The rain fell steadily over the city.

Vivian stepped out of L&B Interior Studio, clutching a folder against her chest as she hurried toward the entrance.

She stopped.

A familiar black sedan was parked across the street.

Leaning against it was Adrian.

He wasn’t holding flowers.

He wasn’t smiling.

He simply stood there, hands in his pockets, waiting.

Chris followed Vivian outside.

He glanced at Adrian before looking at her.

“Should I tell him you’re busy?”

Vivian shook her head.

“No.”

“I’ll handle it.”

Chris nodded and headed toward his own car.

Vivian walked over to Adrian.

“What are you doing here?”

“I came to pick you up.”

“I brought my own car.”

“I know.”

“So why are you here?”

Adrian smiled faintly.

“Because I wanted to see you.”

Vivian looked at him for a long moment.

“You’ve seen me.”

She turned to leave.

“Vivian.”

She stopped but didn’t turn around.

“I know you don’t want flowers.”

“I know you don’t want expensive gifts.”

“I know an apology isn’t enough.”

She remained silent.

“So I’m not here to ask for forgiveness today.”

That caught her attention.

She slowly turned back.

“I’m here because it’s raining.”

“You forgot your umbrella this morning.”

Vivian blinked.

She had.

Adrian opened the passenger door of his car.

“I brought one.”

“If you’d rather drive yourself, that’s fine.”

“But at least take the umbrella.”

He reached into the back seat and held it out.

It was the same navy-blue umbrella she had bought years ago.

The one she’d thought she’d lost.

“You kept it?”

“You said it was your favorite.”

Vivian stared at the umbrella.

She couldn’t remember telling him that.

Or perhaps...

She’d assumed he never listened.

Quietly, she accepted it.

“Thank you.”

It was the first genuine “thank you” she had given him in days.

Adrian didn’t push his luck.

“I’ll see you at home.”

He closed the car door, got into the driver’s seat, and drove away.

Vivian stood under the entrance, watching the taillights disappear into the rain.

She looked down at the umbrella in her hands.

It wasn’t a grand gesture.

It was something small.

Something thoughtful.

For reasons she couldn’t explain...

It lingered in her mind all the way home.

Later that evening...

Vivian walked into the house.

The dining table was already set.

Two plates.

Two bowls of hot soup.

Adrian emerged from the kitchen wearing a simple apron.

He looked slightly embarrassed.

“I ... tried cooking.”

Vivian raised an eyebrow.

“You?”

“I watched three cooking videos.”

A faint smell of burnt garlic drifted from the kitchen.

Vivian couldn’t help it.

For the first time in weeks...

A tiny laugh escaped her lips.

Adrian froze.

He hadn’t heard her laugh in what felt like forever.

The sound lasted only a second.

But to him...

It felt like hope.

Vivian looked at the dining table.

Two bowls of soup.

Grilled chicken.

Rice.

And vegetables that looked ... slightly overcooked.

She looked back at Adrian.

“You made all this?”

Adrian rubbed the back of his neck.

“I tried.”

“I won’t promise it’ll taste good.”

Vivian walked to the table and pulled out a chair.

“I already ate at work.”

Adrian’s shoulders dropped almost imperceptibly.

“Oh.”

He forced a smile.

“That’s okay.”
