I can tell already that I’m being shuffled aside so the author can use my voice without my consciousness. Well, as long as these two beauties continue to cuddle with me at night, I’ll suffer the insult.
“They can’t stop me from controlling the company, no matter what kind of shit they pull,” Dora cried. “I have a hundred shares Uncle Bernie gave me on my twenty-first birthday. They were worthless then, but they are enough to give me control until the will is read and I get the rest of them.”
“I’ve got a live offer from my boss of $200,000 for your entire interest in your uncle’s holdings,” Beef said. “That’s more than I can give you, but he’s willing to give you this just because you’re with me.”
“$200,000? What do I need to do?” Dora asked with stars in her eyes. “It’s just a filthy construction company. He can have it.”
“Sign over your holdings and a letter of agreement. He’ll deposit $200k to your account. It’s that easy.”
“I’ll do it. Then I can live a life of luxury and not worry about anything else,” Dora said.
It was clear she had no idea of the value of anything over a few hundred dollars. Beef grinned at her naïveté. The boss would be pleased to get his hands on Davis Construction. It had all the licenses needed to work in this part of the greater metro area. He could expand it with his own workers and drive Miranda K into his pocket.
As for Beef, he’d get a nice bonus from the boss and he could leave the shrewish Dora behind. He had a couple more tricks, though, that would give him the mansion and everything in it.
“Dora, baby, I can make your life better than a mere $200k,” he said. “Marry me and I’ll move all my personal assets into a joint account. We can cut the tax burden in half by teaming up together.”
“You’re so good to me, Beef.”
Dora had no further interest in the muscleman. And she still had a bone to pick with him. Cal was supposed to be dead, not disappeared. Right now, there was still the possibility that Bernie’s will might mention Cal and then it would be tied up in probate for months until he was finally declared dead. Even then, she’d have to wait for his will to be read before she could claim all his portion of the assets. For now, it was better to play along with Beef and get him to keep supporting her. She’d get rid of him later.
“You want Miranda K. I’ve still got twenty-four percent of the company. The company is worth $200 million. I’ll give you the whole of my share of the company for $50 million cash. They’ve got a fucking FinCEN agent investigating me. I need to get out of town now,” Marcus said when he met with Rex.
“Twenty-four percent isn’t control,” Rex said. “I’ll give you $10 million. You need to get out of town. Go!”
“There’s more. You’ve got Davis Construction in your pocket now, but that stupid twat of a niece doesn’t know half of it. Bernie Davis owned another twenty-four percent. You should be able to get it from her for next to nothing. Certainly, that info is worth something, isn’t it?” Marcus insisted.
He’d just given up the information without an agreement. He was just too desperate right now to care any longer. Agent Jordan Grant had been on his tail for over a week now and once Anya gave him full access to the company books, Marcus would be through. He already had his ticket for the Cayman Islands.
“That’s still only forty-eight percent. It’s good, but not a majority,” Rex said. “You’ve been a good boy, though. I’ll raise my offer to twelve million. Don’t push your luck.”
“I’ll take it. Transfer it in crypto to my account and I’ll give you one more bit that will help you acquire the rest of Miranda K.”
Rex turned to his computer and made the massive transfer in crypto currency to Marcus as Marcus signed the transfer agreement for his shares of Miranda K. They were worthless to him now.
“What’s your last bit of information?” Rex demanded.
“After you got rid of that Cal Levin, Anya brought in another CPA who picked up right where he left off. I thought you had the computer with his audit on it,” Marcus said.
“There was nothing on that computer related to Miranda K. Not even anything worth cashing in.”
“Well, she brought in this CPA named Neil Levinson. He’s sharp. I have no doubt she’ll use him to manage the company finances when I’m out of here. If you get control of him, you’ll have control of all the Kendalls’ shares as well,” Marcus said.
Rex sat back and grinned. Hmm. That was an easy task.
Marcus left and Rex looked at the agreement signed by Dora. Stupid bitch. He’d carefully phrased it so he could take control of all Bernie Davis’s holdings. Now he had an agreement for all Bernie Davis’s stocks and securities.
He made a phone call.
“I have a job for you.”
Beef finished the call from the boss and stopped to think. This was puzzling. The name Neil Levinson sounded familiar to him. That was the name of his favorite target when he was a kid. Yeah. The last he heard, Neil Levinson was in a diabetic coma and expected not to live. This couldn’t be the same guy, right?
Simon had hated Neil from the first time he saw him dressed in an actual T-ball uniform. Neil always had nice things. Not the showy things of the rich kids, but good things given to him by parents who loved him. Simon dressed in clothes handed down from four older brothers who treated him like shit. They beat him until one day they discovered they couldn’t beat him any longer. He’d grown bigger than any of his older brothers and he used the bat he’d stolen from Neil to ‘discipline’ them.
That was the secret of life. Be the biggest and meanest of all. In eighth grade shop class, he’d filled that T-ball bat with a steel rod. It was three times as heavy and almost indestructible now. When he wanted someone’s bone broken, he broke it. Including his brothers. They’d all paid for their abuse of him and two of them were still members of his Wrecking Crew. They set a good example for the rest of the crew and always called him sir. The other two brothers had left for the West Coast as soon as they were sixteen. One went with a broken arm. The other was an idiot who couldn’t even spell his name.
When Neil was a vegetable, Simon decided he deserved his enemy’s girlfriend and set about convincing her. Once she was pregnant, she settled in nice and obediently. After the second kid, she’d become too bossy. There were all kinds of laws about wife abuse and she threatened to call the police if he dared to touch her again. He left and moved to Lewisburg. He’d found Rex Laughlin who needed an enforcer and having an entire five-man gang at his disposal worked in both their favor.
It made no real difference to Beef what Rex wanted done. He’d killed people before and never been caught. His crew were experienced and dedicated. They had plenty of booze and women, and lived in a decent place. Beef would move them all to the mansion soon. It was time to let Dora know who she belonged to.
So, the boss wanted this Neil Levinson kidnapped and held for ransom. Weird. It couldn’t be the Neil Levinson he knew. Who would ransom that loser, even if he was alive? It all had to do with the takeover of Miranda K Development. Rex needed the licenses that company held so he could do work in Cedar Park. The City had blocked his attempts to get his own licenses because he didn’t really have a presence in this part of the Metro Area. Levinson was a pet of the CEO. She’d pay.
