”

Then she asks if the grooms to be are brothers. Becky laughs and looks at me and says, “No just one guy, he is marrying us both.”

The lady goes into a stall, does her business, exits the stall and washes her hands. She leaves without saying another word to us. We continue to hug until Becky says she needs pee. We wash our faces and apply a little makeup and as we are exiting, I ask Becky where we are going. She tells me we are going to buy some sexy nightgowns and PJs to wear for Jack. I tell her I probably have twenty dollars and a gas credit card. She says not to worry she ‘borrowed’ $500 from Jack’s bedside drawer.

So off we go. We do not find exactly what we want at Dillard’s, but the salesgirl says there is a new store down the mall that has what we want. We hurry down there and find exactly what we were looking for. In fact, we find a lot of things. So much so that I do a quick addition and tell Becky we are finished. We have spent a little over $450!
