Peachtree General Hosptial: Wednesday 12:00 PM

Naomi strode purposefully along the corridor until she arrived at Stephen’s hospital room. She paused briefly in the doorway, a faint, satisfied smile playing on her lips as she observed Stephen resting in bed, his gaze turned toward Chanelle while they exchanged soft laughter. After a moment, Naomi stepped inside just as both Stephen and Chanelle noticed her arrival and turned their attention toward her.

“Ma’am?” Stephen acknowledged as Naomi approached, his tone carrying a thread of formality. “How are you, Stephen?” she inquired gently as he offered a nod. “I’m recovering well, thank you,” he replied softly. Naomi reached out and clasped his hand firmly in hers. “You had everyone quite worried,” she remarked, her gaze warm yet sincere. Stephen managed a faint smile. “Thank you both for coming,” he expressed with genuine appreciation. Naomi returned the smile, then shifted her attention to Chanelle with an approving nod. “You truly have someone special here, Stephen—Chanelle stayed right by your side,” she commented as he glanced affectionately at Chanelle. “I know,” he affirmed quietly, the simple statement imbued with heartfelt gratitude and reassurance.

Chanelle rose gracefully from her seat. “Ma’am, may I offer you coffee? I’m fetching a cup for myself.” Naomi inclined her head in agreement. “That would be nice.” With a fleeting smile toward Stephen, Chanelle exited the room. Naomi settled into the vacant chair, her expression softening as she regarded Stephen warmly.

Stephen mentioned hearing how much had occurred while he’d been unconscious. Naomi confirmed this with a slight nod, adding, “It’s been crazy.” She continued, “I look forward to having you back on your feet—I’ve missed having you drive me around.” Stephen let out a light chuckle at her remark. “I’ll reach out as soon as I’m able to return to work,” he assured her. Naomi smiled warmly in response.

“Do you remember what happened?” Naomi probed gently. Stephen let out a weary sigh and replied, “They wore masks; I recall being kicked repeatedly, After that, nothing.”

Chanelle returned bearing two steaming cups, extending one to Naomi who accepted with a polite murmur. She lingered near the doorway, blowing softly on her coffee as her gaze drifted between Stephen and Naomi. A quiet stillness settled over the room, heavy with unspoken words.

Raw Couture: Lobby 14:00 PM

James positioned himself behind the receptionist counter, leaning in close enough to make Tiffany blush. His lips brushed near her ear as he murmured unabashedly, “I luuuv curvy women.” She tilted her head slightly, a coy smile playing on her lips. “Do you now, sir?” she replied, her voice betraying a flush of excitement at his attention.

James draped his arm along the back of her chair, fingertips grazing her spine in slow circles. Tiffany arched a brow, her pulse quickening as she countered with playful caution, “This might be a little inappropriate, sir?” Her voice wavered, betraying the thrill of his boldness. James leaned closer, his tone low and possessive. “I own this place—nothing is inappropriate here.”

Tiffany froze as Naomi and Chanelle entered the lobby, her body tensing at their sudden presence. James turned sharply, his jaw tightening with annoyance upon seeing Naomi. The two women paused just before the reception desk, Naomi’s irritated gaze shifting between James and Tiffany.

Chanelle’s gaze sharpened as Tiffany offered a smirk laced with condescension, her expression barely masking the competitive edge beneath its polished veneer.

James shot a smug smirk toward Chanelle and drawled, “Yo, how your snow bunny doing?” Tiffany quickly covered her mouth, stifling a giggle.

Naomi interjected sharply, her tone leaving no room for refusal. “James, I need you in my office,” she commanded. James dismissed her with a wave of his hand, his attention fixed on Tiffany as he retorted, “I’m busy?” His lingering stare remained locked on the receptionist.

Naomi delivered her reply with cool composure, stating plainly, “Not anymore you’re not.” She pivoted away and strode toward the elevator, pausing only to issue a sharp command over her shoulder. Chanelle’s eyebrow lifted pointedly in Tiffany’s direction, her silent rebuke aimed squarely at the younger receptionist’s disdainful expression.

As James rose reluctantly, he slid the swivel chair toward Chanelle. “Here you go, miss,” he offered casually, motioning for her to take the seat. Chanelle eyed him warily as she stepped carefully around the counter and settled into the chair. James lingered behind her, nudging the chair inward slightly before leaning in close to her ear. Her pulse quickened involuntarily at his nearness.

“Don’t get too comfortable now,” he murmured, his breath hot against her ear. Chanelle’s gaze dropped instinctively, her fingers tightening on the armrest as a faint tremor moved through her. James drew back, a knowing smirk playing on his lips before he turned and strolled toward the elevator.

