The bedroom was unusually quiet the following morning.
Sunlight filtered through the curtains, painting soft golden lines across the polished wooden floor.
Vivian was already awake.
She lay on her side, staring at the ceiling.
She hadn’t slept much.
Every time she closed her eyes, the images from the charity gala returned.
Adrian.
Sophia.
The flashing cameras.
The smiling reporters.
And those words...
“They look like a married couple.”
She slowly sat up.
Beside her, Adrian was adjusting his tie in front of the mirror.
His expression remained calm, unreadable, as though the previous night had been nothing more than another business event.
He noticed her reflection.
“Morning.”
“Morning.”
“Did you sleep well?”
Vivian looked at him for a second before answering.
“I slept.”
It wasn’t really an answer.
But Adrian didn’t notice.
He picked up his watch from the dresser.
“I’ll be home early tonight.”
Vivian paused.
“Early?”
“I promised.”
He fastened the watch around his wrist.
“I’ve already moved two meetings.”
A small smile touched Vivian’s lips.
It was the first time in weeks he had said something like that.
“I’ll wait for you.”
Adrian nodded once.
Then he left.
The bedroom fell silent again.
Vivian looked at the closed door.
Maybe...
Maybe things could still change.
At L&B Interior Studio...
The atmosphere was as lively as ever.
Chris rolled his chair toward Vivian’s desk.
“You look tired.”
“I stayed up reading.”
“Liar.”
Vivian laughed softly.
“Was it that obvious?”
“Your coffee answered before you did.”
He pointed at the second cup already sitting beside her keyboard.
“You’ve had two already.”
Daniel walked over carrying a folder.
“The hotel committee sent feedback.”
Vivian immediately straightened.
“So?”
“They loved the presentation.”
“But...”
Chris groaned dramatically.
“I hate that word.”
Daniel grinned.
“They want a few adjustments before signing the final agreement.”
Vivian let out a relieved breath.
“I can do that.”
Lena stepped out of her office.
“I knew you’d say that.”
She handed Vivian another file.
“The clients specifically requested you for the revision meeting.”
Chris placed a hand over his heart.
“I’m starting to feel jealous.”
Vivian laughed.
“You’ll survive.”
“Barely.”
The office burst into laughter.
For the next several hours, Vivian completely immersed herself in work.
The sadness from the previous evening slowly faded beneath sketches, measurements, and color palettes.
For a while...
She forgot about the headlines.
Forgot about the rumors.
Forgot about the ache in her chest.
Across the city...
Adrian’s schedule quickly spiraled out of control.
Ethan hurried into his office.
“Sir.”
“The Singapore investors have moved their flight.”
“They’re only available tonight.”
Adrian frowned.
“ ... Tonight?”
“Yes.”
“They’re requesting dinner before they leave.”
He glanced at the calendar.
Tonight.
He had promised Vivian.
His fingers tapped lightly against the desk.
“Can it be postponed?”
“I’m afraid not.”
Silence filled the office.
Finally...
Adrian closed the file in front of him.
“Arrange the dinner.”
Ethan hesitated.
“And ... Mrs. Kingsley?”
Adrian looked at the clock.
“I’ll call her later.”
He believed one phone call would be enough.
After all...
Vivian had always understood.
Or so he thought.
Back at the studio...
Vivian looked at the time.
Six o’clock.
A smile appeared on her face.
She packed her sketches earlier than usual.
Chris looked surprised.
“Leaving already?”
“My husband said he’d be home early.”
Chris smiled.
“Then don’t keep him waiting.”
Vivian nodded happily.
“I won’t.”
As she walked out of the building...
Her phone remained completely silent.
No calls.
No messages.
No explanation.
She didn’t know...
That Adrian had already chosen work once again.
Vivian arrived home just after six-thirty.
The mansion was unusually quiet.
For some reason, that didn’t bother her today.
Instead, she walked upstairs with a lightness in her step she hadn’t felt in weeks.
Adrian had promised.
He said he would be home early.
It wasn’t a grand gesture.
It wasn’t a romantic date.
But to Vivian...
It mattered.
She changed into a simple cream-colored dress and tied her hair into a loose ponytail before walking downstairs.
Mrs. Eleanor looked up from arranging the dining table.
“You look lovely.”
Vivian smiled shyly.
