Tuesday arrived with clear skies.
Vivian had barely settled into her office when her phone buzzed.
A message from Adrian.
> Good luck with today’s client presentation. You’ll do great.
She stared at the screen for a moment.
No unnecessary words.
No pleading.
Just encouragement.
She slipped her phone into her bag and headed for the conference room.
Two hours later...
The presentation ended with applause.
The client stood and extended his hand.
“Miss Vivian, your vision is exactly what we were looking for.”
“We’d like to move forward.”
Lena smiled proudly.
“Thank you. We look forward to working together.”
As everyone left the room, Chris nudged Vivian’s shoulder.
“I hope you’re ready.”
“For what?”
“Your workload is about to double.”
Vivian laughed.
“I asked for this.”
“And now you’ve got it.”
That evening...
Vivian stopped at a supermarket on her way home.
Her trolley was half full when she heard a familiar voice.
“You’re buying instant noodles again?”
She turned.
Adrian stood a few feet away, holding a basket.
He smiled awkwardly.
“I wasn’t following you.”
“I came here after work.”
Vivian raised an eyebrow.
“What a coincidence.”
“It is.”
For a second, neither of them moved.
Then Adrian looked into her trolley.
“You’re out of cereal.”
Vivian blinked.
“How do you know that?”
“You looked in the cupboard this morning.”
“You frowned.”
“I checked after you left.”
“So I figured you’d buy some today.”
Vivian stared at him.
He really had started paying attention.
Adrian picked up a box of her favorite cereal from the shelf and placed it gently into her trolley.
“You always buy this brand.”
Vivian looked at the box.
“You remembered.”
“I wrote it down.”
She couldn’t help smiling.
“You really have a notebook?”
Adrian pulled a small black notebook from his jacket pocket.
“It goes everywhere with me.”
Vivian laughed.
“You weren’t joking.”
He opened it.
Inside were handwritten notes.
Vanilla latte.
No coffee after 6 p.m.
Favorite cereal.
Always carries headache tablets in her handbag.
Likes window seats.
Vivian’s smile slowly faded.
She looked at him quietly.
“When did you write all this?”
“After you gave me the divorce papers.”
She closed the notebook gently.
“I spent years wishing you’d know these things.”
Adrian lowered his eyes.
“I know.”
“And that’s something I’ll regret for the rest of my life.”
Neither of them spoke.
The supermarket buzzed with shoppers around them, but for those few moments...
It felt as if they were the only two people there.
As they walked toward the checkout, Vivian noticed a little girl crying near the entrance.
She couldn’t have been older than five.
She was standing alone, tears running down her cheeks.
Vivian immediately walked over.
“Sweetheart...”
“Are you lost?”
The little girl nodded.
“I can’t find my mummy.”
Vivian knelt to her level.
“It’s okay.”
“We’ll help you.”
Adrian had already signaled one of the store employees.
Within minutes, an announcement echoed through the supermarket asking the child’s mother to come to the customer service desk.
A woman came running, panic written all over her face.
“There you are!”
She hugged the little girl tightly before turning to Vivian and Adrian.
“Thank you so much.”
Vivian smiled.
“I’m just glad she’s safe.”
The woman looked between them and smiled warmly.
“You two have such a lovely family.”
Vivian and Adrian froze.
Before either of them could explain, the woman laughed.
“You’ll make wonderful parents someday.”
She took her daughter’s hand and walked away.