Tiffany’s eyes locked onto Chanelle with an unwavering, vacant stare. Chanelle turned, her voice sharp with irritation. “What?” Tiffany spun away, sucking her teeth audibly before snapping back, “Girl! You’re rude.”

Naomi’s Office: 14:15 PM

James settled into the chair opposite Naomi, his restless leg bouncing over his knee as he stared absently out the window. Naomi kept her focus fixed on her computer screen, pointedly disregarding his indifference. Finally, James broke the silence with a sharp, “Well? What the fuck did you want?” Naomi glanced up slowly, offering only a nonchalant “Hmm?” Her vague response deepened his irritation; he narrowed his eyes as she waved him away with a dismissive, “Oh, nothing, you may go.”

James let out a bitter laugh as he shook his head, rising from the chair and turning to leave. Naomi’s voice cut through the air, sharp and accusing. “I know it was you, James.” He froze mid-step, pivoting back to face her with a sneer. “What?” he challenged. Naomi leaned forward, her eyes narrowing with conviction. “I know you sent those men after Stephen,” she hissed. “Consider yourself fortunate he survived; otherwise, you’d be facing murder charges rather than attempted murder.”

“Wasn’t me,” James replied with a smirk, though his bravado faltered as Naomi continued. “They caught the men who attacked him,” she stated matter-of-factly. “We intercepted them before the police could.” Leaning forward, Naomi fixed him with a piercing stare. “And they weren’t very loyal to you. They told us everything.”

“You have nothing on me,” James declared defiantly. Naomi responded with a knowing smile and countered, “You understand the terms governing your company shares, correct?” Her gaze remained steady as she continued, “Shareholders lose everything if they commit crimes—and all I need to do is reveal what happened and you’d be fucked.” Enraged by her threat, James lurched forward, slamming his hands onto the desk. Undeterred, Naomi held her ground without so much as a flinch.

His voice dripped with venom as he snarled, “This was your plan all along, wasn’t it? Trying to remove me from the company. But you have no idea who you’re fucking with.” Naomi rose slowly from her seat, her composure unwavering. “Actually,” she corrected coolly, “this wasn’t part of my original plan. However, it certainly works in my favor. I don’t want your black ass in my company—so if you wish to remain, you better back the fuck down.” She paused deliberately before adding, “The next time you try and intimidate me, remember this: I’ve got you by the balls.”

James’ Office: 3:00 PM

“N***, you don’t pay me enough to do that shit,” the voice crackled over the line. James shot back impatiently, “What’s the fuckin’ big deal, n***? Just follow Naomi—keep tabs on her. You’ll get your cut. Quit your whinin’ and just handle it.”

James leaned over his desk, the crisp hundred-dollar bill rolled tightly between his fingers. He snorted the line of cocaine with practiced ease just as a knock echoed through the office. “Yeah, what?” he barked without looking up. Evelyn entered, her eyes widening at the scene before her. “James!” she gasped, her voice laced with shock. He merely shrugged, dismissing her reaction with a casual, “It’s just you,” before she marched over and swiped the makeshift straw from his grip.

James glared at his mother, irritation flashing across his face. “You need to get help,” she snapped, her tone sharp with disapproval. He waved her concern away with a dismissive flick of his wrist. “I’m fine,” he insisted, though the slight tremor in his voice betrayed him. Evelyn’s expression hardened as she delivered the news. “Naomi will be organizing mandatory drug tests for everyone at the company next week.” James met her gaze unflinchingly, a defiant smirk tugging at his lips. “So what? I won’t be there that day.” Evelyn sighed wearily, shaking her head as exhaustion settled over her like a heavy cloak.

“I can’t keep this up James,” she murmured, sinking into the chair across from him. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears as her voice thickened with emotion. “You’re losing everything and you can’t even see it.” James offered a nonchalant reply. “Don’t worry, Ma, I’ve got a plan.” Evelyn turned her head away, her expression a mixture of despair and resignation as she silently acknowledged the depth of his denial.

8:00 PM

DeShawn maintained his position several vehicles behind Naomi’s mercedes, her driver navigating through the downtown traffic. “Fucking James,” he muttered under his breath, frustration coloring his tone as he wondered aloud what exactly he was supposed to discover. With a sigh, he continued following, keeping a watchful eye on the sedan ahead. To his surprise, Naomi’s vehicle suddenly halted mid-block after turning left onto a quieter street. DeShawn instinctively slowed his own car just in time, coming to a stop only meters away from her now-stationary vehicle. “Shit,” he cursed softly, assessing the unexpected situation unfolding before him.

