The conference room of L&B Interior Studio was silent.
No whispers.
No shuffling of papers.
No one dared to speak.
Vivian sat at one end of the polished table, her posture straight, her expression composed. Anyone looking at her would think she was calm.
Only she knew how tightly her hands were clasped beneath the table.
Across from her sat Ethan Cole.
The confidence he had worn the previous day was still there, though it looked slightly forced.
Beside him sat his lawyer.
At the head of the table, Lena Brooks looked around the room before speaking.
“Thank you all for coming.”
She paused briefly.
“As everyone knows, the allegation made against Miss Vivian has seriously affected both her reputation and the reputation of L&B Interior Studio.”
Her gaze swept across the room.
“Today, we’ll hear the findings of the independent investigation.”
The conference room door opened.
Three investigators entered, each carrying thick files.
Everyone immediately fell silent.
The lead investigator placed the documents on the table.
“Good morning.”
“We’ve completed our preliminary investigation.”
He adjusted his glasses before opening the first file.
“We examined every document submitted by both parties.”
He looked toward Mike.
“Mr. Cole provided registered sketches, digital files, and supporting records.”
Then he turned to Vivian.
“Miss Vivian submitted her concept sketches, design revisions, digital project history, email correspondence, and development records.”
He lifted another folder.
“We also conducted interviews with members of the design department at L&B Interior Studio.”
Chris straightened in his chair.
Daniel did the same.
The investigator continued.
“Our forensic team recovered the editing history from Miss Vivian’s workstation.”
He placed several reports on the table.
“The files show a continuous development process, with multiple revisions completed before the exhibition.”
Another investigator added,
“We also confirmed that members of the design department witnessed Miss Vivian creating and refining the project throughout its development.”
Chris nodded.
“Every late night she spent working on that project ... we were there.”
Daniel added quietly,
“She practically lived in the studio.”
Vivian lowered her eyes.
She hadn’t expected them to speak for her.
Lena looked at the investigators.
“So...”
“What is your conclusion?”
The room became so quiet that even the ticking wall clock sounded loud.
The lead investigator closed the final file.
“Our conclusion is clear.”
“There is no evidence that Miss Vivian plagiarized Mr. Cole’s work.”
Relief washed over the room.
Chris smiled.
Daniel quietly let out the breath he’d been holding.
Lena closed her eyes for a brief moment before smiling proudly at Vivian.
But the investigator wasn’t finished.
“In addition...”
“We discovered inconsistencies in the documents submitted by Mr. Cole.”
Mike frowned.
“What inconsistencies?”
The investigator slid several printed reports toward him.
“The metadata on your digital files indicates they were altered shortly before the accusation was made.”
Mike immediately shook his head.
“That’s impossible.”
“My files were never altered.”
“Whether you altered them yourself or someone else did remains under investigation.”
The room erupted into whispers.
Vivian looked at Mike carefully.
His confusion didn’t seem fake.
He looked ... genuinely shocked.
A thought crossed her mind.
What if Mike wasn’t the one behind all of this?
What if...
Someone had simply used him?
Lena’s expression hardened.
“Can you identify who manipulated the files?”
The investigator shook his head.
“Not yet.”
“But we can confirm one thing.”
He looked directly at Vivian.
“Miss Vivian’s design is original.”
“The allegation against her has been dismissed.”
For the first time in two days...
Vivian felt the weight on her shoulders begin to lift.
Not because everyone finally believed her.
But because she had never stopped believing in herself.
As the meeting came to an end, phones around the room began vibrating.
