A gentle rain fell over the city on Thursday morning, leaving the streets glistening beneath the pale sunrise.

Vivian stood beneath the entrance canopy of L&B Interior Studio, closing her umbrella before stepping inside.

“Good morning, Miss Hart,” the receptionist greeted with a cheerful smile.

“Good morning.”

The words still sounded unfamiliar.

Miss Hart.

Each time she heard them, she was reminded that she existed as more than someone’s wife.

She had a name.

A career.

A future she was beginning to build with her own hands.

As she entered the design department, she found Lena already studying several blueprints spread across the conference table.

“There you are,” Lena said with a smile. “I was hoping you’d come a little early.”

Vivian placed her portfolio on the table.

“Is everything alright?”

Lena nodded.

“The Morrison family loved your presentation yesterday.”

“They’ve officially signed the contract.”

Vivian’s face lit up.

“That’s wonderful.”

“It gets better.”

Lena handed her another folder.

“They’ve recommended our studio to two other clients.”

Vivian looked genuinely surprised.

“So soon?”

“They were impressed by your work.”

Chris, who had been listening nearby, let out a dramatic sigh.

“I’ve been trying to get referrals for months.”

“You’ve been here less than a week.”

Daniel laughed.

“Accept the fact that she’s talented.”

Chris folded his arms.

“I accept it.”

“I just don’t have to like it.”

The room erupted in laughter.

Vivian couldn’t help laughing with them.

The studio had become a place where she could breathe.

Across the city, Adrian’s morning was very different.

Kingsley Group Headquarters was already overflowing with meetings.

“Mr. Kingsley, the legal team is waiting.”

“The overseas investors have arrived.”

“The board members are asking for your approval.”

Every minute of his schedule had been planned weeks in advance.

His assistant walked beside him, handing over another file.

“You also have dinner with the charity committee this evening.”

Adrian nodded without looking up.

“Move it to eight.”

“Very well, sir.”

As he entered his office, Ethan followed behind carrying several folders.

“Sir, your mother called.”

“What did she want?”

“She reminded you about Olivia’s engagement dinner next weekend.”

“I remember.”

Ethan hesitated.

“She also asked whether Mrs. Kingsley would be attending.”

Adrian paused briefly.

“She’ll come.”

It wasn’t a question.

He simply assumed Vivian would be there.

Just as she always had been.

At noon, Vivian joined Mia and Daniel for lunch in a small café across the street from the studio.

The café wasn’t luxurious.

It wasn’t famous.

But it was warm, lively, and filled with laughter.

Mia stirred her iced tea before smiling at Vivian.

“So...”

“I’ve been wondering.”

“What made you choose interior design?”

Vivian looked down at her cup.

“When I was little...”

“I spent a lot of time moving from one place to another.”

“I always believed a home wasn’t defined by the building.”

“It was defined by how safe it made you feel.”

Daniel listened quietly.

“So now you create that feeling for other people.”

Vivian smiled.

“I hope so.”

Mia reached across the table.

“I think you’re already doing it.”

Vivian felt warmth spread through her chest.

It had been years since anyone had believed in her dreams so openly.

That evening, Vivian left the studio later than usual.

She had spent nearly two extra hours perfecting the hotel lounge proposal.

By the time she reached Kingsley Mansion, darkness had settled over the estate.

Mrs. Eleanor welcomed her with a smile.

“You’ve been working hard.”

Vivian laughed softly.

“I lost track of time.”

“I made your favorite soup.”

“Thank you.”

As they walked toward the dining room, Vivian noticed only one place had been set at the table.

“Mr. Kingsley?”

“He called.”

“He’ll be late again.”

Vivian nodded.

“Then let’s not waste the food.”

She sat down and began eating.

Not because she had stopped caring.

But because she had stopped waiting.

Upstairs, the dining room clock continued ticking.

For the first time in three years...

No one was watching it, hoping Adrian would walk through the front door before dinner grew cold.

And although Adrian didn’t know it yet...

That tiny change was the beginning of many others.

Vivian finished dinner just before eight o’clock.

Mrs. Eleanor collected the empty dishes while Vivian poured herself a glass of warm water.

“You’ve been smiling more lately,” Mrs. Eleanor said gently.

Vivian looked up in surprise.

“Have I?”

The older woman nodded.

“Not all the time.”

“But it’s real when it happens.”

Vivian looked down at the glass in her hands.

“I think...”