He observed with rapt attention, his brow furrowing as Naomi’s Mercedes remained motionless. “What the fuck is she doing?” he grumbled under his breath, utterly perplexed by her sudden stop. At that very moment, another vehicle pulled up silently behind him, its presence unnoticed.

The side door of DeShawn’s vehicle was suddenly flung open. Before he could react, the cold barrel of a gun pressed against his temple. His eyes flew wide with alarm as adrenaline surged through his veins. “Woah man, what the fuck?” he exclaimed, his voice laced with shock and disbelief. A gruff command followed: “Out of the car.” DeShawn hesitated only briefly before complying. “Alright, alright,” he muttered as he exited the vehicle. The assailant shoved him roughly against the car’s exterior, the metal biting into his flesh as the weapon dug into the back of his head. DeShawn felt calloused hands rummaging through his pockets.

The assailant yanked DeShawn’s wallet free and examined it. “DeShawn Williams,” he stated coldly. Naomi’s Mercedes roared to life, tires screeching as it vanished around the corner. DeShawn let out a weary sigh. “Look man, I’m broke, I don’t have shit,” he said, his voice strained with desperation. The gunman pressed harder against his skull before demanding, “Why were you following that car?” DeShawn’s eyes widened as realization dawned on him; he stammered, “Uhh ... I was just...” His words cut short as the pistol’s grip struck him sharply across the head. Pain exploded through his skull as he collapsed onto the pavement with a pained cry of “Fuck man!” The attacker crouched down beside him, weapon aimed squarely at his face. “Who hired you?” he asked menacingly. Through gritted teeth and searing pain, DeShawn spat out, “Fucking James, her brother!”

The assailant slipped DeShawn’s wallet into his coat pocket, rose calmly, and strode back to his vehicle. The engine revved sharply before speeding off into the night, leaving DeShawn trembling and nursing his injuries. “Fuck this shit!” he cursed as he dragged himself back into his car.

Naomi sat in her car as her phone vibrated. She answered the call and a voice declared, “It was your brother.” Naomi shook her head disapprovingly. “Kind of sloppy, wasn’t it?” she remarked. The caller confirmed, “Absolutely, he had no idea what he was doing.” Naomi smiled faintly before ending the call.

Naomi released a slow breath as the danger subsided. From the front seat, her driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “You alright, ma’am?” Naomi’s gaze drifted toward the passing city lights outside the window. A small smile played at her lips. “Everything is perfect,” she replied smoothly. The driver let out a quiet chuckle, nodding in understanding.

The vibration of her phone sliced through the silence. Glancing at the caller ID, Naomi saw Kiara’s name flash across the screen. With a touch of confusion, she lifted the device to her ear. “Kiara?” she answered, her tone guarded. The line crackled to life as Kiara’s voice came through—playful yet edged with reproach. “Hey stranger,” she began, “did you forget about me? You think you can come by unannounced one evening, cry your eyes out, and never call again?” Naomi’s brow furrowed slightly as she listened. A soft sigh escaped her lips before she murmured, “I’m sorry, Kiara ... so much has happened.”

Naomi’s expression shifted. “The baby?” she asked, her voice tinged with sudden awareness. Kiara chuckled softly. “Still pregnant, little Nathan doesn’t seem to want to come out, it should be any day now.” Naomi’s lips curved into a warm smile. “Let me know the moment you need help,” she offered, “I’ll arrange for someone to take you to our hospital—I don’t want to miss it.” Kiara responded appreciatively, “That would be wonderful, thank you. I’ll definitely keep that in mind.”

Peachtree General Hospital: 9:00 PM

Stephen stood between the parallel bars, his hospital gown hanging loosely around him. Each labored breath shook his frame as he struggled to maintain balance, arms trembling under the effort. A nurse hovered on one side while Chanelle gently supported his left arm. With deliberate care, he shifted his foot forward, a sharp wince contorting his face. “This is painful,” he muttered through clenched teeth. Chanelle met his pained expression with an encouraging smile. “You’re doing great,” she assured him softly.

After completing his arduous walk to the far end of the parallel bars, the nurse offered a reassuring nod. “Excellent progress today—we’ll make this part of your daily routine,” she said, her voice steady and encouraging. Stephen managed a faint nod in reply. With careful coordination, Chanelle and the nurse eased him back onto the crisp hospital sheets. Chanelle leaned close, ensuring his head rested comfortably against the pillow, her warm smile lingering as she gently brushed a stray lock of hair from his forehead before softly pressing her lips to his.

Her eyes twinkling with playful intent, Chanelle leaned close and whispered, “You better get well soon.” Stephen’s eyebrows lifted slightly as he murmured, “Oh?” A sly smile tugged at her lips as she added, “I’m getting kind of lonely in bed.” His gaze locked onto hers, widening. “Call the nurse, I’m ready to try again.” A soft chuckle escaped her in response.

