Monday morning arrived faster than Vivian expected.
She adjusted the collar of her blazer before checking the time.
8:15 a.m.
She needed to be at L&B Interior Studio early to prepare for her first video conference with the overseas team.
As she reached for her handbag, Adrian walked out of the kitchen.
“I made breakfast.”
Vivian smiled politely.
“I’ll be late if I eat.”
Without saying a word, Adrian picked up a paper bag from the counter and handed it to her.
“I thought you might say that.”
She looked inside.
A neatly wrapped sandwich.
Fresh fruit.
A bottle of juice.
And a small note.
> Eat before your meeting. You think better when you’re not hungry.
Vivian looked at him.
“You remembered?”
Adrian smiled.
“You used to skip breakfast whenever you had an important presentation.”
“I didn’t notice then.”
“I notice now.”
Vivian quietly closed the paper bag.
“Thank you.”
She walked toward the door.
Just before leaving, she paused.
“I’m taking my car.”
“I know.”
“I wasn’t going to stop you.”
She nodded once before leaving.
At L&B Interior Studio...
Chris walked into the meeting room carrying his laptop.
“You look nervous.”
Vivian laughed softly.
“A little.”
“You’ve presented to tougher clients.”
“This is different.”
Daniel joined them.
“The overseas team already thinks you’re impressive.”
“They’ve seen your portfolio.”
Chris grinned.
“They’re the nervous ones.”
Before Vivian could respond, Lena entered.
“Everyone ready?”
The room fell silent.
The large screen came to life.
One by one, faces from the overseas office appeared.
Design managers.
Project coordinators.
Senior architects.
A man with silver hair smiled warmly.
“Good morning, Miss Vivian.”
“We’ve heard wonderful things about you.”
Vivian smiled professionally.
“Thank you.”
“I hope we can work well together.”
For the next hour...
The meeting flowed naturally.
Vivian answered every question with confidence.
She explained her design concepts clearly.
Even when challenged, she remained calm.
When the meeting ended, the overseas director smiled.
“I can see why Lena recommended you.”
“We’re looking forward to having you here.”
The screen went black.
Chris immediately clapped.
“I told you!”
Daniel laughed.
“You handled that perfectly.”
Lena smiled with quiet pride.
“I never doubted you.”
Vivian let out the breath she’d been holding.
One step closer.
That evening...
Vivian left the office later than usual.
As she reached the parking lot, she noticed Adrian sitting on a bench near the entrance.
Not leaning against his car.
Not waiting by hers.
Just ... sitting.
Reading a book.
He looked up when he heard her footsteps.
“You’re still here?”
He closed the book.
“I finished work early.”
“So I brought this.”
He held up a small paper cup.
“Hot chocolate.”
Vivian looked confused.
“I don’t drink coffee after six.”
“You can’t sleep if you do.”
She stared at him.
He remembered.
Adrian smiled awkwardly.
“I’ve been writing things down.”
“What?”
“The little things about you.”
“So I don’t forget them again.”
Vivian didn’t know what to say.
She accepted the cup.
It was warm against her hands.
“Thank you.”
Adrian stood.
“I’ll let you get home.”
He started walking toward his car.
“Adrian.”
He turned.
She hesitated for only a second.
Then asked quietly,
“ ... Would you like to walk with me for a few minutes?”
Adrian’s eyes widened.
He smiled.
“I’d like that.”
They walked side by side through the quiet parking lot.
Neither of them spoke.
Neither of them needed to.
For the first time in a very long time...
The silence between them felt peaceful instead of painful.