Sinclair Mercy Hospital: Friday 5:00 PM

Naomi charged into the hospital entrance, her chest heaving with urgency. Behind the counter, a nurse flinched as Naomi demanded in a strained voice, “Where is she?” The nurse quickly replied, “Ward seven, ma’am,” her tone measured despite Naomi’s intensity. Naomi wasted no time; she hurried along the corridors, glancing rapidly through each ward until she reached Ward Seven. There she halted abruptly at the doorway. Inside, Kiara sat propped up on the hospital bed with little baby Nathan nestled in her arms, humming a soft lullaby.

Naomi’s eyes brimmed with tears as the rhythmic click of her heels announced her presence. Kiara glanced up, a gentle smile spreading across her face as Naomi approached slowly. Drawing near enough to gaze upon the infant’s delicate features cradled in Kiara’s arms, Naomi whispered, “He’s gorgeous.” A single tear traced a path down Kiara’s cheek as she nodded softly. “He’s perfect,” she murmured in reply.

Kiara turned to Naomi, her voice barely audible as she whispered, “Thank you.” Naomi dismissed the gratitude with a flick of her wrist. “Forget it,” she murmured, softening her usual commanding tone. Kiara offered a tender smile and asked gently, “Do you want to hold him?” At the suggestion, Naomi tensed visibly. Hesitation wavered in her voice as she stammered, “I ... don’t know...” Kiara’s expression warmed with encouragement as she introduced the infant. “Hey Nathan,” she cooed, “this is your Auntie Naomi.” With deliberate care, Naomi accepted the baby into her arms. Cradling him with newfound tenderness, she marveled at his tiny features contorted in slight discomfort—a soft whimper escaping his lips. Awe filled her words as she whispered, “Ohh, he’s beautiful.” Gazing down at him, she added softly, “Hi Nathan, welcome to the world.”

Kiara’s tears began to flow freely as she whispered, “I wish his father could be here to see him.” Naomi turned toward her, offering softly, “I’m sure he’s looking down on us.” Kiara let out a sudden laugh, remarking playfully, “What a cheesy thing to say,” before Naomi joined in with a chuckle, admitting, “I didn’t know what else to tell you.”

Naomi’s House: Saturday 8:00 PM

As the final members of the cleaning crew departed Naomi’s residence, she poured a generous measure of wine into a crystal glass. Settling onto her plush sofa, she opened her novel with practiced ease. A faint sigh escaped her lips as she immersed herself in the narrative, her gaze tracing each word with quiet concentration.

His gaze drifted slowly over her figure, igniting warmth in her cheeks. She swallowed thickly, a torrent of thoughts flooding her mind. Why am I feeling like this? she wondered, torn between desire and guilt. He wasn’t typically her type—white, his lineage likely steeped in the oppressive history of slavery—but her pulse quickened as he drew nearer. Closing the distance between them, he claimed her mouth with a fervent kiss that set every nerve ablaze.

Naomi inhaled sharply as her breath grew rapid and shallow, her chest rising with each hurried gasp while her eyes remained fixed on the page.

Just as Naomi settled into the story, her phone vibrated sharply on the coffee table. Startled from her reverie, she glanced down and saw Mike’s number flashing across the screen. Pressing the accept button, she answered with a taut, “Mike? What’s wrong?” Her voice carried an edge of alarm. The guard’s reply came swiftly. “Your father is here, ma’am—he’s waiting at the gate.” A wave of unease washed over Naomi; she felt her breath catch in her throat as tension tightened her shoulders. “What does he want?” she demanded, her tone sharpened by suspicion. Mike hesitated briefly before responding, “I don’t know, ma’am. You instructed me not to allow anyone inside without your permission—shall I turn him away?”

Naomi gave a curt shake of her head. “No, let him in,” she ordered, adding sharply, “but stay close to the house.” The guard’s crisp response came without delay: “Very well, ma’am.” With that, the call disconnected. Setting aside her novel, Naomi listened intently as the crunch of gravel beneath tires announced Damien’s arrival. Soon after, deliberate footsteps approached the entrance.

Damien entered the house as Naomi gestured for him to come in. He strode silently into the expansive living room, his features set in a stony mask that betrayed no emotion. Without uttering a word, he crossed the space until his gaze fell upon the worn novel resting on the table. Naomi watched warily as he lifted the book, examining its cover and spine with deliberate attention before setting it back down.

Turning to face her, Damien stated flatly, “Daryl’s dead.” Naomi gave a curt nod. “I heard,” she replied. Damien drew a slow breath before releasing it gradually; his shoulders sagged slightly as he stood motionless in his overcoat.
